Nvidia GTX 970 just destroyed next gen consoles

So a £250 graphics card is 3.5x faster than the ps4 or 4x faster than the xbox one while costing £100 less. Has there ever been a bigger rip off in gaming hardware than the next gen consoles?

The new consoles were obviously not state of the art at launch. What were you expecting? Let me ask you though does that graphics card come with a OS, Blu-Ray drive, controller, cpu, 500gb HDD, 8gb GDDR5, and a Mic? And to answer your question the Wii, and wiiU are the biggest ripoff in gaming history.

Consoles have low level api, super powerful sdk, shared memory, api for audio processing on a dedicated audiochip, ultra high-speed transfer of rendering commands from the CPU to the GPU. PC does not have it.
Now on raw devkits, drivers, without experience and without the SDK boost (which will be after 2015) ps4 destroyed pc games

I wasn't aware that when I bought a PS4 or XboxOne I was just buying a GPU in a box.

Consoles have Metal Gear Solid and many other exclusives I can't find on PC.

Stuff like this makes the PS4/X1 look pretty tough. Then when DX12 comes out its only going to make them look worse. You can optimize all you want on those consoles, but there's only so many little tricks you can do to make it better.

Who cares. Games are becoming more expensive to make than ever, I am satisfied with the current systems.

750Ti already did that and it costs less than 150 bucks .

You missed the point . There were a lot of people , who haven't upgraded their PCs since last gen and were waiting for this series of video cards to release , to upgrade . Now , since these cards will be available in market . All they'll have to do is , replace their current GPUs with these new ones . For them it will be like purchasing a new platform for roughly 300 bucks .

The upcoming MGS games are already confirmed on the PC and available to purchase on steam already.

There's a lot of people who need more than just a gpu upgrade.

Dual cores under 3ghz are still the majority on steam hardware survey while these benchmakrs are done with the latest i7's at 4+ ghz.

47% of steam users have 4gb or less ram.

A game that runs at 2560x1440/60fps need around 4 times more powerful hardware compare to just run it at 1920x1080/30fps, and that doesn’t even include any other changes like AA, higher graphics settings etc. Me for example I have a GPU setup(2.5 years old) that is 4 times more powerful than PS4, and I planning to upgrade to two GTX970 (7 times more powerful than ps4) because I will need it very soon.

nope there is no super powerful sdk or ultra high speed crap. A 7850 gpu will play games similar to ps4 and will always do. a gtx 970 will play games 3.5x then the ps4 and will always do to the end of time.

@MK-Professor: rly? show me the screens of a 7850 playing a game that looks as good as infamous or killzone

Pretty impressed with what one pulled off recently. It was running TR 2013 on normal with tressfx @5760x1080 giving me a bit over 30 fps.

This GPU hasn't destroyed anything. The PS4 and Xbox One will still go on to be huge successes because plenty of people will see good value in them. It's not all about specs.

The GTX 970 is good value though, and I might get one in the future as a nice upgrade to my HD7870. It will make better use of the rest of my PC and the low power usage is nice, even though I have a good 750W PSU (more than enough). However, the PS4 will still be my main system since I've got it set up in the lounge room with my big TV and surround speakers. I may end up getting some multiplats on PC, especially late in the generation if there's major performance issues with PS4 versions.

Then there's many console gamers who just aren't into PC gaming at all.

Still keeping my PS3 and future PS4 because of the games on it I can't find elsewhere such as Uncharted and whatever gem Naughty Dog comes up with.

That graphic card wont destroy my ps4 but it may end up sitting next to it that way I can multitask jumping between crysis ultra hd to bloodborne.

There is not a PC version for infamous or killzone so we can’t compare them directly, however we can compare multiplats and a HD7850(a low end GPU) play them with similar graphics and performance like the PS4 do.

@MK-Professor: so what? why does that matter more than what visuals are actually being output? will be interesting to ask you to provide 7850 screens that look as good as games like the order, uncharted 4, god of war 5, driveclub etc in the future.

ROFL congrats. You'll be able to play Crysis 3 with a bazillion frames per second. So exciting.

These next gen consoles were already pretty weak at launch. A hi-end dual gpu pc from 2010 easily outperforms the ps4 without a doubt and that is unprecedented. It has never happened before that a game console is outperformed by a three year older pc.

I can ensure you that if there was a pc version for these games an HD7850 will manage to play them with similar graphics and performance like the PS4 do. But for now you can just look at the multiplats to realize the PS4 is represents the performance of a low-end GPU(like the HD7850).

Someone ought to put up a pc-build guide. Really soon console vs pc is going to look like n64 vs Dreamcast.

What was there to destroy? They're weak from launch. A 3 year old GPU can beat or match a PS4-XB1
