Exactly, the Wii is a joke.
The mainstream public/casuals are fickle. Sure, they're all over Wii/DS now, but you'd have to be foolish to think that it'll last forever. It might take another generation, it might take two, but eventually the mainstream appeal of Nintendo will wear off again, just like it did in the mid-90's.

Why did you mention the DS? :?

But Nintendo said they're never releasing another game. There will be no new Zelda, no new Mario, no new Pikmin, no new Metroid.... say it ain't so!?!?
Maby not this gen, but eventually, when all the casuals and 12 year old girls get tired of the wii, they will wonder where all there true fanbase went. It might not happen untill next gen but when it does, I for one won't be around to bail them out.

They're a business. And they're still going to come out with a good Zelda game next time around at least. Have some faith, gamers are so critical and insecure.
Nintendo gave us "The Holy Trinity" within two years. Any self-respected gamer should be praising them for being able to produce outstanding games in such different genres.
Super Mario Galaxy --------------------------------------------------
Metroid Prime 3 Corruption ------------------------------------------
The legend of ZeldaTwilight Princess -------------------------------
RESPECT!!!!!
The Wii is worth it for retroness alone imo. locopatho
I have to agree.I would keep my Wii just based on the GC backwards compatibility and Virtual Console alone.
I'm not knocking the fact that Nintendo pulled out a lot of titles, I'm disappointed about how the majority of the games are horrible. On the other end of the spectrum, I love the DS, there are more than enough titles all around to satisfies almost all gaming types. Also, it's the third parties who are pushing the bar on the handheld rathar than Nintendo. Plus, professor Layton is awesome. Everybody loves the Professor. He's not even the "hardcore" type and he's still loved. That's aweosme. The prof is awesome. Go Layton! ^_^

How are they horrible? Which ones are horrible? If there are good ones, why do you care about the horrible ones?

Agreed. A lot of gamers are too whiny, sensitive and picky. I know I enjoyed those 3 titles very much and i'm looking forward to quite a few games in the Wii's future.

Yup yup. I agree.
we got zelda TP, metroid prime 3, SSBB, super mario galaxy and a handful of others
all of the above are excellent games IMO .. we've had to wait a bit for them, but they haven't disappointed me
nintendo will continue to release similar games .. the rumoured kid icarus, pikmin 3 and hopefully starfox, f-zero etc
fans just need patience because nintendo can't churn out quality so quickly, and it's not totally their fault that 3rd party devs aren't releasing quality games themselves
some are angry at games like wii fit, wii sports and wii music .. i don't think these drain too much of the resources used for zelda, mario etc development .. they're new teams (only miyamoto's talent is being slightly wasted IMO)
you can't blame them for this when it brings so many sales and so much money .. money that'll ultimately go into R&D, and be invested in the future
so much money means that if they want to, nintendo can release a powerful console next gen, and sell at a loss without worry, or increase the budgets for their big titles, or improve their online
just be a bit patient if you can .. i understand if you just own one console, it'd be hard to soley own a wii .. a 360 or PS3 might be a better choice because of their own games collections
but don't just hate on nintendo
I kinda agree. I doubt they can pull off the "Wii miracle" twice in a row, and if they try Sony and MS will prolly be there sticking their spoons in the soup as well, making things a lot harder for Ninty.
If they wanna succeed next gen they're gonna need the core gamers too, and right now those core gamers are playing on 360/PS3, bonding with Live/PSN communities etc. making them more likely to choose the same company's console next gen as well.
No they won't... the non-gamer market makes them more money than the hardcore market ever did.foxhound_fox
No they won't what? You're completely wrong about that last part. They sold 80 million NES consoles back in the day to hardcore gamers. The casual market hasn't gotten them there yet, but it's completely false the statement you made.
Many people here seem to forget we are talking about a company that, besides being the oldest in the console race, managed to single-handedly go from "certain death" in the GC era (with people actually disscussing about buying them at the time), to reign supreme in the next generation.
They are the smartest company in the industry and they wont let the competition take the lead without one hell of a fight. Miyamoto and Iwata already said they wont just make upgraded consoles each generation, they want to bring something new each timeto keep things fresh and exciting.
Also, about the casual market, dont you think they know how unpredictable the casual market is? I mean, if even we can reach that conclusion dont you think they already know this from the start. It may sound cliche and silly to some but they really are trying to make games for everyone, and they WONT dedicate themselves to the casual market. The blue ocean strategy isnt about that at all.
[QUOTE="AlexSays"][QUOTE="grimhope"]Didnt say they didnt make some previously good games. I loved Mario galaxy, Its my GOTY. Zelda was launch day, Metroid was nice, Brawl i personally dont care for....................But what else is there? Its been TWO YEARS and you give me 4 games?

