Yeah price sounds good. Ill be buying for sure.
No surprise there. I get the impression you would buy a bag of cat vomit if it was embossed with a Nintendo logo.
*Nintendo seal of quality
Not only are they going with a season pass, they're actively locking a difficulty mode behind a season pass.
Nope, not buying this until I know what it is I am spending money on. I'm not interested in the first DLC pack- so unless I know what the extra story content and dungeon will be, I'll refrain from purchasing this.
Locking a difficulty mode behind a paywall, smh Nintendo
Not only are they going with a season pass, they're actively locking a difficulty mode behind a season pass.
Yep... I'm very disappointed Nintendo did this, but I also saw this coming after their past BS with Smash DLC.

Arguably something Zelda, espcailly the later titles have needed for a while.
Once the puzzles are figured out, with much of the difficulty coming from how obtusely they are explained, the combat provides practically no challenge, both minions and bosses requiring very little input.
Pretty low replay value unless you have a very short memory.
Someone did this in the comments section of the video, but it's worth doing here:
"And one thing Nintendo has determined as a company policy, what we are not going to do is create a full game and then say, ‘let's hold this back for DLC.' That's not our plan. We're definitely not doing that. It's an extreme example, but I think there are examples of games where you get that initial purchase — the very core part of the game — and everything else around it is all DLC. However, if you do that I believe customers will have no motivation to go out and buy the retail package to begin with." - Satoru Iwata, 2012 Kotaku interview.
Oh how far they fell back on that...
@sailor232: TP HD still had Hero Mode.
Yeah that is something, but to go even harder you needed to buy Ganondorf. I remember it being a big issue and people not liking it back then either, hell people have never like dlc but it continues because those same people still buy it.
@nintendoboy16: Proof they held this back from the main game?
My question is this. You're still replying to me after my Kimishima/Trump comparison?
Besides probably the hard mode... admittedly, none! Maybe not the best quote to pick given their former stance on DLC, but announcing this before the damn game even releases does NOT give good vibes here. I mean, for f*** sake, OoT 3D never had "Master Quest" behind a paywall. You'd think they'd know better. Guess not!

Yeah, but you could use him on first play-through. Which was awesome. I used him on Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD. I think people just complained cause they didnt understand. Same with now. For all we know this New Hard Mode, could be something really cool. Same with the trials.

A difficulty is not cool... Its something that should be in the game...
This was extremely disappointing to hear this morning. The Zelda name always carried such a high level of esteem. This is a sad day in the industry.
@iandizion713: Its a difficulty, difficulties should not be locked behind a paywall
that is what they are doing
Exactly, and like what you said, this is exactly what they're holding back. After OoT 3D having Master Quest included, you'd think they'd do better. I guess not.
OOT 3d was an already mostly, designed game with a few alternations.
The Master Quest was originally sold as a bonus disk, it was never in the original release.
Aside from more difficult puzzles, that are only difficult because of how obtuse are, bordering on guess work at times, combat is still easy to the point of pointlessness, bit like Halflife 2.
YS is good though.

So no proof. Thought so.

We dont know what it is exactly, they havnt said. For all we know Breath of the Wild has Hero Mode.

I can't believe she is trying to justify this move.

Even if it has Hero mode I dont care, if they are locking hard mode behind a paywall they are still being stupid

Nintendo is doing unprecedented things that no other company has done before. Thanks Nintendo.

The fact that it's a DIFFICULTY mode and this was announced before release sure as hell gives some awful implications.

Hero Mode is thee hard mode. The DLC is probably just a New Hard Mode.
@aigis: Your acting like you dont.
Doesn't that make any difference? It is still behind the paywall.
@aigis: Yeah, which is cool, theyre locking a New Hard Mode behind an awesome Season Pass. Cant wait to find out what it is.
hmm. well this is system wars so no need to reserve judgement.
the first DLC looks pants and i have seen free patches do more. locking a higher difficulty behind a paywall is nonsense especially.
the second DLC could be interesting. i will need to see whats in it in detail.
it would be better if nintendo focused on proper expansions for this game though rather than just small DLC. needs to be more witcher and less EA. im not against the idea in principal as long as there is plenty of game in the base game (something breath of the wild doesnt seem to lack in fairness) and this zelda looks ripe for expansions like that. but small stuff like the first DLC (the difficulty especially) looks more like free patch territority.
@osan0: I say if your gonna go making stand alone expansions, just make me a new Zelda. But with Nintendo behind it, id have faith in it.
Typical overreaction to anything Nintendo. It's a single player experience with no multi-player component. To extend its shelf life, they give you an expansion. We know the game will be at least 30+ hours for the most linear path in the game just like Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess.
The only downside is some of the options should be included such as a difficulty setting. I surmise that it simply wasn't ready to meet the launch.
This is not a situation where Nintendo sent out half a game, like some developers do, then charge you for the rest - yet this board takes it that way. Ridiculous as usual.

I somehow doubt that with the amount of delays... Games already gone gold too so.... Even removing all that, it should be a free update, not part of paid dlc
@iandizion713: that will take longer though and is more expensive to produce (note i said expansion, not stand alone expansion which is a bit different). they have a strong base game to work off and they can focus more on the content because everything else used to make the game is already done. i mean the witcher 3 expansions just slot right into the main game and you can play them whenever (given certain conditions). the expansions for diablo 2 and 3 were also pretty darn good. GTA has had some great expansions in the past (though those were stand alone).
breath of the wild looks like it would be quite suitable for witcher type expansions that just slot into the main game. im sure they left plenty of ideas on the table due to time constraints which could now be developed without needing a new game.
@osan0: Yeah, maybe. As long as its not too much. Ill have a bunch of Nintendo games to play, i dont want to get burned out on one game.
This isn't new for Nintendo. They locked plenty of content behind an extra paywall on their Wii u games.
I've been happy with Nintendo's DLC offerings in the past (Hyrule Warriors, Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros, heaps of 3DS games, etc.).
I'll be picking this up too - and I'll be a LOT happier to pay for more Zelda dungeons than I would be to pay for...what, cut story content from Final Fantasy 15?
I really don't understand the resistance to DLC. Judge the game on its merits. If it feels empty without the DLC then there is an issue. Most of the time, DLC is stuff that would make the game feel bloated if it were included right off the bat, and should only be there for the gamers who really loved the experienced and want that bloat.
It's also about economics. Games in the past didn't have DLC, but their budgets were also minuscule compared to today's budgets, and took much more man-hours to produce. If you care about the viability of gaming, then DLC is a good thing.
However I would agree that the Hard Mode seems like something that should be included in the main game, but that depends on what it is. If it's a large investment like re-designed areas, then I don't see the problem.
At least Nintendo is decent about it.
1. They tell you what you're getting and when.
2. It's priced somewhat normally.
It's priced normally, as in it's a terrible ripoff, just as most DLC is.
I don't see much decent about it either, they are charging for "hard mode" and a map feature... and a few in-game items that as per most DLC's are probably useless and not even close to the best items in the game (and even if they were the "best" items in the game, is that even a good thing to mess with the experience like that - pay to win?).
The only decent thing is the "additional story" and dungeon. Content is good. It remains to be seen if it's $20 good, but knowing most DLC not even close.
