I want a marvel fighting game so bad, not MVC. A game kinda like injustice... Just marvel -.-
Probably will be the closet thing you'll get to a Just Marvel Fighting game.. from capcom.
I want a fighting game where one critical hit can bring the opponent down. I want a game with no life bars and the main weight should be on evading, parrying and using locks. If there are weapons available I want to see the characters getting wounded and their limbs flying off if enough force is used. I want them to get tired so you can't button smash.
Comprehensive Tutorials with Gamedata right
Tekken Tag 2 has the Fight Lab.
Street Fighter has one hidden away Some where. I think the called it Challenge Mode, doesn't show frames though.
I never Checked for SF x T so....
Dead Or Alive has 2, theres the regular training mode which makes you perfom a characers Entire Movelist on a dummy. And the Campaigning mode is the other tutorial and covers everything not in the Training mode. Plus its also got training wheels, you can view the move list without pausing the game. That way you don't even need to remember combos or train characters at all..
injustice and Mortal Kombat didn't have frame data from what I could tell. But damn its Tutorial is so comprehensive that it borders on Hand Holding.
As for Virtue Fighter, I doubt it. And Naruto is si simple it doesn't need a tutorial. Its so simple they probabably shouldn't have even made it. But its Netcode is definately good.
Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown had really good teaching tools.
Part of the issue with teach tools is that Namco has this weird ass patent shit on how they do teaching tools, and no one is allowed to ape their shit.
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/patented-game-mechanics-that-might-surprise-you/1100-6369027/
So like people can't just ape it. Otherwise everyone probably would have ripped off the Tekken teaching stuff by now.
I'm the 1st one to mention DOA5 ?
Thats dissapointing considering its the best fighting game so far.
Street Fighter is just too unbalanced and seriously... Why can't I side step Hadokens ? Come on Capcom ! Same goes for every 2D and 2.5D fighting game.
Tekken is unnecessarily complicated. Why on earth would I need to press everysingle button just to perform a combo throw ? And notice how you're completely helpless when you're in a combo ? Not cool !
...
loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool
I can't tell if you're joking :/
@ Clock-w0rk
I may have exegerated the part about the Buttons and Rotation thingy. But other than that. I'm dead serious.
The Boob Simulator is miles better. I was skeptical as to how the Rock, Paper, Scissors System was gona work with a fighting game but it doesn't just work. Its what the genre has been desperately missing.
Plus in addition to a damn good fight engine, you get to see chicks Jiggle. Thats Value right there :p
I'm actually interested in the next tekken installment. But it doesn't need 500 characters.. it needs balanced characters that take advantage of environments & counters for all fighting styles. I like the DOA approach but it shouldn't be "easy" to pull off counters. They should be incorporated into certain move sets. This will allow for more complex matches and less "twitch" matches.
who is unbalanced in that game that hasnt been patched?
edit: they nerf every character to death

well perhaps I didn't play the patched version but there were a few.. but that only adds to my point. Why would there be a need for patching if all the characters were balanced from the beginning.
This is a Next Gen Fighting Game.
note, the Sprites are actually 3D models.
I think I almost died laughing when Faust started Kancho-ing the other fighters.
On The Subject of Dead Or Alive being too easy to counter. Well, thats just not true. And only winners say that, you can't just want your opponent to just take your 21 hit combo and not be interupted. You should be able to defend yourself and get out of tough situations and traverse the battle field with ease, which is why I like Characters that can either cover ground quickly (Backwards and Fowards) like Lisa and Ayane or Teleporting Characters like Ryu Hayabusa and that blonde haired black guy in Tekken.
Where was I ? Ah yes. Counter attacking.
Whell heres the Dead Or Alive facts, you Can only counter attack if your feet are still touching the ground. You can't counter attack if your being combo'd from behind or in the air. You also cant counter if you get hit with a critical stun.
Heres the Math for Counter attacks. Theres only three offensive strikes but four types of counters. So thats one advantage for the striker over the defender. The odds are also biased against the defender, theres only a 1 in 4 chance you can nail the right counter height but theres only three attack heights. The middle height as a seperate counter for kicks.
Despite all that. Its better than Streetfighter Or Tekken because you can't interupt a combo once its already started. Just gotta wait for it the combo to end. Atleast Dead Or Alive gives you a chance to save yourself.
At first it seems random, because theres no way to predict what height the next strike will be. But afterwhile you'l notice your your opponents patterns and you can counter them without guessing. Its no longer random. Its Metagaming. And the Counter Height Patterns for different opponents will never be the same. So the fights won't become stale or predictable.

