We need to see a BRAND NEW THIRTD PARTY GAME on the Switch. I'm talking Resident Evil 7. Something releasing THIS year for all three consoles.

That's seriously all people really need to see.

There is no such confusion. The reveal trailer from several months ago already demonstrated to the average consumer what the Switch is:

It's not remotely comparable to the Wii U, where the title created confusion for the average consumer, not making it clear that it was a new Nintendo console, rather than some Wii add-on.

Also, the biggest mistakes in gaming history were Atari's blunders in the early '80s, which crashed the home video game industry, before Nintendo came along and revived it.

Me thinks the haters are grasping at straws. Either they're pretending to be idiots or they are actual idiots.

The switch message is clear. A console you take on the go. It's all visual, no words necessary.

Now they've expanded on that message, so yes it's a little more complex, but that's the point of slowly revealing more and more about the console.

I predict in the month before release even more info will be released, including more widespread third party support.

Once again Nintendo needs to explain what their new hardware actually is.

Nintendo has been forced to come out and explain that the Switch is a home console. This of course follows Nintendo having to explain just what the Wii U was.

Who is to blame for this? Is it Nintendo themselves not understanding what consumers want or is it how they're explaining it? You would think that when you have a show that's all about your new product you would, you know, explain what it is.

Nintendo is already doing damage control for their new hardware before release, again.

So far the Wii U and the Switch are starting exactly the same way. Poor debut, damage control trying to explain everything, sold out with the Nintendo fans but failing to gain traction in the mainstream.

They dont want "bad" talk at this moment if you get what i mean ... 2 months before official release and not a word about systems specs ... thats epic fail imho. And this is happening to not take away any momentum they build with systems price and Zelda/Mario trailers/demos.

Because now what majority is saying for example ? That 299$ is a sweet price . What if Nintendo would tell them they actually giving 299$ to buy a slightly better Wii U power speaking ? Then suddenly 299$ looks expensive isnt ? And thats because they insist this is a console.

And so many other issues i can think about like how the system will stand against PRO/SCORPIO/PC in the future , 3rd parties etc.

They want to hype their system , its price and its games and by revealing systems specs wont help at all the cause.

What? The messaging on the Switch has been extremely clear. I don't know anyone that's confused about what it should be, neither have I read that anywhere before this post.

I love coming to a thread where there are so many old gamespotters. There's a touch of class to the discussions.

As for the Topic, the Switch was clear in the first commercial. Too bad there are so many features we still don't know about this close to launch.

I think the message on what the console is is clear. What isn't clear is how they will tackle the console/handheld hybrid aspect of system.

So far all we have seen is console experiences even 1,2 Switch which is their Wii Sports type game to show the console off isn't portable focused at all. New IP ARMs also not really portable, as they are pushing the motion control aspect of it.

They really could have done to have a game that tackles both being able to play in short burst on the go, but also providing a deeper console experience if you sit down for hours with it.

If the future is some games that could be on a handheld and some games that are full blown console experiences i.e. Skyrim will be a terrible idea as it will just make a mess of a system. They need to find a way to combine the two going forward (at least on the first party front).

@Jaysonguy: I wish they would have showed more games and talked less about those damn controllers. I mean, one of the main problems with the Wii U was its severe lack of 3rd party support. Instead of reassuring the customer that they're going to actually get content this time around, they harp on and on about the interface.

Here's the thing, they literally could take as much time as they wanted. It's not like they were saddled with a network's schedule and had to pay for time and then try to make it all work. They literally had as much time as they needed to get everything straight.

Now logic would tell you that if the last time you did something it ended extremely badly the next time you attempt it you do extra work so history does not repeat itself.

They had time to talk about the hardware, software, and online infrastructure because they ran everything.

You can make excuses at E3 or when you're on someone else's show that "due to time constraints we were forced to skip over some parts of the presentation." I know firsthand that putting together a show with other companies in the gaming industry is a logistical nightmare. You need to make sure your stuff works, their stuff works, the event's stuff works, it's completely fair to clarify after a show run by someone else.

This is 100% all them. We learned that questions sunk the Wii U, the ambiguity that Nintendo left after their presentation killed any chance of it working even before no games, crappy add ons, etc.

The Switch show left people with more questions than answers and no one has ever wondered about a product and decided to buy it to find out what's up. They either do some research or in most cases they move on to other things because Nintendo does not do one thing special or unique in the world, there are game companies all over the world with products that people can get without having to play detective.

You are exactly right, they should have focused more on games, they should have focused on everything but they didn't and they either didn't because they don't know how to do their jobs or they didn't want to do their jobs.

Not sure which is worse.

Well they made it clear what the device was.

But they also made it very clear there is zero 3rd party support or games in the make. As everything felt really early or they simple didn't even had footage to showcase if there even was a announcement.

The only real switch exclusive mario is only going to be released in late 2017, which is just to late in my opinion.

It does feel more like a 3DS kind of thing, 3DS was extremely hyped way more hyped then this thing, and fell off directly after its launch by having only ports and crappy shovelware games for way to high prices like arms stuff.

With the high price and the unknowns about the online system + system spec it's a bit risky for mostly a lot of people to push themselves towards buying it.

@Gatygun: Dont forget Splatoon 2 coming soon. That game sold like hot cakes on Wii U which nobody bought.
