Nintendo consoles havent had a good game library since the SNES. That was what, 20 years ago?

I remember when our family rented the N64 and PS1. We stopped renting the N64 because outside of Mario 64 it had no games. PS1 had loads of games.

It was the same story with the gamecube. and the Wii. and the Wii U.

Nintendo - just stop. Stop making consoles. Stick to handhelds. Publish your games on the x bone and PS4. They will sell by the truckloads.

Stop with these failed hardware experiments. You lucked out with the gimmick Wii controller, so dont let that fool you. Handhelds are where you excel. Stick with that.

I will accept that I am wrong if anyone could prove the next Nintendo console wont be just another failure in the long line of Nintendo console failures. Sorry, but the Wii was a failure. It had a gimmick controller and sold like crazy to casuals with terrible shovelware titles.

Again, I will accept I am wrong if someone posts some plausible way the next Nintendo console wont AGAIN offer AWFUL 3rd party support, awful online, and limited games. They should just quit now while the bleeding is limited

Say goodbye to the last scion of local multiplayer games, because Nintendo would go handheld only.

I agree I wish they would just stay with one piece of hardware. I mean sometimes Nintendo is their own worst enemy by splitting their IP among two systems.

I agree. Nintendo hasn't had a great system since the snes. The GC had the potential. I dont think Nintendo takes their consoles seriously. Either that or their just fu**in stupid.

I think Nintendo would be much better off as a third party developer. Imagine the bidding wars that would go on between Sony and MS for the rights to Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, Smash Bros. and so on! Of those four, I would see Mario and Mario Kart being the best fits on a Xbox platform with Kinect integration. I then see Sony grabbing with Zelda and Smash Bros.

I would love to knowwhysome people would like less options.

Don't like Nintendo? No one is telling you to buy into them. What is the problem otherwise? lol

Btw the N64 was a pretty great machine, just because of the exl. games. ( Some are timeless by many)

They dont need to stop making consoles.

They just need to MAKE A NORMAL FUCKING CONSOLE. Stop shooting themselves in the foot by doing stupid shit for no reason, nobody asked for.

And get rid of the notion that having shitty specs makes games more fun.

The Wii U's dated graphics are apparent even in SM3DW, and no doubt it will be in the next Zelda game. Guarrantee the next Zelda game will have some type of highly stylized "artstyle"/format designed to hide the Wii U's specs, ala. an isometric gameplay perspective ala SM3DL.

@TrappedInABox91: some people may want all Nintendo content in one place (ie put it all on their handheld or console, but not both). Some people may want to have the awesomeness of Nintendo software without buying a machine that essentially just plays that software (ie put it on PS4 or X1). I don't think people are focused on wanting less options as you appear to be thinking.

This thread again. Just get over it. if you want Nintendo games, get a Nintendo console. Otherwise, let them worry about it, and you can skip the "failure" of a console, and let other people enjoy it.

Compared to the PS1 it had none.

N64 was the beginning of the end of Nintendo consoles. They havent recovered since. I remember wondering when the sequel to Mario 64 was going to come out on the N64. It never did...

If they make a normal console that only solves one problem. Are people going to pay prices similiar to a Playstation 5 or Xbox Infinity to play Nintendo's limited and tired exclusives? People want more then Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, and Donkey Kong. Can Nintendo promise they'll make new IPs worth playing? Why wasnt Little Big Planet on their system? Nintendo is asleep at the wheel and on their current course they just need to mercy kill their console division.

Unless theres big changes in Nintendos philosophy (lots of firings need to happen) I dont want to see another Nintendo console.

This is the most ridiculous comment I've seen in a long time. The more PS1 games there are doesn't make less N64 games.

And this thread is full of so much obscure opinion it's irrelevant. Alot of people liked the N64. Just because you don't doesn't mean there are 0 good games on the system.

Nintendo has issues all of their consoles from the n64 have had storage issues and they keep changing their controller. If the wii u had a hard drive and a regular controller I think they would have more 3rd party support. Hey it's nintendo they always do something stupid and come up with a excuse that only makes sense to nintendo. On the n64 they didn't go cd. On GC the used mini dvd and no hard drive. On the wii no hard drive crappy hardware.

Now we have the wii u no hard drive and 8GB with weak hardware and a weird controller.

Their games are ideal on their machines. I like the different feel that Nintendo consoles give. They are always coming out with new ways to play and I don't want to lose the innovation they bring like rumble, analog sticks, shoulder buttons, etc. Nintendo consoles are some of the best. The n64 had an amazing lineup, gc had some amazing games, the wii had some real jewels on it, and the Wii u will also get amazing games. If you don't like them, then why do you want them to go 3rd party? I mean you said they have all been bad since the snes and the only good game on the n64 was mario64 when it had 2 great Zelda games, mk64, the conker games, dk64, and plenty of other great games.

