[QUOTE="Nanomage"]Thanks for posting this, that´s great news for the PC gaming market, pre builts are garbage and people can just focus on actually building their systems with custom hardware, that market has been in higher demand than ever and it will only increase further in the future.Mr_BillGates
Nobody cares about custom build PC. All the money comes from prebuilds When that section is dying results into Windows 8 and Surface. Windows 9 will most like have Metro 2.0 and lesser desktop experience. Have fun gaming in Linux.

Yep,nobody but millions and millions of people, don´t be mad now, again thanks for posting, such great news for the gaming side of the PC market,no more people getting frustrated because their cappy prebuilts cant play games properly, great stuff.

PC gaming keeps getting better and better,as the number have been showing now moreso than before, and growing at an alarming rate.

PC gaming = Windows.

And Windows' present and future =

Linux for gaming? haha. No. PC gaming is actually turning worse as the platform it relies on abandons it.

Notice that funny 'Desktop' button, it really does lead back to the desktop. The OS is perfectly fine, it's just a faster Windows7. If you really can't take seeing the metro ui, you can download programs to replace it with a normal start menu.

its funny when people make threads thinking they have a valid point only to be laughed it.  Sometimes I wonder "did they honestly think what they posted was even remotely logical?"  If so that is just sad.  I hope you are trolling and your reasoning skills aren't really this poor.

stopped reading when i saw it included companies like DELL and HP etc.     I mean sure, yea pc is in decline for home use because of tablets and smart phones, but none of those pre-made garbage pc's were built for gaming so its not like it matters.       So i really fail to see how this effects pc gaming.

Lenovo's worldwide PC shipments were flat compared with a year ago. While its shipment growth rate exceeded the overall industry average, it was Lenovo's slowest growth since the first quarter of 2009. The slowdown was attributed to a shipment decline in Asia/Pacific, where more than 50 percent of Lenovo's PCs were shipped.

Dell also had a challenging quarter, registering a shipment decline in all regions except Japan. In Gartner's preliminary view, Dell's shipment growth in Japan was boosted by moderate demand, driven by a corporate refresh. Dell's discussions about a possible leveraged buyout impacted shipments, as competitors aggressively attacked Dell's position in the professional market.

In the U.S. market, PC shipments totaled 14.2 million units in the first quarter of 2013, a 9.6 percent decline from the first quarter of 2012 (see Table 2). It marked a record of six consecutive quarters of shipment declines.

You do realize that the gaming market has been self sufficient for years right?

The general PC market is dying, this is true. But every year performance parts sell a bit better than the last year. Gaming is self sufficent.

This is actually a good thing for PC gaming. PC devs won't have to cater to the lower denominator. Which is pre-built desktop PC's.

The data shows that consumer level PC sales fell and that this was due to increased competition by tablets and smartphones. Of course the sales decreased, this is expected. The data also showed that enthusiast PCs increased in sales.

The PC market isn't dying, it's just having some of it's market share taken over by tablets and smartphones, which are also affecting console sales.

That being said, I have to wonder if the PC might not be as in good of shape as some people here like to believe. I'm no expert, but aren't Intel and Nvidia basically the only two companies coming out with new PC architecture? I guess you could also say AMD, although they seem to have been on the brink of collapse for a while now (with next gen consoles probably saving them, at least for the time being). Still, it seems like the area lacks competition, which is problematic.

Also I could have sworn I read somewhere last year that Intel was planning on soldering CPUs directly to their motherboards, essentially removing some of the modularity of desktop PCs. Correct me if I'm wrong I'm wrong of course (I have limited knowledge of PC hardware), but it's seems like we're headed to a future where the "system on a chip" design takes over.

If you look at GeForce sales, GTX continues to get bigger because more and more people are moving over to have a gaming PC were not seeing that market shrink at all. Whats happening is gamers from console are moving across and buying a gaming PC and that markets remaining flat or growing. The bit of the PC market thats shrinking is the entry-level as people buy more tablets. Tablets are replacing £400-£500 notebooks.

NPD 2012

"Both December and the year as a whole were down 22 percent from their respective 2011"

NPD 2011

"All metrics -- videogame hardware, software, and accessories -- were down in December as compared with December 2010, and ditto for 2011 as compared with 2010"

NPD 2010

"Tracking results from the NPD Group for new U.S. retail video game sales in December showed industry revenues for the important December sales period shrinking 9 percent compared to the same month last year, leaving the industry down 5 percent for the entire year"

RIP in pieces, console industry :(

Lenovo isn't a gaming computer buddy. However, their thinkpad laptops are like tanks I'd probably own one for business purposes.
