Can we all apply common sense here? Switch sold what Nintendo was able to ship. This thing is sold out everywhere right now, so it's no mystery.

Great news. It is still going to fail. Mark my words.
I doubt it does Wii or PS4 numbers in the end, but a good 70 million at least. My thinking is having Console quality Mario, Zelda's AND Pokemon, it simply can't fail.
@goldenelementxl: Yes, Nintendo fans support their consoles, look at number of Wii U sales
But look at the software sales. Splatoon outsold Halo 5 and Bloodborne. Mario Kart 8 has a greater than 50% attach rate AND outsold Uncharted 4. The PS4 has an install base that is more than 5 times larger than the Wii U's.
I rest my case
But you have to look at bundling. I get what you're saying, Nintendo just make quality shit with sales legs, but Mario Kart isn't comparable to Uncharted or Halo. Halo 5 wasn't mass bundled at any point and managed 5+ million. Splatoon and Mario Kart 8 came with every other WiiU sku.
Halo 5 wasn't mass bundled at any point
Those aren't mass bundles. Destiny PS4 in 2014 was mass bundling, Black Ops 3 in 2015, Uncharted 4 in 2016. Halo 5 had the odd bundle but they weren't pushed as the premier Sku to sell over the holidays and throughout the year. If you recall it was actually the Gears Ultimate bundle in 2015. MS don't mass bundle Halo. Just like Nintendo don't mass bundle Zelda and Sony don't mass bundle God Of War.
And lets not pretend Nintendo don't have a distinct advantage when it comes to bundling. They don't have to contend with marketing Destiny 2, CoD, Battlefront II, Red Dead 2. Gran Turismo Sport for example will probably have to play second fiddle to one of those when it comes to holiday bundles. Where as Nintendo can put their full marketing power behind Splatoon 2, Mario Kart and Mario Oddysey. In fact I bet it's hard to even find a Switch without at least one of those games bundled this holiday.
May is a gift month, no not for Mothers Day in the US, but it's the time where kids are graduating High School and are going to College as well as those who are getting their Undergrad. Getting a Switch as a Grad present will be high ;)

Thats what happens when you have barely anything else to play...
Oh you gonna tell me a Mario game outsold Uncharted? Who would've thought? If you wanna go there then GTA V on PS4 outsold Mario Kart 8. Its a stupid comparison i kno but so was yours
I rest my case
I wouldn't be surprised if GTA V on PS4 outsold the Wii U. At least I compared exclusives to other exclusives. If Uncharted is the end all be all like Cows claim it is, it would have a better than 1/8 attach rate. Exclusives are so important to Cows, yet they don't they buy them?
And the Wii U had an underrated library. It's exclusives list is more impressive than the PS4s and Xbox Ones. But of course when this argument is made, 3rd party support becomes the topic of discussion. The goal posts are always moving...
You wanna go exclusive new IPs? Ok. TLoU remastered outsold Splatoon
http://www.vgchartz.com/game/80977/the-last-of-us/
http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=splatoon
And that was a remaster of a PS3 game so I would say its even more impressive
Point is Mario is Mario. Saying a game from a franchise that is recognized by billions of people (even non-gamers) outsold a franchise that is mostly know just within the gaming community isnt fair and you know it.
Uncharted 4 sold 8.7 million copies if thats not impressive than many games werent really impressive this gen. 90% of game developers would kill to have numbers like these on their games
edit: I did some research and the last offical numbers for MK8 put it at 8 million
http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/10/mario_kart_8_has_now_sold_8_million_units_worldwide
while U4 is at 8.7 million
https://www.gamespot.com/articles/uncharted-4-sells-87-million-copies/1100-6446650/
And MK8 has been released for a lot longer than U4 so, unless I missed something, your numbers were wrong
@charizard1605 Time to update your thread as Nintendo has sold 2.4 Million Switches world wide, beating out their initial expectations of 2 million. Yeah, they really did made a lot of extra Switches.

New news, new thread. I'll make it.
I think it will be as successful as the Wii if not more.
I doubt it, I dont think they can hit the same audiences now that they have burned them with the wii
I don't think Nintendo burned anyone with the Wii.
It went for a casual audience and was a massive success.
Casuals don't hold grudges with companies the same way some forumites here do.
They saw a product that looked fun and exciting, they gobbled it up. They played it, enjoyed it and then put it away and moved on. No hard feelings there. The same will be with the Switch.
They see a unique interesting product, and lo and behold it's selling at a fantastic rate. I don't think it will reach Wii levels, but i can see something like 40-50 million being reasonable.
There is no bad here. Even if you meant Wiiu in your post, the same logic applies. Casuals saw the WiiU and were not as interested, thus it didn't sell. They aren't going to brood in the corner and think Nintendo "owes them" for anything.

what I mean is, when Wii came on the scene it hit the casual market because of the motion controls and accessibility. Its not so much hard feels as it is I dont think the fringe casuals that they hit with the wii will be willing to come back to the switch for motion controls when they already have a wii. Its not so much about the content on the system as the system itself. The switch is focusing on portability which probably isnt going to hit home with a crazy amount of casuals like the wii did.
40-50 million is reasonable, wii numbers are crazy high
@aigis: Gonna go out on a limb and say 3DS numbers, which is 60-70 million.
Wii numbers not gonna happen though, yeah.