Funny how everyone is getting bent out of shape about this but know it's true. Nintendo is always behind in someway either with tech, development support, or online. They need to step their game up or go third party. 32 GB of flash memory is unacceptable in 2013. Not to mention the dumb gimmicks of the game pad and low system power.

In terms of the thread. I kind of agree. Nintendo builds consoles for its games, not for the battlefield 4's etc.. The nintendo titles don't require the specs of battlefields or call of dutys.

But I admit I'd love to see nintendo go largely software based. and handheld of course.

If Nintendo is happy with 1/3 or 1/2 the sales of the console leader of each gen then they can continue to do that.

Their main problem is software though. Look how Microsoft threw huge amounts of cash at Respawn to make Titan Fall exclusive. Whens the last time Nintendo secured anything 3rd party? They're more then happy to just sit on the same tired old 1st party games. They make underpowered hardware to play their games because they dont have to worry about them looking better anywhere else. Nothing is directly competing with Mario so they can get away with that crap somewhat.

Seriously, their rehashing Smash Bros etc etc is just as bad as the yearly call of duty.

So if for their next console Nintendo has to : make a "normal" console with at least comparable power of the strongest, develop new IPs, secure more 3rd party support, vastly improve online structure, drop the gimmick controller, add bluray support, and add way more games to the e store as its current selection is the biggest most pathetic joke. No SMB3? !?!?!?

I really doubt Nintendo can do all this in one gen. Their fall has been ongoing for around 15 years, ever since they blew it with the N64 cartridge. Their credibility is already down the toilet. I think its too late for them. As I said, pull the plug before they go too deep in the red.

Continue making handhelds and put all your software on the other consoles. Super Mario 3D World would sell 10x more copies if it were on the x bone and PS4.

Doesnt matter how many sequels came out most of those titles were new IPs that started on the PS1. Tomb Raider, Twisted Metal, Need for Speed, Gran Turismo, Parasite Eve, Tekken, etc etc, all got their start on PS1.

It was the PS1's amazing success that paved the way for the PS2 to sell 150 million consoles.

Need for Speed actually started on the 3DO, then ported over to DOS, Saturn and PS1. Tomb Raider was also multiplatform appearing on DOS, and Saturn along with PS1. Tekken was an arcade game first. Final Fantasy and Metal Gear, well, everyone knows where the started and it's not a Sony system.

Yes Metal Gear and Final Fantasy left Nintendo because of how bad the N64 was.

The N64 was actually their first attempt at a wonky controller

Nintendo has never fully recovered from the N64 screwup and probably never will unless they hire a Mark Cerny to save them.

The N64 was actually their first attempt at a wonky controller

Nintendo has never fully recovered from the N64 screwup and probably never will unless they hire a Mark Cerny to save them.

YOU SUCK SHIT

Well, it looks like sheep have no answers on how to save Nintendo in the console industry.

Its impossible to fix: bad hardware, no 3rd party support, lack of new IPs, bad controllers, bad online/network, bad reputation.

Why should they continue to make consoles? Didnt the Wii get outsold pretty badly once all the casuals got bored of it because theres no games? Throw the Wii out of the Mix and Nintendo finished last every gen since the SNES. They have beat the beta box with the Gamecube, thats about it.

If you think Nintendo is fine, then thats sad. THey have ALOT of work to do if they ever want to be a player in the console industry again. Super Mario 3d world already bombed and its possible the next Zelda will too. Thats not looking good for the future.

Contradict yourself anymore?

I like how you ignored the majority of my post to focus on two games. Nintendo knows how to make solid, reliable hardware. Something Sony could take a lesson in. What console had the highest rated game last gen? Answer that one.

The highest rated game last gen was GTAIV LOL

He's right. Square dropped nintendo because final fantasy was better suited for disc. Nintendo hardware does nothing for their games or for third party developers aside from Wii Sports which is anomaly. Your Marios and Zeldas would play just as well if not better on PS/XBOX

wasnt only that ff7 was better suited to disc it was more the fact that nintendo were horrible to 3rd partys in the past with extortiante fees if they wanted to publish on a nintendo system etc

3rd partys saw sega failing and nintendo werre sticking to their extortion on fees so they all jumped to sony who gave them a big break :)

nintendo used to be really big pricks to devs and publishers in the nes and snes era and that bit them in the ass when they all jumped to the new guy :)

It was part of it to be sure. Although having cartridges didn't help either.
