This thread shows that you suck at making threads.

Facts hurts. That's why it sucks.

Yeah, facts do hurt, and the massive groth of the gaming side of the PC market seems to hurt you deeply that you can´t let go,so you cling even to things that even further povef the argument in favor of the PC,even if you don´t even realise it. It´s getting bigger than ever was before, and that scares you so much but it´s funny to see your desperation. But again, thanks for posting this, great news, keep them coming. :)

The PC market isn't dying, it's just having some of it's market share taken over by tablets and smartphones, which are also affecting console sales.

That being said, I have to wonder if the PC might not be as in good of shape as some people here like to believe. I'm no expert, but aren't Intel and Nvidia basically the only two companies coming out with new PC architecture? I guess you could also say AMD, although they seem to have been on the brink of collapse for a while now (with next gen consoles probably saving them, at least for the time being). Still, it seems like the area lacks competition, which is problematic.

Also I could have sworn I read somewhere last year that Intel was planning on soldering CPUs directly to their motherboards, essentially removing some of the modularity of desktop PCs. Correct me if I'm wrong I'm wrong of course (I have limited knowledge of PC hardware), but it's seems like we're headed to a future where the "system on a chip" design takes over.

Lol pre-builts.

No PC gamers care about them.

-------

Hell, if I'm not using PC for gaming, I would still continue building custom PCs instead of buying pre-builts.

PC gaming = Windows.

And Windows' present and future =

Linux for gaming? haha. No. PC gaming is actually turning worse as the platform it relies on abandons it.

You do realize you can stick with windows 7 right?  lol

Most people just want to get on the internet and they don't need a PC to do that. The PC is a thing for work; whether you're doing digital art or writing news stories, and the computer has come to a point where it doesn't really have to evolve anymore to accomplish what is needed to do work. Only PC gamers are creating a demand for more powerful computers.

Lenovo's worldwide PC shipments were flat compared with a year ago. While its shipment growth rate exceeded the overall industry average, it was Lenovo's slowest growth since the first quarter of 2009. The slowdown was attributed to a shipment decline in Asia/Pacific, where more than 50 percent of Lenovo's PCs were shipped.

Dell also had a challenging quarter, registering a shipment decline in all regions except Japan. In Gartner's preliminary view, Dell's shipment growth in Japan was boosted by moderate demand, driven by a corporate refresh. Dell's discussions about a possible leveraged buyout impacted shipments, as competitors aggressively attacked Dell's position in the professional market.

In the U.S. market, PC shipments totaled 14.2 million units in the first quarter of 2013, a 9.6 percent decline from the first quarter of 2012 (see Table 2). It marked a record of six consecutive quarters of shipment declines.

most of those are pre built pc makers for low end systems. even people who don't build their own usually use sites that build one for you by selecting components now, especially people who are actively seeking gaming. a lot of those don't do that.

Nobody cares about custom build PC.

Except for the companies who provide the parts for such PCs, and have been seeing increases in revenues every year for quite a lot of time. You know, the companies that matter in the gaming market? Such as... not Asus, Lenovo, HP, Dell, etc.

There's very little need to upgrade from Intel Sandybridge to Intel Ivybridge. HP and ACER needs to get thier act together.

You do realize that the gaming market has been self sufficient for years right?

The general PC market is dying, this is true. But every year performance parts sell a bit better than the last year. Gaming is self sufficent.

Wasdie
Yep, and if you watch Chris Roberts video about the resurgence of PC gaming you'll hear him say the vast majority of Star Citizen backers built there own PC.

This is great news.  I haven't bought a 'branded' PC in over a decade, because they tend to have shoddy components, no choice of OS, and tons of bloatware installed.

As for gaming, I'll stick with custom builds and Windows 7.

Its really not even about prebuilts taking over though. This is about the fact that it takes much longer for a pc to become obsolete than it used to and that many casual users are swiching to tablets. This really has nothing to do with pc gaming at all.

