Nintendo has announced that gamers where bored before the Wii, just didn't know!

Give me a break - had "N" actually delivered a true next gen. controller where it mattered - lets say in a golf game where you must stand up and swing the golf club ( Wiimote )accurately to make the club to ball contact precisely as real golf -then yes - that would be cool but the gimmick is the truth: a flick of the wrist is all that's needed and that's no revolution IMHO ! :P

PS: It's even worse that in Wii tennis you don't move you're character to the spot needed to hit the ball - the AI takes care of that FUNDAMENTAL of Tennis - how cheap is that ? :?

So were gamecube/n64 owners. RE4, Metroid Prime 1/2, The paper mario games, Zelda Ocarina of time and Majora's mask, goldeneye 007, perfect dark, banjo kazooie, and mario 64.. to name a few.

The real difference is that the ps1 and ps2 saw a higher number of good and great games per year on average.

Always had a blast and this just got better with the PS3. I'm sure that all the guys who been playing on their Xbox-Xbox360 for years are not bored seeing how many great games they have. Also guys who have been gaming on their PC's aren't bored I think.

How soon people forget, "5 million people will buy our console even if we had no games!" and "People must be willing to work overtime if they want to play the PS3!'

Nintendo at least has a point. They would never have sold ten million Wiis and 50 million Dses on marketing alone. If just the PROMISE of something different was enough to drive this much demand--and not all of it even from non-gamers or casuals--then there has to be something to the notion that people were "bored" with gaming.

I dont see the big deal here. I mean, the woman works in marketing for Pete's sake! It's her job to say outlandish things to promote her companies product.

Honestly, I dont see why so many of you insist on taking offence. Really, this statement just line right up with everything else Nintendo has said about their mission for Wii: attracting those who have lost interest in games. Believe it or not, some people were getting bored with games. I know, strange right, but it's true.

I liken it to that new song you love. When you first hear it, you cant get enough. But after awhile, it gets stale, to the point you cant stand it. But you still listen to it, for whatever reason. Games were thesame way for some people. They got sick of all the FPS's and RPG's, sick of all the 30+ hours they had to dedicate to see the climax. Or others simply had other priorites (school, family, etc) come into the picture. These are the people she's talking about here. Not us, who still remain so heavily invested in this hobby.

Again, I really dont see the need to be offended here. This comment doesn't apply to any of us, so why bother?

They're right. They were obviously not addressing people like you, TC, but many people were giving up on gaming because it took too much of there time and other priorities in their life came into being. Do you think a person who's starting out on a new job or starting up a new family has a lot of time for gaming? There are going to be exceptions where people will always continue gaming, but many were feeling bored with gaming in general as well because it was too time consuming and the games were too similar.

This is not to say there aren't any traditional gamers. Nintendo had the right idea to go after the people who were leaving the industry and the Wii has been a success. Why do you think it continues to sell out even today? Nintendo knows what its talking about since they did the research and are capitalising on it.

My definition of a gamer is similar to that of a football or baseball fan that loves the stats of the players, breaking news, to scores of the teams and the league, the behind the scenes drama.

That is a true gamer to me which does prefer a specific team but can appreciate the competition that enjoys the environment that gaming brings. The technology behind new systems, the story behind the games, the community of the system.

It goes beyond just playing the game in my mind.

Nintendo's been in the business far longer than Sony has, at least, long enough not to blow a hojillion dollars on a difficult-to-develop-for machine, then try and compensate by selling said machine for an absurd amount of money. That, and they don't have Ken Kutaragi.

Nintendo is essentially pulling a PS2 this gen. I mean, if you look at the PS2, the reason it had such a massive library was because of the console's sheer selling power that drew in companies who wanted to cash in, some good, many not so good. Nintendo is now in a similar situation. I'm sure the PS2's first year of it's 5+ year lifespan wasn't as glamorous as the following years, and it's downright silly to expect Nintendo to churn out AAAs back to back within the first year itself.

