Had the big N left Sony and MS to their own devices we would be getting generation after generation of rising cost, More expensive consoles, more expensive games, higher development cost, and no innovation. This certainly would have led to a crash.

You should send Nintendo a thank you note.

There was nothing to save.

And Nintendo's console can easily lead to just as worse of a result as people assume the PS3/360 is leading us.

If anything, Nintendo is teaching the industry to make the cheapest possible product, add a gimick and watch the money come rolling in. Theres no point trying to hide it. Nintendo wants money. Everybody does.

They just brought a different controller into the game, I wouldn't call that saving the industry.

Yea, now the industry is full of minigames, half-assed money makers, and 1st party that get a sequel once every 3-4 years.

I honestly think there would've been a massive decline in gaming (not a crash)

I mean think about it how many times can you play a game where you shoot something in the head.

Also Nintendo has resurrected all the good genres like platformers, adventure games, and dungeon crawlers.

Instead we'll get generation after generation of overpriced outdated hardware with medicore games that act more like controler tech demos than actual satysfying gameplay experience. Sometimes I wish ninty didn't save console gaming back in 80s, we would all be playing on computers now(Imagine the wars here, Amiga users vs pc ones, amigos vs hermis :D )

No massive amount of rehases, non varied genres, and death of small developers.

It will, but don't expect real graphical jump next gen. they will keep their prices low, but also won't try to make the most powerful console possible. It looks like this is the last "next-gen". In the future the only "next-gen" will be found on PCs

The three best selling genres *besides sports obviously* were all action games or shooters *action  mostly mean games like max payne while shooters mean gears of war or halo*

There's only so much further graphics can go, so i'm fine with more incremental hardware, i'd rather they focus on things to make the gaming experience new, like a modern version of VR

DS

and NiGHTS, SPM, MG = Platformer

Treasure Island Z, Snatcher 2 = Adventure

Dungeon Crawlers are still yet to be seen but I know Atlus will get right on that.

Finally consoles will be focused on "game mechanics" again instead of competing with power on something that will always be more powerful then it........and I do really mean always.

At $600+, yeah i'd rather have weaker graphics and pay only $300

It is not only weaker graphics, it is FORCING outdated physics in games too, as the hardware cannot handle the physics the 360 and ps3 produce in games. That is actually destroying gaming

The same could be said that they are FORCING developers to use physics and power for games they don't want to or don't need and kill off all the genres that don't use it.

More like from 40 million dollar plus standard for most decent games, increasing risk for developers forcing them to stick to proven forumlas instead of expanding a genre. Our saving us from 500 $ Plus consoles and 60 - 80 $ games? The Wii might have failed to hit the balance but thruthfully I rather take the Wii route than the PS3/360 route. (Got a 360 and Wii btw.)

well, duh, but that doesn't mean that they would continue raising prices on their future consoles

not anymore

I know, just look at the price.

[QUOTE="axt113"][QUOTE="Teufelhuhn"]Saved the industry from what, exactly? Games with improved graphics, gameplay, and production values?Ezgam3r

At $600+, yeah i'd rather have weaker graphics and pay only $300

It is not only weaker graphics, it is FORCING outdated physics in games too, as the hardware cannot handle the physics the 360 and ps3 produce in games. That is actually destroying gaming

Some of my favorite games of all time were done on machines that weren't even N64 level

So are alot of mine. But were the systems top notch when said games came out?

Nope, DS is weak in hardware, GBA was weak, Gameboy was weak, etc.

Also Nintendo has resurrected all the good genres like platformers, adventure games, and dungeon crawlers.

Funny, but there are no good Wii games from this genre, and upcoming line-ups of them also look very weak. So how did Ninty ressurect those?

Super Paper Mario, Twilight Princess... I'l leave the last to someone else.

Yes, because all consoles from now on will be $600. Get a clue.

Elite is $480 and PS3 is about $600, next gen it would have been even higher if not for the Wii

Yea, because those two consoles are selling great.

becasue Wii is there to give an alternative, but if Wii wasn't there, one of the other two would've come out on top

Ok i'll look

Wii - $250

360 - $300
