It's too unpopular to the public to force an always online connection. It's also very unpopular to force people to pay $60/yr just to play a game online. Companies will do things they believe they can get away with to make more money. If Sony starts charging it's because they believe they can get away with it. Same reason MS charges.

I don't expect them to talk about that May 21st. These corporate guys are always about being 100% positive at events like that. Even acknowledging that there are negative rumors out there is considered talking negatively. The most you might get about it is in interviews with journalists after the show.

All the negative feedback about them requiring one made them change it. Imagine if most people bashed having to pay for xlive and refused. MS would have to greatly reduce it or get rid of the charge altogether. MS is the kind of company that will charge for and control everything they can unless absolutely forced not to.

Some one in Adam Orthos position wouldn't make something like that up.  For lems to even try to suggest he would say those things without concrete knowledge of what he  was talking about is more stupid then the idea of an always online console.

Not to me at all. MS is making all they can to win in the gaming business. Sony will be forced is being and will be forced to do many things along with MS to stay in the gaming business. Looks like MS adopted Bluray that Sony put into place. Looks like Sony is socializing online gaming more because of MS.

But they don't actually know (And I'd argue they're wrong), they're just assuming it. They always think the OTHER government guy must know. MS & Sony considered an always online connection. MS more to stop piracy. MS was just heavily rumored to be doing it and Sony announced their console first and declared they weren't doing it. Many rumors followed stating MS was going to do it. Now rumors are saying they're not. Too unpopular for MS to go through with it.

It is revevant. The point was just because he works there doesn't automatically mean he's in the loop about everything. He very well could have been reading all the rumors online just like the rest of us and became convinced of it that way (The same way a lot of these guys working for the government come to the conclusion there's an alien conspiracy despite them never having seen or heard anything regarding such a conspiracy while on the job). No way MS is telling everyone making Xbox games everything. If they did they wouldn't be able to keep anything secret.
