traslation = we made the wii mostly for the casuals because it's a cashcow... who cares about the hardcore crowd

before you start... yes obviously sony and ms are in it for the money too...but at least they're not alienation the hardcore, but instead embracing them

again before you go off, yes nintendo has completely alienated the hardcore crowd..but com'n, any fool can see that their least interest is the hardcore crowd...they are very much alienating the ppl who made them what they are today

smg and brawl are the last 2 franchises that will ultimately decide wether i will buy a wii or not this generation

WuTangG

Nope they are happy playing a few AAs, and hyping random crap like No More Heroes and Disaster

The ony disaster right now is the Kidtendo Wii Wii

Yeah, sure dude go back and play a couple of FPS to get in the mod again, on the other hand, i'll go back to my Melee until i wait for Galaxy, Brawl, NO MORE HEROES, Disaster, its funny cause this games are going to sell like crazy, and make devs to put a little more effort in their games, so in a year or two we gonna have great games for the Wii. (Damn i sound like a COW, "...so in a year or two...")

[QUOTE="Burnsmiesta"]I don't think Nintendo dominance is good for this industry. As a hardcore gamer I'm worried that MS and Sony will try to go after the casual gamer in the future leaving the hardcore gamer behind. Money is the word for these companies unfortunately.Tylendal

If you count the number of hardcore games on the Wii developed by 1st party, and compare it to the number of 1st party games focused on the casual or non-gamer crowd, you'll find that there is nothing to be afraid of.

Yeah your right but what about the 3rd party games? Microsoft and Sony built their consoles to be catered towards the hardcore gamer, Nintendo on the other hand towards the casual gamer. What if Microsoft and Sony decide to do the same next gen?

Why make a better game when Wii fankids are going to buy it even if its garbage?

so basically they dont care about the people who ahve supported them from the begining... SELL OUTS!ramulux
I'm one of the people who supported them from the beginning and I play casual games more than anything now, I think Nintendo's strategy is brilliant. Once you have a real job, a wife and you've busted out some kids you don't get to play games all day. I remember playing Zelda all weekend on the NES when I was a kid but that's just not going to happen now, I'll take 20 minute bursts of fun on the DS though. Hell, I've had Bioshock sitting there by my 360 since it came out and I haven't had time to even check it out yet. I understand hardcore gamers, I was one when I was a kid. But if you're ~30 and have the time to play games all day you're not "hardcore" you're a loser. Nintendo has it right.

I was thinking about this the other day and Sony and M$ have the advantage.

While their consoles can "downgrade" and have games targeted for kids and casuals the Wii can't "upgrade"

Sony and Microsoft have put themselves in a strategic hole by failing to court casual gamers, a top Nintendo executive, Regie Fils Aime said.

"They've gone down the path with very expensive machines where they lose money on every console sold," he said. "They have a significant strategic conundrum and one that won't be easy to resolve."

Nintendo, until recently a laggard in the console wars, has embarked on a campaign to extend the market for video games beyond the hard-core 15- to 29-year-old male demographic, Mr. Fils Aime said. The company has accomplished that by offering new DS titles beyond the shoot-'em-up genre like Brain Age 2, designed to help Baby Boomers maintain their mental acuity. New titles will help users learn French, raise their babies, and find recipes, he added.

"Others have chosen to drive immersion by incrementally increasing graphic resolution," he said. "We've focused on the tactile, how you interact with the game."

What do you guys think? Has Nintendo been the only one to make the right decision for this gen? Can Nintendo keep up its success? And will Sony/Microsoft be able to get out of this "significant strategic conundrum?

Practical, real life skills derived from my mindless, drone-like video gaming? No thanks.

Yet you have time to ascend to level 24 on a lame gaming forum?

That same logic applies to the 360 and PS3. The fact of the matter is, good games ALWAYS follow good sales. This is a business, and businesses want MORE sales. Good games generate more AND longer sales. No developer ever "settles" for the minimum. Otherwise the industry would've died long ago.

no matter how many people dig the wii, i just cant get into the thing.

i dont jump on the popular bandwagon, i stick with what i like. and it's 360. nothing about the wii appeals to me. i had my run with Nintendo ,mario and zelda in the 90's. some people dont wanna let go and some people are new to these games. without the xbox and playstation consoles gaming would be dead boring. Nintendo hasnt really pushed gaming in the last 10 years. games like, gta, halo, mgs,ff, madden , hl2 etc... is what has been driving gaming.

ill take awesome games over a wii and it's controller any day of the week.

Nintendo thinks they can keep low for 10 years, then bring back 90's gaming and sell it to people, well it's working on alot of fools but it didnt work on me.
