[QUOTE="WomanDog"]GC sold 30 million based on it franchises, and those franchises are much more popular after the Wii/DS generation. Not to mention there's more of them such as NSMB, Braintraining ect. The GameCube sold 22 million units, and had to stop production for six months due to too much in stock, which this happened just after Wind Waker, Sunshine, Prime to be fair.Gamecube

Gamecube. N64. I agree that Nintendo franchises are more popular than ever, and that Mario+Mario Kart alone will sell about 20 million Wii Us, but Nintendo really needs to secure third party support, or this thing will be stillborn.charizard1605Dude your not a good sheep.

I'm not sure I follow you here.If the Ps4 really doesn't come out until 2014, that could be bad for the Wii U.

Which is why Nintendo is targeting the HARDCOREAll down to the PRICE of the Wii:U.

I meant to say, that could be bad for the Wii U's 3rd party support. The Ps4 coming out a year later then we thought would mean the power gap between the two consoles would get even bigger, and we know what happened with the Wii.
Pure speculation of course, the Wii U could be a monster and Sony probably doesn't want to bleed money with the Ps4 from the start.
They need to build a serious relationship with 3rd party developers before that can ever happen, which I doubt. Sony and MS already have that locked down. And even 3DS and Vita.
Keep dreaming

Even if your scenario is correct, it would not matter as long as the Xbox 720 is in the same ballpark as the Wii U, power wise. Third parties in that case will want to develop for the Wii U/720 and then just port the games as they are to the PS4 with minimal additions and enhancements. Like a reverse PS2-GCN/Xbox scenario.I would say that it depends upon the quality of the games that they will be releasing for their legacy franchises.
One of the big selling points of the Nintendo consoles is the fact that you can pretty much guarantee that you'll see a AAA Mario game or two soon after the console is released. These games are usually the reason so many people adopt the console in the first place and I see this happening again for the WiiU. But they need to make it THE console to own if that's going to happen again.

Ah, true. I just want all 3 consoles to share all multiplats, regardless of graphical differences.
Same here, although if that DID happen, Nintendo's system would become the system to own, basically. The only reason that I (and I suspect this is true for many other people too) have ever bought the non Nintendo systems is because I would have missed out on tird party games otherwise. If a Nintendo system could be guaranteed of all the third party support PLUS Nintendo's own first party support, then it would become the go to console, easily.

Maybe, but not for sure. The Ps4 will still put up a fight regardless.
As for it becoming the go to console, that depends on the audience. :P

Nintendo managed to make the N64 the hardcore gamer's console in North America. If they brand and position this one right, we could be looking at the next PS2, or at the very least, the next SNES, which, like phonemug said, is very fapworthy.
[QUOTE="CajunShooter"][QUOTE="phonemug"]GC sold 30 million based on it franchisesphonemugGamecube only sold a little over 21 million. My bad... but my point still stands. Unfortunately for Nintendo, there is a decent size part of their userbase that bought Wiis because of the novelty of it (older people). Not sure if they will convince these people who only played Wii Sports to go out and buy another console when they hardly touch their Wiis. This is evident by the Wii having the lowest attach rate of the 3 systems as well as the lowest avg time that users play their Wiis.
seems like i agree with people here, Wii U couldl top out at 40mill, but i need to c it some more, its going the direction of the gamecube...they need to stick to the casual market like the wiiwinner-ps3This has to be the first generation ever where people are saying successor to the console that sold roughly 100 million will "top out" at 40 million. People always doubt Nintendo and it always bites them in the ass in the end.

Sony will still have Guerrilla and Santa Monica, those two alone match Ninty's Mario and Zelda teams (At Guerrilla's best, at least). Then there's still Sucker Punch, but Insomniac will most likely go multiplatform completely, and Team ICO is probably going to go under.
It's true though, Nintendo's first party will beat out Sony's next gen but it'll still be close.
The Wii U'll probably be the first console I get out of the 2.

The thing is, at its best, Nintendo's first party is damn unbeatable. On the Wii U, they will shine. The question with Sony is, will they continue with the huge stable of varied IPs that they have established this gen? Or will they start over (again)?
I'll be getting the Wii U at launch. Nintendo in HD... CURSE YOU NINTENDO Of course, when the price is dropped six months later due to sluggish sales, I will be very sad. I hope that the 10 free N64 games and 10 free GCN games that they offer as compensation though will make me happy.

Sony'll have a mix of new and old IP's just like this gen.

Thank you for such a non nonsense argument.
Let's be fair, the Mario team (EAD Toky) is VERY consistent. I mean, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Super Mario 3D Land? That's some consistency right there. The Mario and Zelda teams are far from consistent.

I hope Sony keeps their IPs, they have a good stable, and if they hope to one day compete with Nintendo in that department, they need to stop ditching their franchises.
And no, I really wish I did though :(

Is that the same team that made Sunshine as well though? And, it'd be pretty damn hard to mess up a sequel consisting of the exact same gameplay albeit with many new idea's and levels.
Either way, Nintendo's teams always do different projects, and I was referring to all the teams that work on the games, not just one team.
