I don't like this, nope, not one bit and think it's a mistake

They should at least make it optional to use a traditional controller :o Agree ?

The Story

--

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword's motion control scheme is here to stay, series boss Eiji Aonuma has said.

Despite initial misgivings about requiring players to use the Wii Remote's MotionPlus attachment, Aonuma now believes buttons are a thing of the past for the Zelda series.

"I honestly think we cannot go back to button controls now", Aonuma revealed in a new ONM interview (via Kotaku). "So I think that these controls will be used in future Zelda titles, too."

Nintendo demonstrated a Zelda "experience" for the Wii U during its unveiling at E3 this year.

The Wii U's tablet controller was used as a touch-screen inventory.

Will players be asked to use a Wii Remote Plus and tablet controller together? Or will the inevitable Wii U incarnation include better usage of the tablet, too?

Zelda games for handheld systems will presumably keep the series' classic button controls. After this year's re-release of Ocarina of Time, the next 3DS Zelda gamewill be all-new, Aonuma recently said.

I'm glad they're keeping it. Skyward Sword is one of the few games I can list where motion controls actually benefited the experience. They aren't perfect, but I can't imagine playing it (and a future Zelda game) without them.

Apparently ? I dunno, I guess it will be backward compatible but again, that's okay but they should make it playable with a standard controller - Zelda WW played on Wii with standard controller FTW. :P

Good. For a series so old, they should always be trying new things, even if hardcore fans just want Ocarina of Time 3.0.

I don't think Zelda's the type of game to do something like that. It's either built for certain controls (standard or motion, pick ONE), or it isn't. I think Zelda being an action-adventure game with a lot of content kind of sets that up.

Also, have you seen on how Skyward Sword's motion controls work? There is no way in hell a standard controller would work for that game.

They haven't made an Ocarina 2.0 yet. So...

And no, I just don't want motion controls. I want the series to go in the direction of Majora's Mask.

I fully understand that adding duel options for control would involve a bit more effort ( not too much to map motion actions to standard control buttons, triggers, sticks IMO ) but I think we're worth the extra effort. :P

I'm thinking of something along the lines of Twilight Princess except the Wii version allows use of the Gamecube controller.

Twilight Princess couldn't be more different than Ocarina. Besides the core mechanics that every Zelda game shares.

And Ocarina 3d is the *exact* same game.

No it isn't.

The dungeons have absolutely nothing in common structure and design wise.

It has the best level design and weapons period, of any Zelda.

EDIT: It does pay homage in the overworld but they are VERY different.

I think it has to do with balancing more than anything. In theory adding more options is nice, but sometimes this comes at the expense of the intended system, which would most likely be the case if they tacked on traditional controller support.

Skyward Sword has the best motion controls achieved as of yet in gaming. The problem with motion controls in Skyward Sword is sometimes they are too accurate, if YOU don't swing right then link won't either

i'd bet 10 bucks (because i refuse to bet more, regardless of the situation :P) that the wii u will come bundled with at least one wiimote plus and one nunchuk. and the tablet too, of course. as for how they'll do it, who knows.

Yes, it really is. Other than the overworld structure (Which is about 4x the size of Ocarina) and the number of Temples.

Calling it Ocarina 2.0 isn't a negative, when it takes level design and gameplay to a whole new level, just saying.

And that's without noting the dark tone and atmosphere that Ocarina lacks.

But please, continue.

Ocarina was pretty dark too once you got to the "future" with adult Link. And you are talking to someone who beat TP twice, and hasn't finished any other 3D Zelda even once all the way through. The overall tone of TP is very similar to OoT. It might differ in some specific areas, but that isn't the point. Ocarina fanboys keep begging for OoT 2.0 (they were really upset with MM) and even as close as TP got to OoT, they still complained it wasn't OoT repackaged. My WHOLE POINT is that Nintendo needs to keep doing WW and MM like games, mixing up the formula and tone so that it never gets stale. And TP reminded me very much of OoT. You might not feel the same way, but I'm not a Zelda fanatic who knows absolutely everything about every game in extreme detail. Other than Midna and the Twilight/Wolf segments, it felt almost like the same game.

I've beaten TP more than 5 times.

Look, if you're saying it's like an Ocarina 2.0 in the way the game is structured, as in progression in the overworld, then yes, that's true. And that's fine. Who cares?

If you're talking about the tone, and the atmosphere, and the overall visual and audio design, then no, they couldn't be any more different like I said.

The point I was trying to make that even if it's similar in certain area's to Ocarina (And even then, come on, it's a Zelda game afterall) it's still very much it's own unique design. And I go back to the incredible level design and items as I said before that makes it even more different.

Yes, On that note I agree. Making each Zelda as unique as possible should be the focus.

I agree with foxhound_fox here. Twilight Princess felt like a sequel to OoT more so than Wind Waker (an actual sequel to OoT). It still was a great game, but I'm enjoying Skyward Sword far more because it feels completely new. The "new" feeling in Twilight Princess started to wear off a few dungeons in.

I'm glad. SS would of been entirely different with DA as a control option. This is the first 3d zelda ever to have a decent battle system.

Uhhh I think people are over analyzing this a little too much (o what a surprise) I do agree that Zelda should not go back to traditional controls. SS controls were the freshest experience I've had in a Zelda game since MM. They are fantastic, however notice that he said "Motion Controls," he did not specifically say the Wii mote...From obvious observation, we have no idea what the Wii-U tablet (or the Wii-U) is truly capable of yet. For all we know, it could be motion controls with traditional button lay out.

I'm sorry, but i felt that the new motion plus controls made the game slower, because you couldn't swing your sword very fast, otherwise Link would just randomly slash around. In some cases he wouldn't do the movements I did at all, which frustrated the poo out of me and sometimes he did the exact opposite of what I did with my Wii mote! So while I liked the basic idea of it, I thought it wasn't very well done. In my opinion Twilight Princess just was the better game and thus I'm not happy about the development the Zelda series is going through.

This, people just want to be anal but Twilight princess is very different than Ocarina. They share the same race of people and same zelda mechanics and that's it. The combat especially in twilight princess is superb compared to the one in Ocarina... so it's an improvement. The story is very different also.

@topic

I don't like the Idea of a motion controlled zelda it's like it's going to be holding back mechanics of a zelda game that can't be properly done with motion controls. No wonder the Zelda Creator is abandoning Nintendo pfff

The controls are a highlight for me in SS; absolutely delightful.

Good. After beating SS, I have no idea why anyone would want to go back.

SecretPolice

I really hope they don't go back.

Motion control in Skyward Sword was actually a stop forward in game control, that's one of the first times I actually been convinced of that on Wii, not a step backward.

I really don't want to play a new Zelda game where the sword strikes are just button presses again.
