N64 - They stuck with cartridges and lost every bit of 3rd party support.

Gamecube - They used small discs and missed out on most 3rd party games yet again.

Wii - It was the most underpowered console ever and had mandatory motion and waggle controls that 3rd parties wanted nothing to do with. It also had a laughably pathetic online system.

Wiiu - Yet another severely underpowered console with a gimmick controller.

On the software side of things they haven't created a single new quality core IP since the early 90s.

Over 15 years and 4 consoles later and Nintendo still hasn't learned why core gamers and 3rd parties want nothing to do with them.

what are u talking about? check the numbers, the n64 did great and was the better console, the cube started off slow but picked up speed near the end of the gen but its been downhill ever since.

"Under powered console" ..really? Does it really need to be powerful for kids who wanna play Mario? That's what Nintendo is catered to... Kids. And Wtf is wrong with that? Nintendo shouldn't even be mentioned in SW its apples and oranges f**k off with these threads.

It should appeal to everybody not just kids/families. People wan't GTA and Mario on one console. Do you realise outdated harware is an easy way to lose 3rd party support?

I feel Nintendo and it's fans are limiting it's growth as a company, there's no harm in branching out and supporting all audiences.

Yet the wii probably had the largest demographic in console history.

[QUOTE="MBirdy88"]Wii outsold PS3, had a higher attachment rate, had the highest scoring exclusive this generation, top games in sales outsold anything on PS3. Your obsession is laughable.WilliamRLBaker

And how is all that 'success' working out for the Wii U?

how did all the success of the ps2 work out for the ps3? this means nothing to the argument at hand as much as your comment.

Wii U sold moslty to none gamers. It was the first console to "win" with barely any games. LMAO It's nothing to brag about IMO. Many people were still playing ps2 games long afer it's generation.

That demographic is likely now on phones and tablets. It's an unproven market. My guess is that Nintendo started r&d on wiiu while the wii concept was still a hot commodity. Over time they realized that the sure fire consumer is the core audience, the ones that return each gen. In the middle of wiiu development they likely saw this, but had no option but to go ahead with wiiu because of the amount of development cost and time already put into it. A mistake, I'd say, and one even recognized by Nintendo. Oddly enough, Microsoft is still chasing this same questionable market.

[QUOTE="Heirren"][QUOTE="Bread_or_Decide"] As we continue to learn...graphics don't mean squat. Except for the SNES which had both superior graphics and great third party support. LegatoSkyheart

That's debatable, even if I might agree.

I actually thought the Genesis Graphics were better. The only thing SNES had was better Sound.

Find me something on Genesis that's on PAR with Donkey Kong Country.

Agreed, I used to play VR in the arcade all the time and couldn't hardy believe how well they translated it to the Genny. My brother and I had a blast with the split screen racing.

Also I put Strider up against any game of the time as well.

I wouldn't' call n64 selling 30mil when ps1 sold 100mill great. The better consoole? N64 had better graphics but hardly any adult games(I only liked goldeneye). Ps1 had the better controls with dual analogs and games with more adult titles

There isn't anything. That's one of the games I was referring to. Amazing animation, audio, visuals, and zero slowdown if I remember correctly(there might have been a hiccup here and there.). This game was really a pusher from a technical standpoint, often referred to in publications as passable for a next gen game. Nothing on genesis touches it.

Yes Nintendo has been behind the rest of the industry since 1996.

N64 they include Analog stick and Rumble - Their competitors follow with analog and rumble
Wii they include motion controllers - Their competitors follow with Sixaxis, Move, and Kinect
Wii U they include a touch screen - Their competitors put a touch pad in the controller.

I know Nintendo didn't invent everything or were the first to introduce it but they did popularize it on consoles. I also just interpreted your thread title as a positive for Nintendo. Since they are behind the ideas that their competitors use.

Uncle Chan: One more thing!

Me: Sorry, I had to :P, but anyway, we also can't forget N64 popularized built in four player local multiplayer support. Something Nintendo continued with the GameCube and SEGA and Microsoft also implemented with Dreamcast and XBOX. Sony skipped that with PS2 and used multitaps instead (which were only acceptable with the PS1).

My post was sort of a joke post because you could technically interpret the TC's thread title as a positive for Nintendo instead of a negative.

I did use some facts that Nintendo did popularize them on consoles but they weren't the first to use them.

This is the 1st console Sony lost money on and they are back in the black. Now I can't say the same for the rest of the company. I would go so far as to say the playstation brand is what is keeping Sony from going under. Also just the ps2 alone would almost equal what Nintendo has done on the N64/GC/wii.

That is a resounding "no" right there.

Still that can be also argued as an adverse effect to gamers. Lost $$$ from used games sales means smaller budget for new game releases and could make developers look to other places to cover the loss (online pass/dlc/ect).

Stuff costing devs money isn't automatically bad. It's just reality. They've to pay their staff, pay taxes, and (like any producer of any product ever) that there's a second hand market.

[QUOTE="locopatho"] Well paying their employees to develop games is a cost too, maybe they should be allowed have slaves? :Plocopatho

??

Stuff costing devs money isn't automatically bad. It's just reality. They've to pay their staff, pay taxes, and (like any producer of any product ever) that there's a second hand market.

Never said anything in contra to the first part of your statement.

When it comes to the second hand market, the difference between the game game industry and any other industries with a second hand market is that the game industry through the technology and means they develop products actually has potential to regulate their used market. Well with the exception of the music industry which has gone almost completely digital in revenue and thus basically eliminated a used market on that front.

Yes yes, but remember Nintendo WON Generation 7 with that awesome Wii system. Nintendo fans were on high....and then...

Coolyfett was ok with Nintendo during the gamecube and N64 days, when their fans knew their place in the gaming world, when the Nintendo gamers were humble before the days of the Wii. Then the Wii came out and the egos of Nintendo fans went crazy. Coolyfett calls it karma. Nintendo fans need to learn their place.
