The people who think that the next machines from MS and Sony could launch as soon as next year are a little deluded imo. It will probably take atleast two more years before they come out, possibly more. The 360 and PS3 will stick around for a while, still. There is no reason to rush with new hardware and taking a loss on it when old hardware still sells. It makes sense since the install bases of the 360 and PS3 are pretty big and this means better software sales than a new and expensive generation. I don't doubt we'll eventually see them but just not anytime soon.

Don't tell LoosingENDS, I'm not sure he can hold up blind fanboyism for another couple of years with just Kinect shovelware.

Its either that... Or... They make a system that not the "Generation Leap" people wanted in order for the Wii U not to catch too much in sales. Either way is probable...but I leaning more toward "B" happening honestly. I think Microsoft and Sony have learned their lesson from the current gen.

Rumors are next year delusional or not I'd go with Christmas 2013 for a launch. They've been working on the PS4 and 720 for years now. Don't think either aren't prepared for the next consoles. 7-8 years is long enough to stay with outdated consoles.

Its called an "educated" guess. Notice that educated guesses need education. Something that you obviously lack with comments like this.

Yeah,I would go with that as well, though a late 2013 release for at least one of them isn´t out of question.

Yeah. People who are hoping to see new consoles next year have lost their mind a bit. No way in hell it's possible for that. If they are going to be released next year, it would have been announced by now.

Xbox 360 is dead already. It has no games, so it would be good to see Microsoft bringing out a new console to freshen things a bit. PS3 will suffice for a few more years.

Two reasons why PS3 will suffice for a few more years:-

  • It's future-proof due to Blu-ray, powerful processor and nice XMB interface that seems never get outdated. The best interface ever.
  • Lots of games! Exclusives just keep coming out.

Lets be realistic here.

According to cows hype, PS3 could last 20 more years and graphics would allways be improving. Avatar visuals would probably the next stop. According to reality, on the other hand, PS3 is as old tech as 360. Probably a bit less capable, considering it has less usable ram and an older GPU.

In fact, both consoles are still pretty alive and games keep coming. The problem is that ppl want consoles to handle games like Planetside 2 or E3 version of Watchdogs and Star Wars 1313. Those visuals will only be seen on PCs and next gen consoles.

Of course not. (I was responding to the line in yellow)

Well, the PS3 hardware is more advanced than the 360, probably a year ahead. You should know that. The Cell processor and Blu-ray - remember?

I have to say this once again which you will disagree, the PS3 is more capable of rendering resource-heavy games - Look at its exclusives, especially Uncharted, Killzone and more importantly, The Last of Us and Beyond: Two Souls.

Of course, PS3 version will be the jaggier and lower-res version of E3's Watchdogs. It is ran by a PC, obviously. But if it's really optimised for the PS3 and is exclusive to it, the story would be different.

I think wat he was trying to say in the the yellow part was when Sony lied about thier console doing 4D graphics and 120 FPS. It was hyped at being a high priced technical marvel that never became what it was hyped for. Seems that a lot of hardcore Sony supporters have forgotten that.

No it doesn;t make sense. THe old software still sales, so the old hardware can cover for losses. What the heck do you think the PS3 did? Sometimes you scare me when you forget to use the ol noggin. Kinect and Move hit concrete walls, so it would also not make sense to keep draggin these things out. While both are now making decent profit (more so 360) time to release the new consoles.

It really depends on Nintendos situation. If the wiiu takes off and 3rd parties start adopting it like crazy, Sony and MS will be forced to rush their consoles out. However, at least the next playstation and xbox will be true next gen. This 720p stuff on wiiu, if it turns out to be true, is just nonsense. Wii all over again.

Why should they rush expensive and powerful systems that won't make a profit for years? 360 and PS3 are actually profitable and still sell in decent quantities. The games also sell better on them than they would on fully new systems with much smaller install bases in the first few years. Even the PS2 still sells.

nameless12345

To maintain interest and not diminish the publics perception of brand quality. I know in my case, and everybody I know, I'm ready for new hardware. The games industry is very stale at the moment. It needs to life, and some restructuring in the form of dlc. People may think that it will be taken further next gen, but the recent complaints about locked on disc content will surely at least make companies think about what they are doing.

