Nintendo has released its Q3 Earnings for fiscal year 2017.

Here are some highlights:

Hardware:

Switch LTD now 14.86 Million after 10 months; officially outsells the Wii U.

By Region (LTD):

Americas - 5.94 M (40%)

Other - 5.20 M (35%)

Japan - 3.72 M (25%)

Forecast raised to 15 M for Fiscal Year; Projected LTD of 17.73 by March 31, 2017

CEO in Press Conference: Nintendo expects to sell 20M + in FY '18 (April 1, 2018 - March 31, 2019)

3DS LTD now 71.99 Million (+3.0 Million from last quarter)

Super Mario Odyssey - 9.07 M

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 7.33 M (+2.91 M)

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch) - 6.7 M (+2.0 M)

@stereointegrity: Mario appeals to a wider audience and has always sold better than Zelda. But yes, BotW is one of the best games ever created and way better than Odyssey. A higher percentage of Switch owners should buy the game.

I think Aonuma once said BotW needed to sell 4 million to be successful and cover the production costs, so 6.7 million for the Switch version alone is really good though. And let’s not forget it is a launch title for a new and really successful console, so sales numbers will see a steady growth over the next years.

I cannot wait to play the next iteration on BotW.

BOTW Switch is on track to be the best selling Zelda of all time on an individual platform, and BOTW combined will eventually be the best selling Zelda across all platforms, including remakes and reissues. I agree that every Switch owner should have one - I think it's the greatest game of all time - but it's still doing exceptionally well by the series' historical standards:

Odyssey is a monster! It's gonna be a system seller for a long time. It'll easily be the best selling 3D Mario. Maybe it'll hit something like 15 million in the end?

And Switch outselling Wii U by 1.3 million in under 10 months... that's something. Switch is tracking a bit behind PS4 right now, so if things keep going well it could end up being the third best selling home console of all time behind PS4 and PS2.

I weep for those Minish Cap and Link Between Worlds numbers.
Both amazing games on platforms with a huge install base.

And Majora's Mask sales are pretty disappointing as well, even though it's a N64 title. Still my favourite Zelda game and top 3 games of all time.

The 3DS remake added more than 2 million to its LTD, so hopefully that included a lot of first time players. I had it for the N64, but I never went past the first dungeon. I finished it for the first time on the 3DS.

If the sales trends keep up, there will be new records broken for both 3D Legend of Zelda and 3D Super Mario series games.

I like Sony and Nintendo and I think both companies can coexist and they do compliment each other well with their systems. There's more than enough room for Sony and Nintendo to do well in this industry. It's a shame you feel Sony ruined gaming because in reality they opened gaming and made it more mainstream than it ever was under Nintendo in the 80s and early 90s.

Nintendo is an even greater company now than they were in the past thanks to competition from Sony. Same shit with MS joining the industry, they forced Sony and Nintendo to start taking online gaming seriously and develop their online multiplayer and store fronts. Without competition from Sony and MS, Nintendo probably would have stagnated after SEGA flopped out. They would be nowhere near as good as they are now.

see that's the thing. i can't accept them as my overlords because they are not. not yet anyway. the numbers are still on nintendo's side. like i can't overlook that and just praise sony because it would be stupid because it is not true.

Nintendo has been around longer and has released more systems. Obviously they'd be higher than Sony in this regard.

By the end of the gen, 3 out of 4 Sony Systems will have surpassed 100 million in sales, and the PS4 will surpass the PS1 and Wii in sales while it chases after the PS2 (making it the #2 selling home console of all time). It's very impressive any how you try to spin it. Sony's lowest selling console is the PS3 and that sold over 86 million. Obviously with handhelds they are nowhere near Nintendo but as far as home consoles go they have an unmatched track record and are kings.

Franchise strength obviously belongs to Nintendo, their first party has a long and cherished history. They've been around longer than any of Sony's and Sony tends to kill franchises after a new gen arrives (with the exception of GT) so obviously there's no way they'd catch up to Nintendo in sales of first part franchises. Software sales in total though, they absolutely dominate Nintendo and even MS. It's not even a question.

SEGA died because of poor choices they made with the SEGA CD, 32X, Saturn, and the failure of the DC in Japan. Trust me, I was a diehard SEGA fan long before I was a Sony fan. SEGA was already on their way out after the PS1 launched and nothing would have saved them. Sony wasn't responsible for their demise, they screwed themselves over by releasing too many consoles in a short period of time. Gaming would have not been better after Sega had inevitably died and left only Nintendo in the market, that's just the fanboy in you talking. Competition is always better for the industry whether you like it or not.

Hell, the Wii U was a failure in sales but at least it had a good library of exclusive gems which still causes it to have more purpose to exist compared to the X1. And now poor 'ole X1 is being trailed by the barely one year old Switch. :(

Always the optimistic one. Not going to happen. I'll give you it definitely has a shot surpassing my sales prediction, but come on now.
