After watching the PS5 event everything looked pretty much current gen including HZD2 but with little touches of ray tracing I thought this was supposed to be a massive jump? I'm just not seeing it.

I agree to a large degree - but strap on your boots: that'll be worse every generation. Diminishing returns. What I was struck by was a properly diverse and LARGE list of games shown off. That's all I care about
Yup, lots of genres, which is cool
I agree, wasn’t blown away by the graphics. But remember the show was 1080/30. Think the trailers will be posted in 4k.
We also didn’t get to see proper uninterrupted gameplay from their biggest game, Horizon.
The dimension swapping in Ratchet and Clank was obviously to show something not possible on Ps4. So we got that at least.
But yeah, not blown away.
Everything looked great to me and keep in mind the stream was limited to 1080p30, they will upload 4K60 later today. Much more impressive than MS "gameplay" reveal and we got to see a proper looking next gen console and controller.
I will stick to PC then, xbox is trash and playstation looks average with good games. I will buy a ps5 when they drop the price. No xbox for me, rather pc.
console gaming in nutshell. what we expect?
beside these shows show only indie games.
only Hitman, RE8, deathloop were worthy games.

Agreed. Ratchet was the only thing that demos the speed of the SSD. I don't know how well they'll prioritize speed with this console. But that could be a selling point if they focus on it. I'm still expecting a lot of 30 fps titles on these consoles unfortunately.

Even then, horrible compression
The games will look way better when you actually play them.
No sense judging graphics based off streaming some trailers.
@ghosts4ever: HZD2, Ratchet and Clank, and Spiderman arent worthy?
nope.
horrizon will be another open world game. spiderman is just another third person open world movie game.
I think part of this is because we got mid-gen upgrades, and the one thing everybody should remember is that these used to be CG trailers. That was in-engine (or so we were lead to believe with the "footage captured on PS5" disclaimer.
I agree that the graphics really weren't that impressive (however, I think Horizon looked absolutely stunning, not sure how other people didn't).
Also, remember the SSD and lack of load times Sony's been talking about it. We saw it with the new Ratchet and Clank game, where dimensions (read: fully gameplay sequences) were popping up in real time with zero texture loading. That was absolutely bananas.
Early-gen games are seldom a huge leap graphically aside for a select few. You also have to remember compared to the base consoles, the resolution has jumped by 4x so this has to be taken into account.
Otherwise, games look like what I expected and has better techniques are discovered and tech advances, the games will look much better.
The only thing that has seen a reasonably good upgrade is the particles effects. Everything else looks the same. All games shown look worse than Metro Exodus on Ultra, let alone Extreme.
Games CAN look drastically better... But too much of that power is wasted on resolution chase. Its why companies are coming up with new technologies to hide lower resolution rendering so they can use that power for better Ray Tracing.
Games will look better over time through general and natural techniques and engine improvements but those take time to take affect and be implemented, but these consoles are slower than RTX 2080 Super so do not expect drastic improvements or things that are not capable of seeing now.
We will see games near the end of the cycle in 3-4 years that are truly not possible now but till then strap up and wait.
A 36 CU GPU is not a high end GPU from AMD... and if the rumours of a 80 CU chip are true neither is the XSX's 52 CU GPU top of the line, so you really shouldn't expect much.
Maybe by the time the PS6 comes out, you'll learn to not be so gullible anymore.
Touchy

That was the only time I saw the SSD being put to work from Sony. It was pretty cool seeing how fast and seamlessly it would load when Ratchet was jumping through levels.
Horizon 2 Forbidden West looked great; even with the horrible compression at 1080p & 30 frames. I know that game will be a beauty to play. Horizon Zero Dawn was one of the best looking games I've ever played on the Playstation 4 Pro at the time. I look forward to playing it on PC when it releases soon. I'm hoping Horizon 2 Forbidden West will release day 1 on PC alongside Playstation 5 but doubtful as I'm sure Sony will try to capitilize as many people as possible to make the jump to Playstation 5.
Give the developers time. Mid late gen will show.
Then one more generation to pump up resolution and frame rate to the max.

Not with those character models lol.
They're as atrocious as the voice acting and writing, but the environment and creature design is tight.
There over in that box there labelled: “Diminishing Returns”.
Anyway I was pretty satisfied myself with much of what I saw from the games in that Sony presentation.
We need 4K HDR footage of each game shown to judge the graphics.
HDR alone makes games look better.
I am happy with the graphics, I'm just sad about the lack of games... Where is GTA6 and Elder Scroll's 6?!

After all this time, i still haven't seen a single game or movie in proper 1000nits HDR.
I believed that most of the extra power in the series X and PS5 will be used to make the consoles 4K, not to bring about a ton of extra in game features and such, and I still hold that belief.
The console though...personally I think the PS5 looks...eh...bad. I mean it would make a pretty sleek looking router, but as a console...meh, I'll pass. I was going to pass on the next generation consoles anyways though, given the current micro-transaction situation. Yet, with me being a guy who had always bought Sony's console first, to be turned off by the simple look on the console came as a bit of a shook to me.

We probably wouldn't get GTA6 until 2024 is my guess in the mean time Rockstar will milk the shit out of GTAV online it's a smart business move but a shitty one for everybody else.

What do you mean?
Do you not have a TV capable of 1000 nits or do you think there is no content at 1000 nits?...
Most movies are mastered to 4000 nits btw.
My TV hit 700 nits BUT its a OLED so the black depth makes those nits count more.
Pushing 4K and ray tracing is gonna handcuff devs in other areas. You need this much power at a minimum to do that stuff. So we're gonna see a lot of current gen looking stuff, with higher resolutions and some lighting here and there. Oh, it's gonna load faster too! *eyeroll
Also the only trailer/gameplay on Sony's own YouTube channel that is at 60FPS is for Godfall... So much for the 60FPS next gen hype, next domino to fall and bubble to pop is that not many developers will make use of the PS5 NVME.

I have no tv 😆not even joking. My monitor is like 370nits, so i can't see shit sherlock
We say this at the start of every generation. I urge you to go back to the end of the PS360 days and look at posts talking about the launch titles for PS4 and Xbox One. None of the trailers really made your jaw drop. They looked like an improvement and much cleaner for sure, but you can tell the developers were still new to these machines. Also goes to show that it's not simple beefy hardware (although that always helps) and simply pressing a button to make gorgeous character models and worlds, but the need for talented devs and more experience with the tools. You can bet in 2024-2025 there will be games that look completely CG and take our breaths away and make us go "Not possible! How are they doing this?"

Let me guess, 1440p - 27inch - 144hz- IPS - LG
How close am I?