Well, the general public is still interested in the current-gen systems, hence the decent sales. People who think the console companies should be going for the latest and best tech and frequent releases of new hardware have no realistic insight imo. The PS2 remained populaur well after the 360 and even the PS3 came out. Infact I think Sony cut software support for PS2 a little too soon. I believe the system would still be selling in large quantities if it was getting new releases.

The PS2 might still sell but it didn't stop Sony from releasing the next console 6-7 years later did it? I don't see how releasing 7-8 years later is considered "rushing" or "updating hardware frequently". I think the only delusional person here is you.

Sony had a pure loss with the PS3 for the first few years.

Haha are you serious. BR is nothing more than medium and slow at that hence why most of the games need to be installed. The Cell proved to be a horrible choice for a games console. Sorry kid but you're wrong once again.

Guess I found 1 more delusional fanboy in this thread.

Releasing in 2013 could also be considered realistic. They've both been working on their next consoles for some time now and with the WiiU launching this year, 2013 is far from out of the question.

AGAIN, the PS@ was still supported even in its dead years as back-up for the PS3 (Until recently) so while the 360 and PS3 are selling and making profit, it would be a good time to bring out those systems into the waters while still having a ship to jump back on.

I realistically think that Google will be partnered with Sony for the next console release. I think it would make more sense for google to partner with sony just for the "playstation" brand name, vs releasing a "googlebox10,000".

Next year is still over a year away. They will probably announce it 6-8 months in advance IF they are indeed coming out. I'm not saying it's a sure thing just that it's possible.

GamerwillzPS

*sighs*

Honestly? People are delusional if they think they aren't coming.

At the earliest November 2013 and most likely November 2014.

I don't think its that far off for Sony and MS to announce their hardwareat the next E3 with a holiday launch...Bring a price drop to help encourage sales and make this gen continue forward..

I been saying 2014 and 2015 for 720 and PS4. Next year they will probably show some tech demos at E3.

I agree, anyone expecting PS4 or 720 to be released next year are in for a huge disappointment.

720 is coming out next year. PS4 won't cause Sony can't afford to launch a new console so thats pretty much the end for them.JohnnyCageMK

STFU. At least one of them, maybe both, will be out holiday 2013 IMO. It would be highly disappointing to go to 2014, and like a few others there's just no way I'm "waiting" that long before I just say hell with it and invest about $500 in a PC. Anybody that buys one of these overpriced heaps for $250 right now is a complete idiot, even bigger idiots paying $299 for the 360 or even more with Kinect.

I realistically think that Google will be partnered with Sony for the next console release. I think it would make more sense for google to partner with sony just for the "playstation" brand name, vs releasing a "googlebox10,000".

Google and Sony teaming up on a console would be awesome. The android market place is already called Google Play ..... might as well team up with Sony and make a PlayStation console.

They already did have a google TV branded blu-ray player which is kind of like a low end netbook you can hook into their television, they made a 2nd generation model, not sure if it's out yet or not. I believe Sony is the main supporter of this type of Google TV device, one other company debuted a similar machine at CES but I don't remember who. Unfortunately I don't think Google TV really took off, at least not as a standalone device. I know it's getting built into some 'smart' TV's though as just one of a number of internet applications, so it wouldn't be surprising to also see it as part of the PS4. I've never checked it out, so I literally have no idea what it does. The only reason the blu-ray player was interesting was because I was thinking about getting it for someone not "tech savvy" to use as a computer replacement and as an all around DVD/blu-ray player. I saw it at $199 and for that price it wasn't half bad at a conceptual level.

2013 or the consoles are dead on arrival. I think Sony and MS realize this so both will come out 2013.

The PS3's disc reader is showing its age, and having to install games every time is getting ridiculous. And the only notable exclusives for PS3 are the new God of War and TLOU.

It would be suicide to wait until 2014 for a new console. Maybe Sony will announce something at TGS this year. (Do they even go to TGS?)
