@charizard1605:
Nah, don't think a simple ND (even a really great one) will be quite enough for this one.
They don't just need to talk to their current fanbase, they need to broaden their message, the overall excitement to a whole different base (unless they want another WiiU, in which case nevermind hehe). The best way to do that is to wow the "press" (I do use the term fairly loosely here) and get them actually excited. While a ND could eventually do that (though a lot more flags would need to be checked to achieve it I feel) something more akin to what MS and Sony did will get the press (and people) talking about it for much longer.
Stuff like podcasts, opinion articles, constant speculation on what it can be (assuming they don't reveal every single detail right away), how it's games will actually play, the possibilities of the hardware (gimmicks, connectivity, ecosystem, etc, etc), how it will fare against the competition and so forth. I recall 2013 being filled with these sort of articles for the PS4 and XB1. That, followed by good marketing (read, smart marketing) created quite the "hype train".
I dunno, maybe a ND can achieve that, but locking back I don't think they ever did achieve that sort of excitement (there were a few exeptions, Cloud on Smash comes to mind even if it was sorta short-lived) with that format.
