Maby not this gen, but eventually, when all the casuals and 12 year old girls get tired of the wii, they will wonder where all there true fanbase went. It might not happen untill next gen but when it does, I for one won't be around to bail them out.

What happened to you Nintendo? Its so sad to see you sell out for the almighty $.

Im sure all of the 'casuals' or whatever you want to call them couldn't give a flying fudge about Nintendo's old fanbase.

Or maby when the most hardcore game they introduced at E3 was Pikmin 3 which was only mentioned and not even shown.

Or maby when they made a system with no hd grafix and a total gimmick for a remote

Or maby when Reggie said 4 games a year for the core gamer should be enough

 @ the hardcore acting like jilted ex-girlfriends.

Nintendo has betrayed no one. If you're even the tiniest bit objective, you would notice that with their previous releases and future releases.

Well the hardcore was abandoning them for years anyway. Nes had most sales, Snes had less, N64 had less again, GC had the least.

I don't think they'll be running out of customers for the Wii anytime soon anyway.

They've offered more games than with their previous systems.

Read this thread.

I want to know how many of you have been playing nintendo games scince the NES? Im talking about being over 25 years old here and actually growing up in the NES and SNES era NOT THE N64 era?

I dont see how you could appreciate this gen from nintendo if you are a hardcore gamer that likes to play ALOT of games.

They will find new casuals and new kids. There will always be causals and kids. Besides, we were expecting they would get tired of the Wii a long time ago (it was supposed to be a fad), but that hasn't happened yet.

- Brawl
- Super Mario Galaxy
- Metroid Prime 3
- Legend of Zelda: TP
- Battalion Wars 2
- Super Paper Mario
- Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn
- Mario Kart Wii
- Disaster Day of Crisis
- Animal Crossing: City Folk
- Wario Land: Shake It!
- WiiWare

All that in the first two years from Nintendo alone.

2009 brings more titles like:
- Dynamic (new IP)
- Sin and Punishment 2
- Punch Out!! Wii
- Wii MotionPlus
- They announced I think two other new IPs at the Nintendo event
- Pikmin 3 is on its way
- Zelda team is working on Zelda, part of the team were working on Wii Fit and Wii Music but now are back to work on the new Zelda.

So really I fail to see your arguement here of them betraying their hardcore because of a mere five games geared towards casuals:
- Wii Sports
- Wii Play
- Wii Fit
- Wii Music
- Wii Sports: Resort

I didn't even BEGIN to mention the third party offerings like:
- World of Goo
- Mega Man 9
- No More Heroes
- Sonic and The Secret Rings
- Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles
- Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
- Zack and Wiki
- De Blob
- No More Heroes
- Little King's Story
- Fragile
- Muramasa: The Demon Blade
- Capcom vs
- MadWorld
- The Conduit
- Arc Rise Fantasia
- Spore Wii
- Monster Hunter 3
- The House of The Dead Overkill
- ETC.

As a Wii owner, I feel so betrayed

And they've offered more games at this point in time, than at the same point in time of their other consoles.

Why do you keep ignoring this?

You say you want more games, they've given you more.

Pretending you're 25 years old isn't making your argument any more logical.

See here's the thing. I have always purchased nintendo's systems to play NINTENDO"S Games. If I want good third party support i will stick to my ps3 and xbox. But nintendo now only releases about 5 games a year In house (Or at least 5 in house games of any intrest).

When someone used to ask if I could only own one system this gen what would it be, my answer always used to be Nintendo!

Because i didnt want to be without my zelda, mario, metroid, etc etc. But now.................. I just feel betrayed.

Im sure the hardcore nintendo fans will argue to the death about this but thats just my opinion. And mark my words:

Nintendo in the same form as it is today will not be around for another 20 years

When did they betray the hardcore?

grimhope

When they decided to make New games like wii music instead of new ips that have depth and substance.

Who says Wii Music doesn't have substance. It has more depth than many 'hardcore' games I've seen.

Or maby when the most hardcore game they introduced at E3 was Pikmin 3 which was only mentioned and not even shown.

Wow, E3 isn't what it is anymore (hopefully it might change back) their show was meant to impress developers and investors, not you.

Or maby when they made a system with no hd grafix and a total gimmick for a remote

The majority of TVs in homes, even now, are SD. As for the remote, who says a gimmick is a bad thing. It's proved itself superior to standard controllers in many genres.

Or maby when Reggie said 4 games a year for the core gamer should be enough

Name one other company that is making four core games a year, all by itself, while still handling the production and management of piles of hardware, and about half as many casual games, all at the same time.

Need i go on?

Yes, apparently you do need to go on.

The mainstream public/casuals are fickle. Sure, they're all over Wii/DS now, but you'd have to be foolish to think that it'll last forever. It might take another generation, it might take two, but eventually the mainstream appeal of Nintendo will wear off again, just like it did in the mid-90's.

The point is that there is a ton of Nintendo software out there, even if only a few interest you, its not Nintendo's fault.

Not everyone is going to have the same taste. If it doesnt appeal to you Nintendo is not going to go out for just you and what you like.

Nintendo is making big bucks and thats all a company cares about. If Nintendo continues the same strategy for 20 years, appealing to people who don't play games and getting a huge market, you can be sure they will still be around.

A joke? Nintendo is taking over what sony started with the PS1 and PS2.

Be glad this is happening.

Am I being completely crazy here when I say that five in-house games a year sounds like a LOT?

The mainstream public/casuals are fickle. Sure, they're all over Wii/DS now, but you'd have to be foolish to think that it'll last forever. It might take another generation, it might take two, but eventually the mainstream appeal of Nintendo will wear off again, just like it did in the mid-90's.

V_Isle

If you understand the blue ocean strategy, you wouldn't be saying this. The idea is to use bridge games like Mario Kart to entice some of the casuals into more hardcore games.

I am curious, how did they betray their fanbase? They have released a slew of some of the highest rated games this gen.. if anything the people who are to blame its the 3rd party..

No, I dont think so.

First off all I have a lot of thing that keep me from buying a lot of games per year.
1. University
2. Time
3. Money

5-8 games a year is pretty much what I'd consider good enough for myself.

So you expect a single company to be making a dozen or so games a year? Quality over quantity IMO.

Oops. I thought you were saying that you didn't think that five in-house games sounded like a lot. :(

At least I gave this topic some new life by filling it with people screaming. "No, he's agreeing with you." :P

I have seen more fickleness among so-called "hardcore" gamers in System Wars than I have ever seen among "casual" gamers and the general public in my whole life. Look at the "hype" threads and the "flop" threads to see the hardcore fickleness in action.

You do understand that Nintendo was already paying for ignoring the casual crowd with the GC......Right?

With only 20 million in sales moslty only the hardcore Nintendo fans got the GC.

I'm selling my wii, i'm really bored with it.

I stood outside in freezing weather for 8 hours, and this is what i get. I won't be back.