Hoping for a next gen title though... I know it's a dream but I have hope.

when we talk about competitive games, there always is balance needed to be made post launch because devs cant account for everything the community will do. gamers tend to abuse anything abusable .
counter strikes awp had to be patched, even cod4 had to patch the m16.....no one comes out with a perfectly balanced game out of the box.
I can't wait to see what Netherrealm does with MK10. I just hope it's next gen exclusive and they don't rush it like they did with the past MK games with Midway.
Is Tekken x Streetfighter still happening? Or did the negative reception of Streetfighter x Tekken kill it?
Well it was never confirmed to be cancelled. I dont know how good Tekken X Street Fighter will be but I know it will probably be a lot different than Street Fighter X Tekken since it's being made by the Tekken devs this time and will be a 3D fighter.

...thus my reason for saying it(next gen Tekken) needs balanced characters. Just because they will likely patch a game doesn't mean it shouldn't be on the wish list.
Most fighting games with large rosters (20+) need a reboot just to shrink the roster size.
Tekken is a perfect example. There are so many characters with similar/same moves it's gotten ridiculous.
As for Western fighting games vs Japanese fighting games; I foresee the Western market continuing to inundated with simple "pick up and play" fighting games like MK and Killer Instinct. Japanese fighting games are literally the only genre they continue to do right IMO.
Well we need some more realistic looking characters like Mortal kombat but different gameplay to add more variety.
Then we need another Fight Night. EA clearly does not like money if they don't do this.
Killer Instinct is self evolving, so that will be good on its own.
Some of the indies will be getting bigger now.
Team 17 is about to throw out another Body Blows, and Southpeak brought the rights to Clay Fighter so we will be getting some of those.
Then there is the possibility that Street Fighter 5 will have 3 games as good as Street fighter 3, but that chance is very slim.
Midway Nethereakm is working on making new, and bringing back older fighrers from their old catelog.
Not much else of interest. Playmore, if they follow up with a progressive new game after KoFXiii than they might actuall go on to sell a good number over a million copies for the first time in their history of forever.
@Omega-316: Good one :D I actually own one already but haven't really played it (UFC 2009). I think I'm looking for something a little bit different, I guess the question is how the game would differ from UFC. Weapons would be one thing, make the game more streamlined ( I guess), not as complex as UFC. Take Soul Calibur for example, the characters all wield weapons. If you fail at parrying your opponent he could do some serious damage (probably kill you), you could parry his attack (maybe even disarm him and then take the fight to the ground).
It would be pretty exciting IMO, make the characters tired so you couldn't button smash all the time.
@ LegatoSkyheart
Whats so "Next Gen" about it ?
Other than it being only one an 8th Gen Console. Is there a reason why it wouldn't work on the 360 ?
What exactly do you want a "next gen" fighting game to do?
Cook you breakfast?
The genre has been largely the same for 20 years because there isn't really anywhere to go with the genre that wouldn't fundamentally change it into something other than a fighter.
2 people stand facing one another, announcer says "fight", and you beat on each other. What is there to add?
RPG elements?
@Bruin1986
They don't have to add anything..... They just have to stop lying..... The consoles them selves are barely "Next-Gen".....
That's "barely Next gen"??? EVERYTHING has been improved and games like SS, KZSF, Forza 5, and Rise already Sh!t on last gen offerings and they're launch titles.
@EnergyAbsorber:
Well im sure Capcom will make atleast another 4 versions of Street Fighter IV.
Looking forward to Super Street Figher IV Ultimate Turbo Special Championship Edition.
yup cause only capcom does this...... sigh that joke is so poor that its terrible and kinda sad to still see it. ya know damn well sega, namco and arc system works does the same exact thing to their fighters.
@OhSnapitz
All Graphics and No Gameplay........
Theres not a single "next-gen" that wouldn't work on the PS3 if they just downgraded the graphics.... The gameplay would be the same....
So define "Next gen" because you're basically saying NOTHING is "Next gen" regardless of the platform (that includes PC).
@Bruin1986
They don't have to add anything..... They just have to stop lying..... The consoles them selves are barely "Next-Gen".....
The consoles are the subsequent generation of hardware offerings by the major manufacturers.
They are, by definition, "next-generation"
It's not a subjective term or open to interpretation.
@OhSnapitz
Generations are stupid.
Hows that for a definition ?
That's a meaningless statement.
You either have "stupid" console generations, or you're still playing on the Nintendo NES.
Would you prefer the latter? Because there are countless gameplay aspects in today's games that would be impossible on a NES.
Define "Next Gen" . Is it something related to graphics or gameplay .? Or is it just about release dates .?
Next gen this , next gen that .