They've offered more games than with their previous systems.
Read this thread.
It's not Nintendo's fault you don't like them.
Who's fault is it then? Im 30 years old and have been a staunch nintendo supporter scince the NES! You are what 18-20 and started playing games in the N64 era? Dont tell me its not nintendo's fault I dont like them anymore, Its COMPLETLY THERE FAULT!
It's all your fault, you are not a teenager anymore so it's normal that the type of games that gave you alot of joy back in the NES and SNES era doesn't appeal you anymore since now you are an "adult" and now you want "mature" games where you can find cursing, swearing, blood baths, violence and sex.
I am sorry, but being a gamer since the NES era you should know very well that Nintendo doesn't make "mature" games, they make family games and entertainment games, the same games that you play when you were a kid, so it's not Nintendo's fault that you don't like those games anymore.
Sorry dude, suck it up and buy a 360 or a PS3 instead, you are to "mature" for a Wii.
P.S. I have been playing since the NES era too and I have no problems with my Wii and my games!

Except its usually teens and not adults who drool themselves on cursing, blood baths, and sex.

Non-gamers will just buy a Wii for Wii Sports and call it a day. How is that making Nintendo money?
Also Casual Gamers =/= Non-Gamers
I don't think they "betrayed" the hardcore market yet. However their focus should be on more core friendly games rather then nonsense like Wii Music. They got the non-gamer/casual sales, now is the time to go strickly hardcore.
Casuals carried Sony for two gens in a row, Nintendo wont mind that kind of success and it isnt like they arent still producing games. You have a SSB, a Mario platformer, a Wario game, a Zelda, a Mario Kart... What, do you expect a sequel each month?! Besides, Nintendo already lost the top market share once before so they should have learned from their failures.Sig12047
Casual game carried sony!?!?....No, thats just wrong Know what carried sony? ......Innovation.....The first playstation was something new and disc's allowed cutscenes
and the ps2, was just an improved playstation with online and suchm
but the ps brand had so many good series from Hardcore games to kid games, Sony had a game for anyone who wanted to play not just the casual market
The Variety is what carried sony for two gens not the casual market

Wow, even if that were true, how do you explain the 60 million that the SNES sold. Are you really going to argue that it was the casuals and peripherials too? Please, most games on the NES are more hardcore than the games of today. Don't even go there.
Nintendo has always prayed on the 12 year old girls...They have never had a hardcore market....You just used to be alot younger when you liked their games....All_that_is_Man
You really have no clue what you're talking about, either you are a troll, a fanboy or a very young kid, it may sound a cliche but Nintendo saved the videogames with the NES and they didnt do it with just 12 old girls fanbase, lots of gamers today above 18 - 20 years start playing in the NES era, and lots of gamers above 25 - 30 years old were the "Hardcore" fanbase from those days.
Maby not this gen, but eventually, when all the casuals and 12 year old girls get tired of the wii, they will wonder where all there true fanbase went. It might not happen untill next gen but when it does, I for one won't be around to bail them out.

I think that a lot of the true 'hardcore' Nintendo fans probably live on through the PC. I mean, you can emulate games from almost all of the old-school Ninty platforms from the NES to the N64. So people think, "why not take advantage of the means to play some of the greatest games ever" instead of investing in the Wii and the VC. But, in hindsight given Nintendo's dominance of this gen, it seems emulation and/or piracy probably can't even dent the Wii's success. If the lack of hardcore games this gen hurts Nintendo in the next gen remains to be seen.

When they decided to make New games like wii music instead of new ips that have depth and substance.
Or maby when the most hardcore game they introduced at E3 was Pikmin 3 which was only mentioned and not even shown.
Or maby when they made a system with no hd grafix and a total gimmick for a remote
Or maby when Reggie said 4 games a year for the core gamer should be enough

even you want to hate Nintendo at least do it right!!the most hardcore game announced was ZELDA NOT pikmin 3, Nintendo didn't have a very bad E3, but the lack of footage is what hurt the game really. Nevertheless it was zelda that was "the hardcore" game, not pikmin or mario (both were announced as well....... Where the hell are you getting this betrayal nonsense?)

