[QUOTE="PurpleMan5000"] Just out of curiosity, what is Microsoft's newest IP?PurpleMan5000

It's most likely a recent XBL Arcade game or a Kinect game.

Oh, right. I was actually kind of debating whether Gears was newer than Forza, but it's probably something like Kinectimals.

The title was released in the last couple of months or so on xbl arcade.

First party exclusives are all they need to stay afloat. I don't know why people are arguing otherwise considering Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are, to date, the highest-rated exclusive games of the gen. And they're both sequels. On a console everyone kept screaming was Nintendo's effort to pander exclusively to casuals.

Well, I was kind of just joking, anyway. I mean, Gears isn't even Microsoft's IP, unless they bought it from Epic recently and I just haven't heard about it.

Everyone kept telling them not to continue with the Wii name and they didn't listen. Fail #1

lol who is "everyone"?

The tablet controller was a huge mistake considering they got the 3DS. Fail #2

What does their console controller have to do with their handheld?

Nintendo finally decided to go HD but the specs of the hardware will again lag behind the competition of the PS4 and new Xbox. Fail #3

Do you honestly think a dedicated gaming company will wage that war against two giants?

3rd party support is lagging big time and going the same route as the Cube and Wii. Fail #4

That is a fail.  And its been a fail for 15 years.

I don't know who is really in charge of Nintendo but whoever gave the green light for the Wii U needs to get fired.

Assuming the Wii U will be a total failure even though its only been out for a few months and Nintendo hasnt even launched their flagship yet.

The days of Nintendo are pretty much numbered unless they accept the failure of the Wii U and come out with a real console.

I've been hearing this for over a decade.  And I'll continue to hear it for over a decade more I'm sure.  Always a new generation of idiots to deal with.

Really it's all about the Graphics. Seriously. Just look at the reactions for Killzone.

If the WiiU had Jaw Dropping Graphics no one would be talking crap about it. They would just say "PS4 or 720 is going to be Better."

and even then I think 3rd parties would have avoided Nintendo like the plague.

Way to soon to call the Wii U a failure. The PS3 wasn't looking a whole lot better after launch but it game back stronger than ever so lets give the Wii U some time.

My opinion? Nintendo should only stick with handhelds and focus on 3DS's successor.
Abandon the home consoles and go 3rd party... they can make more money if they'd bring their IPs to Playstation, Xbox and PC. This way they focus on their existing games and on new IPs. Win for the company, win for the gamers and win for the industry.

People don't realize some very important business things when it comes to Nintendo. They are unique in that they never sell their consoles for a loss. So, even though the gamecube was outperformed by all the other consoles in sales, it still made plenty of money. The wii probably had an even bigger profit margin due to its nearly identical hardware. The Wii U didn't release until Nintendo probably guaranteed they could make a certain amount of money per console. It's smart, low risk business as opposed to Sony and Microsoft who take a risk with the console and try to make it up in game sales. Because of this, Nintendo needs to sell much fewer consoles than either of the other two in order to make a profit.

There needs to be a limit on how many 'Wii U is Doomed' threads that can be made in a day, good grief.

If you dont like Nintendo, fine. Now bugger off and find something else to talk about. We all know the console is struggling, is lacking system seller games, but it will pick up with more games being released.

Could talk about how the Vita is over a year old and is in an even worse position than Wii U being only 5 months old.

They really messed up with both the 3DS and Wii, the 3DS especially has a really crappy selling point and it came out at a silly price. They are lucky that they have such power in the handheld market that they managed to relaunch the 3DS somewhat after the price drop. The WiiU though takes everything about the Wii unique selling point and cheap price and does the opposite. The tablet while possibly a unique selling point has nowhere near the appeal of the Wiimote considering every device has touch and we already know the possibilities of touch with tablets and smartphones. Nintendo doesn't have anywhere near the same power in the console market as they do handheld, so not sure what they will do to reverse fortunes and pull another Wii.

I didn't know that four months was enough to decide a system is a failure.

It is their fault that it has been underwheliming thus far, obviously.

Yeah the Wii U does look like a failure so far (it could still turn around) but I bet Nintendo will pull a N64 this gen and then release something that will sell way more with their next console.

