Not as high as was previously thought. But still highest of all the 3 consoles.

:? It's under 1/4, almost to 1/5 That's more than a LITTLE under 1/3so 4 years later they got it to a little bit under one third of consoles failing....great job microsoft. not.

While I could have said a quarter I didnt. You're right. Regardless 10% less than a third isnt that much when you have over 30 million units out there...thats only a 3 million unit discrepancy from what I said.

whatever makes you feel better about the fact that atleast 15 million 360's sold to date have failed. I cant believe people defend Microsoft's design issues. If this was a baby crib, a car, a refrigerator or anything of the sort people would return it and buy some other brand. Fanboy loyalty is amazing in the video game world.

by every percentage you mean one game informer poll that required no proof of ownership of a 360 or even asking what chipset the 360 contained?whatever makes you feel better about the fact that atleast 15 million 360's sold to date have failed. But the Xbox 360 isn't any of those things. It's an entertainment machine. If it breaks down it is not going to affect your baby's welfare or your own life. It is going to keep you from playing video games on it for a couple of weeks. I agree that the problem shouldn't be there to begin with but it's not a big deal and certainly not the end of the world like some make it out to be.
microsoft already didnt deny 54%. thats closer to the truth then this.sexxxyboySquare Trade did their own study. Game Informer polled 5,000 of their readers. Who's to know if half of those people weren't cows that have never owned a 360? And yet, you're still saying that GI's poll is more reliable than Square Trade's study? Wow...just....Wow..
[QUOTE="PAL360"]
Well, its lower than the 33% of first years and FAR lower than the 45% cows have been claiming all the time.
stvee101
Sorry but people can spin this all they want(and they will)
But 4 years on, almost 1 in every 4 360s fail.Thats indefensible. :?
the study was for the first two years of all consolesThere's a caveat: SquareTrade says it believes Microsoft's warranty policy (an excellent, commendably responsible policy, in my opinion) "may result in an underreporting of failures by Xbox 360 owners to SquareTrade, relative to the other consoles." Because the RROD problem is so widely known to be covered by Microsoft's warranty, we believe that more customers bypass SquareTrade and reported failures directly to the Microsoft. In a survey of SquareTrade customers with Xbox 360s conducted by email, SquareTrade found that over half of our customers who experienced a RROD error reported their problem directly to Microsoft without contacting SquareTrade. Email survey respondents tend to be a self-selecting group, so the data should be used directionally rather than definitively, particularly because we did not survey PS3 and Wii owners with the same question. With that caveat in mind, applying the survey data to the analysis shows that the Xbox 360 failure rate could be as high as 35%.
Good thing you guys read the whole article. Again...my 1/3 looks good now doesnt it Jandurin ;) Topic closed.

the study was for the first two years of all consolesFair enough.
But it also says "RROD appears to (finally) be in decline in 2009".
Yep it only took them 4 years(and counting) to remedy this fundamental design defect in their consoles..Nice job MS.

RROD was one of the main reasons I decided against buying a 360 and opting for a gaming PC.
I mean its a superb console imo, still has the best software library of any console this gen and gets superior multiplats 90% of the time.
But yeah,RROD was a real deal-breaker for me.

yeah... that I have to agree with[QUOTE="Floppy_Jim"]That's nearly 8 million failed 360's.mitu123I'm part of that too, mine broke twice. Three for me :x
That's nothing to brag about, but at least it's an improvement. I still refuse to buy a 360 because of Microsoft's business practices though.
and that the ps3 failure rate has seemingly gone from .1% to 10% :)Scroll up to the piece of the article I pasted guys. It tells the rest of the story here and that this 23.7% failure rate number they have is admittedly bogus

I knew cows in this thread response would be "Screw that! I'm gonna believe GI 5000 responders over a study done by the largest independent warranty provider in the world. System Wars...if this is any indication of the world then we are all in trouble.

The plot thickens. :P
Either way,the failure rate is totally unacceptable imo.
Even hardcore lems have to agree with me on that one.
[QUOTE="mitu123"][QUOTE="Floppy_Jim"]That's nearly 8 million failed 360's.Floppy_JimI'm part of that too, mine broke twice. Three for me :x so mitu has gone thru 2 systems and is on his 3rd. so basically he has had a 67% failure rate personally. and floppy im assuming your at 75% so far? i can only imagine the masses.
[QUOTE="mitu123"][QUOTE="Floppy_Jim"]That's nearly 8 million failed 360's.Floppy_JimI'm part of that too, mine broke twice. Three for me :x The hell, that sucks man. Well, my third one has lasted for 10 months and no RROD yet, 2 month and it'll be the 1st one to last 1 year.
Regardless of what any study says, the bottom line is the 360 failure rate is horrible, we all know it.
Actually don't care. I bought it to play games. It was reliable enough for 2 yrs. Then it got sent for repair and has continued to play my games without any further issues. As long as it continues to play my games, I'm happy.http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-13078-Rochester-Xbox-360-Examiner~y2009m9d2-Study-shows-360-actually-fails-237-percent-of-the-time

According to the PDF, the failure rate would actually be somewhere between 24.7% and 35% as a certain amount of people are expected to forgo their warranty and instead send it in to Microsoft. And this would be within two years of the date of purchase.http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-13078-Rochester-Xbox-360-Examiner~y2009m9d2-Study-shows-360-actually-fails-237-percent-of-the-time

Nah it was more to do with MS knowingly releasing a console with a fundamental design defect ,and the widespread failure of said console as a result that swayed it for me. ;)