I think they will surpass 3DS numbers! Damn.... E3 2017 can't come sooner..... Japan will be very dominant if one of those 20 UE4 is Final Fantasy VII and Kingdom Hearts 3. Of course Pokemon and Monster Hunter 5 will seal the deal.
@Pedro: Ok, I hope you will be there to wake me up. Why you think it's gonna fail ?
Its is positioning itself in the same arena as the WiiU. The Switch is not a viable home console. Nintendo has to bite the bullet and own up to this being the replacement for the 3DS otherwise it will fail.
I.. I actually agree with this statement. Nintendo has to pound and pound the portability of the switch and forgo the "Home console" talk. I think if they can successfully position this system as a viable 3DS replacement, they're good.
@charizard1605: I can see it if they keep up the momentum
Pretty much what it boils down to. I can totally see this system surpassing 3DS numbers if the momentum keeps up.
@bobrossperm: my brain hurts from trying to understand wtf you are saying.
Basically Nintendo games are bundled out the wazoo, hence the 50% Attach rates of games like Mario Kart 8. It's not that fucking hard really.

I think they can do it. If anyone can its Nintendo.
They have the eyes on them...good. Now is the time to keep the momentum with several strong releases. Zelda is not going to last forever.
Great news. It is still going to fail. Mark my words.
I think E3 is going to be telling of where this system is going to go. They need more than just Mario Odyssey to capture gamers again.
@bobrossperm: Damn cows and lems are salty that Nintendo's exclusives are so much better than their own.
People still have to put down their money to buy it. That's the whole purpose of a bundle.
If it's not a system seller then the bundle doesn't sell. If it's a system seller then people pay their hard earned money for the console.
its funny the zelda attach rate is even mentioned. Is the only game it has....................the switch will be another wii/wiiu. It will have a handful of great nintendo games and collect dust the other 99% of the time. I cant support nintendo anymore, Im going to borrow my brothers wiiu to play zelda when hes donr, but Im not buying another nintend oconsole to many disappointments in a row.
And:
1. How many of those units are now sitting gathering dust with no decent games to play once people have finished Zelda.
2. How many of the 900,000+ units are replacement units from faulty hardware and scratched screens?
The Wii sold a huge amount of hardware but most people never used them as there was very little software choice compared to PS360.
I always said that having a Zelda game at launch was a major part of the Wii's success. The best part about the Switch is that it ensures the death of the Xbox brand. With a Switch and a PS4 Pro you have the hottest consoles out and Xbox is just looking like a dud.
Nice to see Nintendo fans getting back into the game with something to shout about.
@Vatusus: Only one thing to say to that post, "LolVGChartz"
At least I provided some sort of source for my arguments. goldenelementxl provided NONE.

Sometimes providing inaccurate information is worse than not presenting any at all. Besides my response is required by system wars
Sometimes providing inaccurate information is worse than not presenting any at all.
Do you have proof VGChartz is innacurate other then "lolVGChartz" tiresome meme?
Actually VGChartz hasnt been far too off from official numbers
see:
http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=uncharted+4

People have been joking about VGChartz for long now. Are they too afraid they arent actually that wrong so that they dont loose their arguments?
My previous post puts Uncharted 4 official numbers over MK8 official numbers without using VGChartz. Thats better then putting sh*t out of your a** if you ask me
@Vatusus: Vgchartz sometimes uses official numbers, but most the time they just estimate and guess. Without an official number, we have no clue.

I don't really care either way, I don't follow links to VG Chartz, Polygon or Kotaku so I have no idea what the contents is.
VG Chartz has a reputation, that they have justly earned, and that is all links to their site deserve nothing more than a "LolVGChartz" response, it was even in the old System Wars survival guide. I'm just sticking with tradition.
Good for Nintendo, but since this is System Wars let me just say that the PlayStation 4 sold over 1 million the first day only in north America. https://www.gamespot.com/articles/sony-sells-1-million-ps4s-on-day-one-in-north-america/1100-6416221/
With a November launch, great.
Also ignoring the fact that the Switch is supply constrained, which the PS4 never was.

The PlayStation 4 had a supply shortage that lasted for months! lol

@ButDuuude: Ah well. Switch is definitely more supply constrained, since only 2 million were made (more PS4s were made).
Plus Holiday launch.

Nintendo exclusives have been known to float my boat more than anything else, but there's no denying that games in general would sell less without bundles, and Nintendo loves bundles.
Nintendo Switch, the new home gaming system that people can also take on the go, has sold faster in its launch month than any other video game system in Nintendo history. The Nintendo Switch system sold more than 906,000 units in March, according to the NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States. That makes Nintendo Switch one of the fastest-selling video game systems of all time. Notably, this sales surge was accomplished in a nontraditional month for a console launch.
The Nintendo Switch system sold more than 906,000 units in March, according to the NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game sold over 1.3 million units*. That total includes more than 925,000 units sold for Nintendo Switch and nearly 460,000 units sold for the Wii U console.
That means that Nintendo sold more of this game for Nintendo Switch than it sold Nintendo Switch systems, for an attach rate of more than 100 percent. This may be attributed to people who purchased both a limited edition of the game to collect and a second version to play.
Hot damn.
Huge, major success for Nintendo. Now let's hope they keep the momentum up, and that more great games come.
Zelda's attached rate would be high since Switch's game library is very small.

NO PS4 or xbox game had that attach rate on launch and there were few games on both.
This is true but both systems were competing with their already strong predecessor that were still cannibalizing their games.