Actually Im neither and Im talking about the 2000 Era yeah its pretty nice....we've kinda been in it for 8 years now...
A company should only be based off a 10 years period in that time lots has changed and nintendo's focus ...within the last ten years has been on The younger fanbase.......and you could deny it all you want, but it would be futile
Because deep down we all know its true...Just look at the gamecube and the DS and reflect upon those

Okay, maybe not 80 million, but the fact remains that much of the NES's market was the non-gamers. Titles like Mario or Gyromite were bridge titles that got people more interested in more complex games.
Oh please spare me with this whole Nintendo will pay for disrespecting the hardcore gamers crap. Video games are for everyone not just some small minority of gamers. Nintendo could care less if you like what they are doing or not . you can not do anything to stop Nintendo. ive been playing video games since the 80s also.
Hardcore in the adult industry= uncensored.
idk what you guys are considering hardcore in the videogame industry, but the word popped up in the console industry back when mortal kombat and night trap came out for the genesis and sega cd to describe these 2 games, so im not going to tiptoe around this issue, because in all reality, its always meant uncensored.
night trap was even called pornography by a senator, even though there was no nudity.
and im not a teenager, but i still think of a hardcore videogame as one that shows extreme violence, nudity, language, or one that people have actually died playing (WoW)
and nintendo has never offered any of this other than resident evil 4, because nintendo is a family friendly console, always has been, always will be.
so those that like to throw "hardcore" around like ive been seeing, i laugh when i see "OMG SMG IS SOOO FREAKING HARDCORE" because, ive never seen mario curse, or princess peach nude, or luigi get decapitated. even though id like to, it would be hilarious.
but i didnt buy my wii (or any nintendo system for that matter) for the so called "hardcore" titles, i bought it for nintendos first party titles (seeing nintendo did 3rd parties wrong around the snes era and it hasnt had a good library of 3rd part titles since then) nintendo consoles have always been casual friendly, no matter how many fanboys cry about it.

Haziqonfire
- Brawl
- Super Mario Galaxy
- Metroid Prime 3
- Legend of Zelda: TP
- Battalion Wars 2
- Super Paper Mario
- Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn
- Mario Kart Wii
- Disaster Day of Crisis
- Animal Crossing: City Folk
- Wario Land: Shake It!
- WiiWare
All that in the first two years from Nintendo alone.
2009 brings more titles like:
- Dynamic (new IP)
- Sin and Punishment 2
- Punch Out!! Wii
- Wii MotionPlus
- They announced I think two other new IPs at the Nintendo event
- Pikmin 3 is on its way
- Zelda team is working on Zelda, part of the team were working on Wii Fit and Wii Music but now are back to work on the new Zelda.
So really I fail to see your arguement here of them betraying their hardcore because of a mere five games geared towards casuals:
- Wii Sports
- Wii Play
- Wii Fit
- Wii Music
- Wii Sports: Resort
I didn't even BEGIN to mention the third party offerings like:
- World of Goo
- Mega Man 9
- No More Heroes
- Sonic and The Secret Rings
- Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles
- Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
- Zack and Wiki
- De Blob
- No More Heroes
- Little King's Story
- Fragile
- Muramasa: The Demon Blade
- Capcom vs
- MadWorld
- The Conduit
- Arc Rise Fantasia
- Spore Wii
- Monster Hunter 3
- The House of The Dead Overkill
- ETC.
As a Wii owner, I feel so betrayed
I love when a Wii defender shows a large list of games.

Nintendo hasn't changed, they are doing what they have always done. The only difference it the controller...BTW the Wii saved Nintendo, if they went along with MS and Sony again they be dead.
Nintendo should actually be commended for blurring the line between hardcore and casual so well. And while Q3/Q4 2008 hasn't been huge for Nintendo, I'm still enjoying my Wii more and more.
Wiiware, for example, has gone from having the worst to arguably having the best games in the last 6 or so weeks. Not bad.
PS And lets not sit here and talk about how the Xbox360 and PS3 are sooooo "hardcore". Hardcore gaming is dead this generation as far as I'm concerned.
