I think on the next gen consoles all the games are gonna release digitally on launch day too. So im gonna go digital only. I dont see a point in me buying physical copies. Xbox 360 is already much ahead of what ps3 has when it comes to buying retail games. So next gen im going with the xbox 360 successor. My physical games look old watching them degrade as time goes on. My digital games will always look brand new. Plus I like how the game box art looks on digital games better.

Next gen are you going digital only?

If there are one-time use serial keys and giant hdds, maybe. I hope that's not the case though.

I'm scared about losing my games because of hardware failure. I hate making backups and it's just a waste of time. I still want physical copies so I can collect and not worry about losing them.

This.

Its logical to have physical copies. Not much use in downloading your gamesand losing them all if something happens to the hardware. If you have physical copies, you can get your games back on your hardwareinstead of re-buying AND downloading them all over again.

You wont lose your games because of hardware failure. You always got your online profile with your games on it.

I only, ONLY buy games physically unless they're only digital releases.

Same goes for music and movies. CD's and DvD's for me.

But that's not the case with psn and live is it? I think on steam it works out though. I don't really know because I never had a problem yet.

Of course that's the case with Live and PSN. I don't know much about Live, but I am quite positive the games are attached to your profile. On PSN, you can actually d/l the game to 5 different machines that have your profile on it. Of course, if your system dies and you've disbersed all your d/l's amongst friends, it can be a pain to de-register the system that died.

This. Not only that, but there is just something gratifying about going to your favorite game store and purchasing a physical copy of the game. Even buying online is more fun than simply downloading games.

I would rather have physical copies because I like to be able to collect my games and have a physical library that I can see and feel.

Unless that service goes out of business. Then you could be potentially screwed.

Unless I have no choice I will not buy digitally distributed games. One thing they need to do with digital games is the pricing. At the moment prices for digital games which you can buy as a physical disk such as Mass Effect 2 are ridiculous even though there is no disc, box or manuals.

Im gonna do what Im doing now, I buy whatever is cheaper or better value anyway for example I got the physical premium copy of witcher 2 for £21 :o I didn't even see it that cheap for DD. I don't sell my games on anyway so it really doesn't matter to me, in the last 6 months I would say over 60% of my purchases have been DD. That said I will always prefer a physical copy of my most wanted games (Im getting the Collectors copy of Skyrim with out a doubt).

I like physical 'n all, but I'd rather pay less than just have a box that I wanna look at once. The only physical game I've bought recently was Bayonetta which desperately needs a pc port imo!.. But everything else has been DD from d2d/steam.

Well if you buy ur games on steam which most everyone does, you can just redownload it if you ever loose your copy from hardware failure, its linked to your account you can download it as many times as you want.

Nope, though with my PC picking up most of my gaming I can see using Steam/GOG for more digital titles than ever before. But I still prefer hard copies. Bandwith limitations (250 GB/month) and the time it would take to download a 20 GB+ game will keep it that way for some time to come. Not to mention the rights to loan, trade, or - in unfortunate cases - resell my games that I lose going digital.

Ask me again when/if digital copies become cheap enough compared to their hard copy cousins to justify those limitations and hassles.

This might make space go down in price. To make a time where GBs are like MBs today. But wow you must live in 100x world to see plastic degrading before your eyes. I would rather use the actual space is a problem, like I have to make path ways through my house because I have too many games or my shelf collapsed from the weight of my games.

Yes, it's that way for live. The game is attached to your gamertag so even if your HD fails you can simply re-download it at no cost. This probably sounds stupid, but I like having a physical copy of the game. I like being able to line up the cases and see my entire collection...I can't exactly explain why.

I re-sell pretty much all my games after i'm done with it, how am i suppose to sell them? I don't want it and if ps4 or 720 has it, i won't bother on them.

I'm already in the next gen with my pc and I'm digital only with steam ;)

But then again I cheat with my 3ds because there is no digital only option for that at this point anyways.

Not at all. Steam is good and all, but I still like bringing home a physical copy of my game, tearing the shrink wrapping open, and then gleefully going through the manual and packaging materials. Call me old school, but nothing can beat that feeling.

Propably on PC for the main part, but not on consoles. PC I'll always have but a console I want to be able to sell or switch and get something for the games too. And consoles have generations so you'll never know for sure what will happen, though I do think XBL and PSN are here to stay in one form or another.

I say a generation or 2 later it will be all digital. The few who dont have internet access by then will be living at a house with a 5 mile driveway out in the middle of nowhere.

no. i think i will be getting more games through DD simply because the PC is my main platform and PC retail games here are on the way out. but i will have at least 1 console and 1 handheld also and where possible (even on the PC) i prefer to get the boxed copy.

not really one can get on fine with day to day life without internet. If you really need it theres an abundance of internet cafe's that are dirt cheap tbh..

A lot of people still dont have the internet in built up areas as its not a necessity as you would like to believe, its actually rather easy to live day by day without internet.Tbh i personally think its had an adverse affect people are going out less nowadays cause of it aswell partially due to the rise of online gaming and social networking making it much easier but tbh much more mundane and boring to interact with one another, theres no real spontainity to it.

Haven't bought physical media in a long time actually don't see the point in keeping boxes and other crap around that takes up space. Plus hard drives are getting cheaper and cheaper per byte anymore so if one drive fails, mount it, clone it and put in the new one.
