I made already made a thread on this but this is the reason why MS reduced shipments for their first quater. They are clearing out the channel for the new 360.

I was hoping they would actually lower the price, not raise it; I suppose i'll have to wait even longer to purchase a 360. :(
I read that Zephyr is the codename for the 65nm Xenon, not a new 360... But I hope that I'm wrong. I would love to see new 360 owners get a bigger harddrive and HDMI...
im preety sure EB games / Gamespot and 90 of retaielrs have been claiming this is fake ..
 and if its real i think personally it could hurt 360 more then help it -- $479 is ALOT of money pay for a system which has been $399 since launch ....
has microsoft learned nothing? People dont want to pay more for a system. If they want their system to be the next ps2 they have to lower the price not raise it, people will look at the 400$ or if they lower it 300$ as the tard pack, this is a stupid move by ms if true

It pisses me off that I bought a 360 a couple months ago, now I'm missing out on a harddrive thats 6 times bigger and an HDMI port... Atleast what sony added to the slim PS2 wasnt as dramatic as these xbox changes. Pro-Scan support of 480p when no games supported it? Who cared. But HDMI is a big thing and especially that harddrive.

If they have this new 360 at around 500 nad the old one at 300, the 300 dollar one will be seen as the tard pack, and microsoft will have gone nowhere

 It plays the same games. It's an upgrade from the original but is the same console. It plays no games the original 360 can't, has no other disc format, and it's just a newer version of the same console.
It just seems like they're playing catch up now to the PS3 and throwing in features that will make the console comparable to Sony's.

Its not a smart move. I think it is a way of saying "we should've included it" without actually saying it. Kind of like how Sony was talking to SplitFish about rumble.
Absolutely stupid. This is the only time in history where a consoles price has gone UP instead of down. The dual SKUs was confusing to begin with...are they going to have 3 now? Geez, that's not going to confuse customers. If MS had been smart, they would've either just slashed the price of the 360 in general, or up the size of the HDD and keep the prices as they are now. It's almost as if Microsoft WANTS to fail.

Of course they will but then consumers will have to ponder why there's a more expensive, seemingly improved version. When I purchase something, I don't like to harbor a regret that I could've bought the better version.

You're not the only one. There's a reason the premium 360 and the 60gb PS3 sell better than their weaker versions.
It's not in our systems at eb. So i'm not sure about it yet. I already have a 360 but I would pick it up just for the larger hard drive space and all the other extras.

If their going to make an improved version of the 360 like the one described, with a big ass HDD and HDMI, it might as well have a built-in HD-DVD drive that supports games. That one more thing would make it an MS clone of the PS3. If I didn't already have a PS3, that would sound very appealing. On a side note, I think the new 360 should have a dark green exterior. That would look cool.

Damn! I just got my 360 core system last night. Should have waited. I would like to use HDMI instead of VGA because I dont like using that mini plug converter for audio.

Sony releases new Playstations too. It's nothing new. The PS2 slimline had more features than the first PS2.The slimline was 4 years after the original PS2, and all it had was an ethernet port, and it was smaller:| This new 360 is a different colour, has HDMI, MUCH bigger HD, and maybe more? This sucks to be a 360 owner right now:(