Dead or Alive has good teaching tools, as do Blazblue, Killer Instinct (seriously, the tutorial here is insanely good), and Injustice. And yes, Injustice does show frame data in the movelist.
Soul Calibur also has wonderful teaching tools. Likely because Namco.
@Bruin1986
Hey thats allright.... Gens are still stupid..... Alot of things in this medium are stupid.
Are car generations "stupid"? Should Formula 1 still be racing Ford Model T's around the track?
How about medicine? Would you prefer to have surgery without anesthesia like in the good ole' days?
Practically everything created by man is "generational" in one regard or another...
@Bruin1986
You could do the same thing with PC from now and 30 years ago......
I'm all for better hardware..... I'm just not into buzzwords like "Next-Gen". Could you explain to me why we're still saying "Next-Gen" instead of 8th Gen ?
Habits die hard. Same thing occurred last generation with people calling the xbox 360 and PS3 "next gen" consoles until like 2007-2008.
You could roughly do the same thing...just not nearly as well. Online networking, physics simulation, number of AI, AI complexity, graphics, scale, etc.
You can do the "same" thing in a P51 Mustang as you can do in a F-22 Raptor. Would you be willing to go to war in a P51 Mustang today? After all...they're basically the same thing.
@Bruin1986
1) Thats not a generation thats a racing Discipline.
2)Medicine doesn't have "Gens" they go with whats better. Its also not a form of entertainment.
I get it.... You love this medium.... But its far from perfect and I mean very far !
As long crap like Exclusivity lack of Backwards Compatibilty persist then yep.... "gens" are stupid.
Do fighting games ever really change? There's not a whole lot of room for innovation when you have a legion of crazy fans that get annoyed at minor changes, all they can really do is build on what's already there and try to refine it.
I'd like to see one of the big companies make a new franchise and try a different fighting game style though, not just the standard side on 1 Vs 1 combo/parry etc etc stuff we always get.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but fighting games started on arcade machines. It's interesting that after all this time, most mechanics seem to remain the same. It's also why i've lost interest in most fighting games. I just get one when it looks interesting liek Injustice of MK9. Looking forward to X just because it's MK.
i want a badass dragonball z game.
Budokai 3 is still the best IMHO.
I would be all over a street fighter like that. I really didn't liked the art style in 4. Just go back to 2d, ifts going to be that weird art that made everyone look weird.
I agree. Street Fighter 4 looked clunky. With the hardware at hand now, I bet really good 2d animation is possible--but it is likely far more expensive as well.............................Or maybe a technique like Nonikun.
@Bruin1986

I could just as easily reword the F1 comment asking would you prefer that they still race the cars from the 1940s?
Medicine not being a form of "entertainment" is irrelevant. The same principle applies. Game developers/publishers go with "whats better", just as medicine does.
I hardly "love" the medium. I literally haven't played a console game from start to finish in years.
I simply don't understand how there is any alternative.