Question: what are the sales numbers for the PS3 for the entire gen vs 1 quarter of pre built PCs? How do PS3 sales compare with the PS2? Question 2: even with a launch of a new console, what are console sales figures this quarter vs last year? Question 3: are console software sales growing or contracting, even with a larger user base? How are PC software sales doing? Which format is truly in trouble?

PCs have become so powerful anyone who isn't a gamer is fine with a core 2 duo from like 7 years ago, that's why people aren't buying new PCs.

Judging by Steam revenue, PC gaming is growing.

prebuilts are just slowing down a lot because no one is in need of keep buying computers every year.

A Computer from like 2007 is probably enough for someone who casualy looks up the internet or Video/Photo Editing.

Gaming PCs are also built to last.

I bought an eMachine Computer in the Summer of 2011 and after some tinkering and upgrading that pitifull eMachine turned into a Gaming Giant and my Computer so far has shown no sign of slowing down.

I can play most games on the highest settings. However, I do need more Ram and a Better CPU.

It still doesn't stop me from playing most of my games on High.

Umm...no. Couple things:

-market for PC gaming hardware is growing

-those numbers do not cover upgrades, PCs people built themselves, PCs built by smaller companies and shops and they also do not cover hybrids

-the upgrade cycle is slowing, but the userbase isn't declining. You only neet to take a look at how much PCs spank tablets sily in web browsing. Mobile devices have been outselling PCs for years and yet they still can't seem to get even over 20% of web browsing.

-and last thing, even the most pesimistic predictions are showing PCs still shipping close to 300 mln units a year FIVE YEARS from now.

PC gaming is irrelevent pretty much, its a 3rd choice in reality.  It might be the best choice, as I do play most of really good graphic games on PC, but its not the most popular by a longshot.   For some reason the hermidiots in this room cant accept the reality of it.    It doesnt sell as well as consoles, devs gear for consoles in mind first, and alot of the time the PC is an afterthought or ill get to it when I get to it basis for devs.   They know where the money is.   Sorry for realtalk, I can say well PC gamers play facebook so that means we have 800 million user base, but im real, deal with it hermidiots.

I was watching an analysis of this earlier. One analyst pointed out the adverse affect this will have on MS's bottom-line. I don't think it will be as big as they think, however, it does make the rumors of 720 being a Windows 8 device seem kinda pointless now.

Consumer:When is a good time to buy a new PC system?

Common sense:Never.

The dumba$$ consolite thinks that since they have to buy pre-built that PC gamers do too.

Low end PC market will fall as more people buy tablets as opposed to the entry level laptops and desktops. High End PC market and I dont mean just for games will always have demand as especially in the professional video and photo sectors as not even the surface pro is good enough for that. Tablets are taking sales from handheld consoles as parents can buy the kids a cheap £99 android tablet and cheap games from 79p versus a Vita at near £200 and then £30 a game. Angry Birds for £9.99 on console or £3.49 on tablet?

[QUOTE="MrYaotubo"]Good thing that has nothing to do with the actual gaming section of the market, wich has been increasing every year, but nice try there sunshine :lol:tagyhag
This is actually a good thing for PC gaming. PC devs won't have to cater to the lower denominator. Which is pre-built desktop PC's.

That's lower sales, isn't it?

WHen you're not catering to the masses, you're losing sales.

You do realize that the gaming market has been self sufficient for years right?

The general PC market is dying, this is true. But every year performance parts sell a bit better than the last year. Gaming is self sufficent.

I wish the thread ended right here... but we're never that lucky...

Why does anyone needs an expensive pc? You can do all your everyday tasks on tablets, phones and even tiny android pcs. You can get a android pc for 50$ with 2 cores at 1.6ghz and 1 gb ram and it runs the web great. Only work startions these days need a expensive computer. For the cost of windows alone i could buy a tablet.
