duke nukem 3d has better melee than halo u can kick while you are shooting and moving halo u have to stop shooting and hit someone with ur gun much slower paced.

who cares if moving while shooting and kicking isnt realistic realism watered down the games made em more casual.

Nintendo just released its latest quarterly earnings statement, and dear God is it a brighter picture than their last two financial statements.

The 3DS has made an amazing recovery, having sold 8.36 million units from October to December 2011, bringing its worldwide total up to 15.03 million in ten months.

On the other hand, the original Nintendo DS has now officially crossed 150 million units sold worldwide, becoming the highest selling system of all time.

The Wii was the slowest of the three, its total up to 94 million units sold.

The complete results can be found here.

Absolute Nintendomination again?

charizard1605
The PS2 was at 153 million last June I believe. DS isn't quite there yet. Very nice 3DS numbers.

realism is good in some ways but it's also bad when it comes to core shooting gameplay.

realism in good in some ways like in duke blood running down the wall u can watch it run down the wall after it splatters or u leave bloody footprints after walking over dead body lol.

I am very impressed with the 3DS right now. I had no idea it would do so well after a price cut and 2 Mario games coming out. The game lineup is also very impressive.

Yep, it refuses to die. Though Sony launching in additional territories certainly helps.

Most legendary console ever, and its success will never be replicated.

More like 11 months as it launched in Feb in Japan, however 15 million in less than a year is mighty impressive.

And people doubted dedicated handheld gaming machines.

That makes this article even stranger, it's today, I don't know when he was quoted:

President Satoru Iwata, who cut 3DS prices by as much as 40 percent last year, said he expects full-year sales of 14 million units for the device that beams images in 3-D, down from an earlier forecast of 16 million.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-01-26/nintendo-widens-full-year-loss-forecast-cuts-3ds-sales-estimate.html

Strange. 10 months, 15 million, should be on track to meet the 16 million mark for a full year.

They can't count the 3.6 million the 3DS sold until March 31, 2011, as they were sold in the 2010-11 FY.

The 16 million unit figure was for the 2011-12 FY (i.e April 1, 2011 to March 31, 2012).

^ They count from their fiscal year start, and that's some time after 3DS launched, which means some of the sales don't count towards that forecast.

The point is that it works as a reference to get a picture of how it fares when you've got nothing to go by.

Whether the real figure is 12m or 18m is irrelevant. 15m plus or minus x million, is all I want to know.

I really don't understand the nitpicking.

Why can't we use it as a reference when there's nothing else available? As you can see, they where within the 10% error margin, that's all VGChartz is "claiming". They are not meant to be real numbers.

It's just nice to know that 3DS "most likely" sold 15m plus or minus 1.5m. I actually value this information highly, provided they are consistently within the 10% margin.

What's the usual year over year increase in sales for hardware, specifically Nintendo handhelds? I'd say it could reach 40m units sold by the time 3DS has been out for two full years since the worldwide launch, especially if pokemon grey releases. And MH4 should be out in Japan this year right?

Nintendo just released its latest quarterly earnings statement, and dear God is it a brighter picture than their last two financial statements.

The 3DS has made an amazing recovery, having sold 8.36 million units from October to December 2011, bringing its worldwide total up to 15.03 million in ten months.

On the other hand, the original Nintendo DS has now officially crossed 150 million units sold worldwide, becoming the highest selling system of all time.

The Wii was the slowest of the three, its total up to 94 million units sold.

The complete results can be found here.

Absolute Nintendomination again?

And yet...they still made a loss! Something is very wrong when they're selling so many systems and can't even turn a profit.

Well here are some reasons I can think of

  • Nintendo released almost nothing for Wii in 2011, hence the Wii hardware sales dropped much faster than they should have, meaning they lost potential revenue.
  • Nintendo killed DS sales to strenghten 3DS'.
  • Bad exchange rates (strong yen) due to the economic crisis is eating up alot of their profits from sales outside of Japan.
  • Low 3DS software sales.

I mentioned the 15 million sales in another thread though :( To someone who said it was a fail. Nice to see you spreading the word so eagerly though.

I honest to God still thought sales were in the 7 million spot. This makes one of my earlier arguments with someone about Star Fox 3D seem a hell of a lot dumber...

I tried to put sales into my game system, but it seems like it only plays games.Androvinus

Tears of Failure don't play either, they just break it.

Quit crying, every other thread is about sales, yet when someone else brings something up about sales, all of a sudden they don't matter anymore.

This is striking evidence that Nintendo is doomed.

We're not going to be in a 3 console market much longer, my friends.
