@LJS9502_basic: But they are.

Why because you say so? You don't generate the income Nintendo has over the years being stupid.

Because I think they are stupid, therefore I shall decree them to be stupid, in my opinion.

The really dumb thing is you people taking such an innocuous statement, one made all the time on boards like this, so seriously, especially when a previous exchange on this very topic in this very thread had already indicated I wasn't even all that serious about this to begin with.

If showing at E3 means they will be presenting on stage,...not E3 Direct video. :P Hopefully they show more than just the *controller* this time xP.

It was also a different era though. Xbox kept screaming 'power power power' and it didn't help them. It didn't matter until we got into the Digital Foundry era. Now hardware specs matter. Hopefully Nintendo did the smart thing and made this thing strong.

That's true. Well, it at least didn't help Xbox get anywhere near the Ps2, but can you imagine if it was only as capable or weaker.

And I thought of this also, one reason Nintendo doesn't give out specs is because their 3rd party relations have been pretty bad, they pretty much said here's the dev kits and figure out what it can do yourself.

Now, they hired a new 3rd party relations guy, and they're improving all that stuff, so that's another reason they have to share technical details now.

The funny thing is that announcing the specs isn't even for the 3rd party people. They'll already be keyed in to what NX is about. Announcing the specs will be more for the 'core' gaming audience who believes in that hardware specs makes a console great and nothing else. Once they see that the hardware is up to snuff they'll most likely go after it.

Nah, there's just no hype or excitement around it because... well, because it's Federation Force.

It's dead to me though :P

@charizard1605: Waiting till E3 is fine. Frankly, it's the best way to do it. A new console sucks all the air out of the room.

This leaves less than five months for the hype cycle. It's never been done before. Plus Nintendo also end up having to compete for headlines with whatever Sony and co. show, as opposed to grabbing them for themselves as they might at a dedicated event.

That is exactly why they need to do it. It's not that they'd be competing for headlines, it's that they'd be competing in general.

Confidence in Nintendo feels like it's at an all-time low. They appear to be growing more niche, and some people see (or are beginning to see) them as irrelevant. They have new initiatives yet to put into play to regain that marketshare, and while this may not be a make it or break it time for Nintendo in any fiscal sense it is a time where we are going to see some change of course in strategy with what they've been doing for so long, and it's undoubtedly a period when they are going to be watched and judged by many in what direction that will be. The NX is going to be a large part of that, and there's no better opportunity than E3 to put a press conference and make a statement to Sony, MS, and the audience that they've entered the ring again. I don't understand what this hesitation of going head-to-head with Sony and MS is, as if Nintendo is incapable or has something to fear. They have everything at their disposal to put up one hell of a fight, and should use E3 as one means of openly embracing it.

Analysts expect Miitomo, developed in partnership with mobile-game platform operator DeNA Inc., to contribute little to earnings. It will be free to download and built around communications features, meaning users won’t spend a lot for add-on items in a race for high scores.

Analysts have been watching for indications of how Nintendo’s mobile game will interact with a next-generation system that Nintendo has under development, code-named NX.

Mr. Kimishima said Tuesday that the company will provide an update “not too late in the course of this year.”

Analysts expect Nintendo NX to be unveiled in spring, with a possible release in October or November.

“Nintendo’s NX and smartphone games will be a test case for the videogame industry’s trend of trying to merge smart-device games and console-based games,” said Junko Yamamura, an analyst at Nomura Securities.

So... E3?

Why the **** would you wait till E3? Nintendo, what are you doing?

E3 Reveal for a late 2016 release? Yeah, good luck with that Nintendo. I'm sure that's enough time to build up hype for your new console that needs desperately to succeed...............

Simple, it means they would only have about 5 months to build up hype for the console. Unless Nintendo plans a huge marketing campaign for the NX this won't be good at all.

If sony any MS waited until E3 to reveal their console I do not think it would of impacted their sales from where they are now. They hype was already there long before the reveal of these system the only thing the reveal did was validate the hype. The NX has been building up sense March of 2015 and it just keeps increasing. It also has been rumored that nintendo is doing something in april so we shall see.

They should probably do it before E3 to beat the leaks. But waiting until E3 won't be the end of the world either.

@REVOLUTIONfreak: Cause E3 is the time to announce big things, most companies announce their consoles there. If they go to e3, everyone would be expecting nx news

Just some random thoughts...the dev kits haven't been out for the NX very long right? And it takes years to make games now because of HD. Pricing will be important for the NX. Sony and Microsoft have expensive consoles but the most games that go to the bargain bin quickly. Nintendo has less expensive consoles but games that stay expensive forever. I hope the pricing for Nintendo games comes way down. I really don't think it is about power, but instead I think it is about bargain bin games. I hope the NX is not greater than $250 for the home console.

Dev kits have been out since E3 2014 for preferred partners, and since E3 2015 for the industry at large.

@REVOLUTIONfreak:

Nintendo is holding their cards. It's clear they have something g up their sleeves, something they do not want copied by the others during its launch period.

@aigis: But that's five months from now. It's still perfectly reasonable to assume they'll host their own event before then. Especially given their tendency to be low-key during E3 the past few years anyway.

@REVOLUTIONfreak: All of their other consoles have been announced at e3 it would be foolish of Nintendo to have a Nintendo direct instead. E3 is a larger event that will attract more eyes from all platforms and Nintendo needs these people. The only low-key e3's have been during the wii u lifespan and look were thats got them

Ports don't take years to make. 1 year should be enough time to do proper ports of multiplatform games.

Yeah, in the past they made hardware announcements at E3 a year before release date.. The NX is a 2016 release, well at least one of the NX systems, so they are cutting it close between initial reveal and launch.

Ya, I think they are trying to generate a lot of hype and push it out quickly to make up some ground this gen...

It makes sense that ports would take less time, but they didn't help the Wii U much. Though there may have been some ports that sold really well-I don't know for sure. Will people care about ports that have been out for awhile on other platforms?

We'd need to see the better versions of games on the NX for it to really matter. Or the difference between a Nintendo NX and a PS5 needs to be so small that next generation games may just as well be played on the NX. I wouldn't even know how to secure their support without throwing money at them.

Hmm.
If they can have a better online community than MS/Sony that could automatically make their versions of games better I guess. Like the achievement system did for MS.
