Still no reviews, so that's a bit worrying. I really hope it does turn out alright though, gameplay looked good.

The fact that Epic can't make money from it would make me think Epic isn't going to be making a full proper Unreal.

It'll be a pretty dialed back game that's only benefit is that post Unreal2k4, the arena shooter space basically sucks. Sans Tribes Ascend being good.

Epic will make money by taking cuts from a user-driven mod marketplace.

Played all the leaked Unreal Engine 4 tech demo's and it looks 'meh' at best...

It's not about making money on the game. Their biggest money maker each year is licensing out their engine. This is a scheme to get more developers families with their engine so they can license it out to more games and collect royalties on that for years to come.

Think of it more like a long term investment for their entire eco system rather than just making money on the one game. They'll have the marketplace transactions that will happen (much like what Valve has for DotA/TF2) and then modders and future devs who know how to use the Unreal 4 engine to make games and assets for games.

Personally (and I know this is a minority opinion) I'd like to see light RTS elements like Quake Wars. Regardless if it doesn't exist, someone will most likely create a mod along the lines of CnC Renegade/QW. Which is great. The world is beautiful.

the muitplayer for that was good. i regret only renting it for a weekend and not buying it myself

Okay... Why would you need a singleplayer mode in UT? UT has always been multiplayer title.

The unreal engine 4 has the potential to do a lot of things so I really want to see what modders can do other than make content revolving around multiplayer. The Half life 2 community was able to make some cool MP mods.

Well you can do that simply with Unreal Engine 4 then. People will make shitload of UE4 content since the pricing is pretty accessible.

i can't see how a SP mod will be any different from the SP modes we have seen in the past for UT.

The last UR game I played was years ago so I don't remember much about SP modes. Hoping for some cool spin off from the modders like with Half Life.

I'm hoping for spin offs much like the mods for Half life 2

they take a % cut of any content that the mod creators sell...not exactly hard to understand....

They also make money from subscription from those modders for using UE4

This is some clever marketing. Getting new blood to get experienced and proficient with their modding tools will skew the market in their direction and make the Unreal Development Kit take up a bigger space in the market. Since the new modders are now so used to UDK most of them wont even bother with the other tools. Brilliant move epic, brilliant move.

This is a good move and benefits everyone really. Reminds me of what Microsoft does with their DreamSpark to get college students to get used to their tools and stick with them.

The community will make some awesome mods and the game is 100%

They get money from the modders who sell their content and subscription for their UE4 that is required to make those mods.
