The original Xbox is ugly, but at the time when components were big and garish (Think of the boom boxes of the day) it was a good design.
The ps5 was built in a time where minimalism has taken over the “tv room”. Amps and TVs have very few buttons on the front, and the standard colour is black.
Why Sony would want to purposefully make the ps5 an eyesore is beyond me....it’s hideous.
The disc drive looks like an afterthought, and the wings actually make it bigger than it needs to be. Just the fact that you need tools to flip it horizontally is laughable.
Still, they must be listening to the comments and I expect a much more minimalist ps5 slim.
Not only is it huge, it's incredibly ugly as well. Sony outdid themselves this time. Haven't seen such terrible design since their boomerang PS3 controllers.

Both consoles are ugly, in a non-traditional way. I don't care though, as I'll have them off to the side where they'll look like two towers in console city.

Yeah, I’m really not sure who all voted for this console design. It’s comical. And the controller looks and feels so good. What happened to the console design?!?!
The Series X looks better, but I’m not a fan of that design either from a aesthetic standpoint either. And functionally, the Series X wouldn’t fit in any of my media stands, while the PS5 fit just fine...
It’s whatever though. We finally got past the calculator watch CPUs and entered the realm of laptop CPUs. And the ssd’s are proving their worth as well. (Outside of capacity) They can give me an ugly box that has those things for $400-$500 and I’m happy.
That is SO much better. I have an all black entertainment shelf and a large TV, the series X slots right behing the TV to the right and fits the decor perfectly, the PS5 is in the middle of everything yelling like a drunk ex at a party. I am definitely going to be plati dipping mine as well

This, I finally broke down and bought a copy of Spidy Ultimate so I could have something to actually play on it. At least witht he Series X, I skipped Xbone and have tons of games I missed over there.

My PS5 and Series X arrived at the same time, I was pleasantly shocked to see how small the Series X was in hand and how seamlessly it fit in the entertainment center like it belongs there. I came close to selling my PS5 so many times it's not even funny, I can't stand the way it looks even beyond the size, the design of it just rubs me the wrong way. If MS managed to fit comparable power into it's compact cube, then what the hell is Sony doing?
I'll probably wait for third party plates because if I got one and tried to paint it myself it wouldn't turn out great. I probably won't be able to wait for the slim as there are 1st party games coming this year that I want to play.
I don’t mind the size, and think it looks futuristic and cool. The white is a good choice. Either way it plays amazing games, it’s not like your wearing it out in public.
Jesus Christ, that thing is absolutely enormous. I knew it was big, the biggest console ever released, but nothing could have prepared me when I saw it with my own eyes at my buddy's house.
That thing is by far the biggest and ugliest piece of crap I have ever seen. What was Sony thinking creating that monstrosity? I've had PC cases smaller than this (much smaller). As it stands, there is absolutely no way I'm buying the regular model. I'll wait for a slim.
The problem is this console is so damn big it actually IS a problem. It's not just something you can ignore. I can't even fit it in my cabinet and the other small table I got hasn't got enough space to accommodate it.

The original xbox came out at the same time as the PS2 so no dude there was no excuse for it being that big and the controller barely fitting in my hand was not a good design stop covering for them. No excuses.
The X-series x is basically what 1% less big and 1% less weight than the gigantic ps5? It's still friggin huge an weighs a crap ton too. Plus the x-series x looks like a trash bin and its not much or any better compared to good systems like the ps2 slim and such and looks and size.
Its going to sell less than the 360 and xb1 did in japan microsoft isn't improving its de evolving if you think about it xb1 sold like 1000 units over 8 years in japan and x-series x will do worse thats awful.
x-series x has no good games like the ps5 has demon souls and spiderman
Unless there's a "must play" at launch, I always wait at least a year or two. The only time as an adult I bought a console at launch was the Wii because I couldn't wait on Twilight Princess (and of course I had the game before the console, because it was a pain trying to get one.)

That makes it even worse for xbox if it came out after. The original Xbox controller was gigantic and they could have looked at what sony was doing with the dual shock 2 and instead just didn't give a crap about anyone and made something humongous controller that barely fit in my hands for no reason at all.
The Xbox wasn't that much more poewrful than the PS2 and who even cares xbox had no games cept Halo and Fable. Everything was on PS2 barely anything was on the xbox Final fantasy x and 12 metal gear solid 2 and 3 kingdom hearts was budokai dbz games even on xbox wth were you doing dude?

All that hardware and they couldnt even make a proper cooling solution for all the components. Not that its too big, but the form factor seems way too experimental and inefficient.
I will definitely wait for a revision where they can work some of the kinks out. Hopefully there will be something other than Demons Souls by then.

Morrowind, doom 3, ninja gaiden, half life 2, riddick, splinter cell and more. Halo already blew anything away on ps2, and halo 2 was even more next level.
Xbox’s 733 MHz processor blew the ps2’s 485 into oblivion.
There’s no debate here. Xbox was objectively way more powerful than ps2.

It looks horrendous, and the white color hurts my eyes. The series X looks boring as hell, but at least it doesn't stand out like a sore thumb. Great job to whoever painted his ps5 black. That looks much better. Kinda weird that Sony went with the white tbh.
Yeah, the thing is a beast. It's the first one I had to place vertical. I really wish they stuck with the black colour. I'm not going to waste my time or money getting it painted or replacing parts though. Once I'm playing games my focus is on the screen.

So true. Did you paint yours yourself or did you get it done somewhere? For a sec I thought you got lucky and got the PS2 themed PS5 from SUP3R5. They were sold out and then they started getting threats and had to refund everyone :(
@mtron32: Same here (with having a launch PS4 and never got a Pro). I never finished it due to my work load but I don't think I got too far. Was playing it on g mode and got stuck on this crazy wave of enemies so now I'm going to take the difficulty down a notch so i can actually enjoy it and play it on my PS5 :)