The Wii-U really is the PS3 of this generation.

The only area I'd say Nintendo failed in was overestimating their market's willingness to upgrade. 2012/2013 is a way different market than what Nintendo was catering to in 2006. Their target base are now playing games on smart phones and tablets.

No one is saying Nintendo is doomed quite the contrary actually. People are just saying that the WiiU is a failure and so far it looks like it. Nintendo is far from doomed and they are doing quite well as a company currently. I think they should scrap the WiiU and focus on their handhelds which actually print them money.

Unlike Sony, they aren't selling buildings. They aren't hurting for money at all. I doubt they are giving up on the Wii U. They really just need to re-market it when they finally get some better games. They need to go after 3rd party support, like Sony is doing now. Nintendo has always been about themselves. Never catered to 3rd party like Sony & Microsoft have done in the past. That was one of the reasons the Gamecube and now the Wii are slowly failing

Although I don't believe the Wii-U has already failed, I do believe that if it does fail it's well deserved. I own the Wii-U, and have only played one title in completion so far. I've owned it since almost day 1 release. I'm sure that Nintendo made A LOT of money off of the DS,DSlite, DSXL and the Wii. They should have taken that money, and better realized the Wii-U system. Regardless, I still look forward to the Zelda/Mario/Metroid/Donkey Kong/Pikmin titles I'm sure we will see in the years to come, but I am sure it will go through large periods of time where it will be a dust collector. It could have been SO much more...

They have the $. There is no way that the Wii-U would be their last console. However they are going to continue losing $ and sales if they don't just accept the Wii-U as a mistake kinda like the Virtual Boy.

But the console itself is awesome, its the games that we dont have thats the problem.

Like what? The baby boomer lineup that they have rehashed for 30 years?

Like SMG, Retro games, Zelda and so on. Acclaimed both critical and sales.

Way to early to say the Wii U failed

whitetiger3521

 WAKE UP the PS4 is coming out this year and the next Xbox is right behind it. Plus you can't forget about the Steam Box and other dedicated PC consoles that are on the way.

wake up your self ,   the gamecube only sold 26 million yet made about the same profit as sony did ps2 ,

fact is ,  nintendo will still be here and it is to early is ps4 out is ps4 priced is the launch games finalize another thing, we will have to see not launch but the months after ps4s launch how well it does,  if it ends up like vita  - good at launch but   falling to psvita levels /wii u levels due to no interisting games,

we shall see,  and even then you dont know what microsoft may do , they may be the ones that actually falls ,

because lets face it all the stupid decision over there ,    may just come back to haunt them , and whos to say that one of these 2 will be very expensive ? another thing you forget to mention is that powerful systems have never been a market leader ,   all of these things works in either nintendo or ms favor ,    depending on mses actions which is silent atm ,

wii u will be just fine though , even if it ends 3rd because it will be profitable,      and nintendo will have another stab at it the following gen and who knows they may just blow the roof then  !

A more relevant system to the times (as in more processing capability) would've done them wonders in terms of developer support.  BC was an overhyped mistake on their part.  What is most hilarious is that the GPU isn't the Wii U's biggest problem, but the CPU.

Nintendo didnt' have to compete with the PS4 and 720, but giving themselves some technical legs to stand well over the PS3 and 360 would've helped them quite a bit.

Nintendo sure as hell isn't the same damn company they were in the SNES days. The whole Wii idea was to bring casual gamers into the market and make a crap load of $$. They haven't stood by the hardcore gamers for a long time and developers are abandoning their system. They will still get the occasional multiplat like the gamecube but they are nowhere near to like it used to be.

I find Nintendo's biggest mistake was miscalculating 3rd party support.lamprey263

And that is suprising? Just look at Nitnendo's history dude. 3rd party support has been declining for a long time now and it's their own damn fault!

[QUOTE="bdmckinley"] An old meme but still relevant.Jag85
This has been happening every generation, ever since the NES days.

This cycle is only half true.

The NES and SNES printed money but N64 and NGC did not.

Wii and DS did exceptionally well but 3DS and WiiU probably won't repeat their success.

Right now, Nintendo have to turn around the WiiU like they did with the 3DS.