People seem to forget that good games take time, and the Wii has only been out for a year. The Xbox 360, in comparison, has been out for two, a sizable amount of time to build a stellar library. The PC, of course, has been out forever.

The PS2's initial draw wasn't it's stellar library, but rather (what most gamers seem to neglect) it's affordable delivery of a competent DVD player + a game console, and THEN the library became the selling point. Nintendo's motion controls now are the console's draw, and by this time next year, the Wii will have selling power on its library's merits, not the console's.

The bulk of many games out there are either boring, tedious, and/or just not plain fun. The gaming industry on a whole was just imploding really, with sales of games mostly relying on established fan-bases. Hype revolves around only a handful of games, and the bulk of games out there are spat and looked down upon simply because they are not AAAA material.

Best example to date is Lair, something that was supposed to be great but ended up something some people ended up forcing themselves to like, rather than take it for what it is: Pretty looking garbage. I'd have to say that falls under the "Just don't know" catagory. Of course I'll probably be burned at the stake for say such a thing.

I agree. To be honest while standing in the side-lines I noticed many similarities before the U.S. and Japan (before the gaming recession)

Expensive Consoles: The SNES debut at $210 in Japan, the Saturn however (which was successful there) at over $400 and the PSX at over $300 as well. I'm sure you hear gamers complaining at the price of consoles here ALL the time.

Development Costs: Due to FMV starting to become standard and experimenting with 3D, game development skyrocketed, this isn't good for a country where most of your games sell primarly in your region with it being so small. Right now we are constantly hearing devs. complain about costs even though North America and Europe are so much bigger then Japan.

Sequals: Seriously how many JRPG sequels and Fighting Revisions did you have during that generation? Isn't that similar to all the shooters coming out now?

Gaming God Old and Boring: Japan has been into games longer then we have, so thus having them get tedious faster, however it was still relitively new to us. Now that.....well was changing, if I stand corrected I remember hearing many reports especially from EA that the Gaming Market was declining in North America Pre-Wii release.

At least Im seeing innovative NEW titles from Sony and MS, games like Little Big Planet, Viva Pinata,and games like Shadow of the Colossus from last gen.

I agree that Nintendo deserves some criticism. But thanks for adding in the part about "all the little sheep eating out of the palm of their hand" and the "we get called kiddy blah blah bla."

I respect you if you don't like Nintendo. I just hate elitist "hardcore" gamers who tell me I must be a slave to Nintendo for buying their stuff. I also don't like it when you tell me how I should just sit by idly while people insult my intelligence and taste in gaming.

Well I dont like to here that I was bored with gameing before the Wii...thats kindda like "were do get off?" sure there are times were I feel sorry for the amount of attacks towards Nintendo fans but its not like Nintendo doesnt do the same, yet everytime there is an argument towards Nintendo there is always someone saying they are getting picked on and Im tired of hearing, every system and fan gets there share of bashing, and I really dont like the hypocrasy in this thread, like Nintendo has a right to say that (when they really dont) after last gen when we got things like who does sony think they are saying the things they say.

They are right. Gamecube and N64 owners got real bored real fast. Except...they knew it.

PS owners on the other hand...were experiencing 10+ years of some of the best games ever made.

Erm, the N64 and Gamecube are still so fun, and I for one still play them constantly with friends. You've been playing 10+ years of PS games :lol:, well in that case i'm still playing 22 years worth of superior Nintendo games.

First of all, I'm sick of people using "this is System Wars" as an excuse.

Second of all, the main point of that sentence was not that I was getting insulted (it happens all the time), but that you say you are tired of hearingNintendo fans complain. I don't care if you say Nintendo games suck, but I think I am entitled to argue right back.

Third of all, you're not the one bashing my taste in games. That would be a bunch of other people.

So you are basically telling me that it is okay to make fun of people in System Wars, but if you are a Nintendo fan, don'tsay anything backbecause people are tired of hearing about it. RIGHT.

You think bioshock is great and you can play it for hours at a time...cool. But most people will get bored of it after 15 min...because most people don't play video games like that.
