Nice one Gears3!!! Oh that game seriously deserved those sales... PS3 is doing fairly good as well considering it isn't a contrast to Japan which i expected. Resistance 3 making the top 10 is pretty damn great too, nice to see that not everyone in america are fanboys :P

it does not matter. The sales are for US only. Ps3 did well. 360 did better.

Divine_Menace

I'm just saying because people are already claiming that it is because the 360 has more quality games and to spare lems of the shame of hyping worldwide sales until the official year reports come in :P

Japan lol that dying market... When was the last time a good game came out of Japan being serious here?

Dark Souls? Where have you being again? Oh you just mad that the 360 is already dead and buried in that region huh? Its only video games

The difference in sales worldwide for the year is going to be minor, unless some major change occurs in pricing.

Yeah it did great as usual.:P But it came out in late-August, so it's kind of expected.:P No.7 for Resistance 3 huh? Ouch.:(

Never played any of 'em bruh.

I ordered Dark Souls and Mass Effect 2 from Gamefly to keep me bussy until Uncharted 3 and Skyrim arrives, so I aint got no sympathy for insomniac. You alone on dis, mayne :P . I can suggest givin 'em something-something of a donation if you're that affected:P

Japan probably cancelled the difference in just one week and a half, actually. Between September 5th and 11th, the PS3 sold 64,786 units per Media Create and the 360 sold 1,219.

Regardless, the 360 remains top-dog in America and seems rather unstoppable in that region. What will dethrone it? Wii U? a $199 PS3 price cut next year?

More likely, probably nothing, because MS could price cut anytime they wanted/needed. The fact that they did nothing in reaction to the PS3's price cut was a sign of confidence that they already own America, and it turns out they were right.

Japan is a dying market, but it isn't dead yet. Can't see Japan being very viable next gen in the world of console gaming. They are extremely handheld focused it seems.

shinrabanshou

It's an improvement in the bigger picture. But it's actually down in weekly sales (5 week month vs 4 week August)

Interesting, I had completely forgotten about that. With that in mind, 235K in 4-week August + 260K in 5-week September = 495K over a period of 9 weeks.

Nintendo says they have sold 450,000 units following the August 12th price reduction. That means, in what accounts for nearly 2 weeks of August, pre-price cut, Nintendo sold only about ~45,000 units. The last 2 weeks of August, plus 2 days, they sold about ~190,000 3DS units. That's a rate around ~95K a week.

In September, they have averaged about ~52K a week. That seems like a big drop from the numbers they put up initially post-price cut.

(If anyone is curious: in this same time period the 3DS sold 291,320 units per Media Create.)

Japan doesn't equal the world either, the PS3 isn't dramatically outselling the 360 in Europe, in fact in some places the 360 has a advantage.

Even then it was premature. The UK market total revenue is smaller than the Japanese market, from recent figures. And even figures for 2009 (based on historic exchange rates as well I believe).

The UK market in 2009 was 3.3 billion GBP. The Japanese market in 2009 was 5.43 trillion yen.

dude its Gonna be much bigger than it was last year. 360 had the launch of Kinect to drive sales last november, they will not have a repeat performance at this year. Ps3 is gonna clean house in JPN and EU this christmas. and They will do better this year in the U.S due to the release of Uncharted 3 and a cheaper console.

I don't see that happening.

Last year they exceed MS by2.3 MM units worldwide for the year. All of that gap occured in Jan - Sep.They were dead even in Oct - Dec at 6.3 MM units each.

This year they will be in a virtual draw heading into Q4.

For the gain to be much bigger than last year Sony would have to outsell MS bymuch more than 2.3 MMunits in Q4 alone. That is not going to happen.

There's a reason why the PS3 keeps outselling the 360 worldwide in a year to year basis since it released and that's because, despite it loosing by a lot in NA, it sells way more in other places.

Don't let facts get in your way.

The 360 outsold the PS3 in annual year 2008 on a worldwide basis.

The 360 has outsold the PS3 worldwide the first 6 months YTD in 2011.

In a few weeks we will get the company Q3 reports which will likely show a 9 month deadheat due to the PS3 price drop.

In Q4 2010 they were exactly dead even.

When Q3 2011 is released we will see that the two companies have been in a virtual tie in the last 12 months (Oct 2010 - Sep 2011). There might be a slight winner, but the number is going to be small either way.

Incredible numbers for 360, and Gears of War 3's sales are also impressive. Nice to see Resistance 3 in the top ten, but I don't see it staying there next month.

The difference in sales worldwide for the year is going to be minor, unless some major change occurs in pricing.

SUD123456

dude its Gonna be much bigger than it was last year.

What i meant was (Oct -December this year) I Know they were tied last year. They were tied in Q4 last year.with a 500 million dollar campaign and the launch of the Kinect. They might not outsell them by 2.3 million in Q4, but i expect them to outsell M$ by atleast 300k-500k in Q3 (july-September)of this year. I expect them to outsell M$ by another 500k-750k in Q4 (Oct to December) Worldwide. These are my expectations anyways. (Microsoft has being down YOY since July this year in the U.S. (I expect the trend to continue into christmas.)M$ won't sell the 1.4 million they sold in November last year this year, and Sony will not sell the 580K they sold in november last year this year. They will sell more.

I wouldn't get too ahead of myself in predicting the quarterly numbers.

Why not, that's the only fun we have?

[QUOTE="kuraimen"][QUOTE="Brean24"]Japan doesn't equal the world either, the PS3 isn't dramatically outselling the 360 in Europe, in fact in some places the 360 has a advantage.SUD123456

One year out of ALL of this gen until now. That's why the PS3 has managed to come so close despite the year headstart of the 360.

That we pretty much never get any solid numbers from Europe makes things far too incomplete IMO for any substantive predictions.

I guess it is a language/semantics difference then.

MS is currently 500K ahead YTD.

If the upper end of your estimate is correct for Q3 then it will be a deadheat going into Q4 as I said.

If your estimate for Q4 is also correct then the total 2011 gain will be 500K-750K.

In my books, that kind of gain on a yearly basis is minor. With those sort of rates of sales this generation is going to end in a tie for last :)

And my way of thinking is that a few millions units either way on product sales of 75 million or so (when the generation really starts winding down) for each of them is meaningless. Although I am sure SW will battle to the end pretending even 10 units is meaningful :)

yea you are absolutely right. Either way. The lead is minuscle. Only good for fanboy battles and bragging rights.

I never got how one console outselling another is considered "bragging rights" for Fanboys.

We have tons of data from previous years. We have all sorts of current trend and YOY data etc. It is perfectly reasonable to make substantive predictions. Afterall, they are predictions.

Moreover, you missed the point of my last post. Fun. Keyword.
