[QUOTE="dukenukemfoeva"][QUOTE="ferret-gamer"] How so? (just to let you know i have a GTX 280, so i have a pretty darn good idea of how they perform.)ferret-gamerhttp://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-5870-review-test/19 295 gtx=just refresh of 280 gtx for 5870 release. A gtx 295 is a dual gpu card not a rehash of the gtx 280, the closest thing to the gtx 280 on that benchmark is a gtx 285.....
I really wouldnt bother trying to reason with him Ferret, Hes about as blind as they get.

I'll second that.[QUOTE="dukenukemfoeva"]from what i seen though 285 gtx still owns 5870 lol.ferret-gamernot even close. damn truth is i really havent been keeping up, since no point in even buying a new card really no games :( lol. im still good with my 8800 GT 512 mb. still seems like ati's been sucking lately.

ATi's been on a roll with their 5000 line. The new 6000 cards seem to be more "optimized" versions of their 5xxx counterparts. Barely behind on performance yet performs cooler and with less power.
amd is the king the 6000 series has good performance and price plus scales great in crossfire mode. Amd still has the fastest card on the market and the 6900 cards are rumored to be 30% than the cards they replace and use less power. The gtx 580 is just a waste.pimpog
I wouldn't call AMD the king... Not by a longshot. AMD high end cards are killer but the middle levels go head to head to nvidia. Nvidia to my knowledge still has the fastest single chip vid card, 5970 is a bust as lower mid class crossfires destroys it and were cheaper then a 5970 (5970 weird power contraints). GTX 580 to me personally seems like a waste but to me... things are about 60% AMd to 40% nvidia. Nvidia still is the big hoss on the business side of things between the 2 companies. I definitely like that AMD is kickin it up. Competition brings great prices to consumers. I got my gtx 460 768mb for 149.99 with free shipping and a game. Thats just hard to beat.

LOL no one has mentioned dx 11 gaming to my knowledge.. The facepalm is more over your "excuse" to not research about video cards before stating complete fallacies as you did with the gtx 280 and gtx 295. Your losing alot of creditability right now. Now you just throwing out information just to do it. What are you alluding to?

what i do know is 480 gtx pwned ati lol.nvidia and ati might aswell stop making cards untill they can run games at decent framerates with heavy use of tessellation.dukenukemfoeva
It would be a shame if people actually used these cards for OTHER THINGS.

cgi ruined the movie industry, looks faker than stop animation. There are quite a number of people who settles for nothing less than top of the line hardware. Nvidia wants to snatch the enthusiast market, obviously. What's the point of it? AMD released mid range cards and Nvidia releases a card more powerful than the 480? I don't get it.

what i do know is 480 gtx pwned ati lol.Hold your horses there dude, the GTX 480 is indeed, albeit questionably the best single gpu card in the market right now. But.....
Does is PAWN ATI? No. It's better but not by much compared to the HD5870. The HD5970 (dual gpu) came out about 6 months before the GTX480, and is still more powerful than the 480. It's not fair to say Nvidia pawned ATI when the best card in the market still belongs to ATI. And even then, the 480 doesn't exactly beat the 5870 in every game, only some. But the 480 is also more expensive, hotter, louder and more power hungry.
though Nvidia produces great cards I still find them over-priced.. for the time being am more than happy with my 5870... I dont plan any upgrades atm, probably will round summer 2011..
From the looks of things the GTX 580 is just an updated 480 should end up 20% faster and have a lower TDP.

I actually found this really funny, because 5870 is a crap card when its up to GTX 480. GTX 480 always beat 5870 ALMOST all game include many DX11 benchmarks. For example GTX 480 beat 5870 easily with Uni Heaven 2.0 because ATi don't know how to make cards to handle the DX11 games, but they barely did. Seemly ATi finally learn new ability like pokemon, to create the DX11 cards in right way with latest cards (6000s series).
Hopefully they drop the 480 down to 399 and this one comes out at 499. All I know is when Crysis 2 releases I'm going to be upgrading to whatever single GPU is the strongest on earth regardless of cost. I want this game absolutely maxed.. And it probably still wont max it :lol:And it will cost $599.

How is the 5870 a crap card is only a little slower than the gtx 480 and even faster in some games ?? The only place the 480 pulls away is in tessellation cause ati had the feature from dx9 but no game used it. Now with dx 11 the feature is finally being used so amd upgraded it to the 2nd gen on the 6000 series. When the 5000 series came out dx11 was not even out and no games used tessellation at all. Nvidia pushed this feature hard cause that was the only place that ati was weak. Now that problem has been addressed on the 6000 series and nvidia is slashing prices on the 460/70 cards. When the 6900 series drop in a couple weeks nvidia will be slashing prices on the 480/580 cards as well. Nvidia is 6 months behind amd and is getting beat out the gate yet again. So to take the edge off they put out this 580 but really it is just a old part repacked with a new name. Yeah it going to be faster but you would have to be a fool to get this card when the amd 6900 cards will be here soon. Sorry nvidia fans go amd or wait 6 months till nvidia gets on the ball.[QUOTE="RageQuit4Life"][QUOTE="jhcho2"]

The 5870 does beat it on price though you can get one for about $360 and the GTX 480 go for $470. When I got mine the 480 was only $50 more so at the time I did see it as the better buy. Both are great cards though cant go wrong with either imo.
just look at this review, just look at the regular GTX 480 and not the one being reviewed.

[QUOTE="tagyhag"][QUOTE="dukenukemfoeva"] nope nvidia is leader in highend single gpu cards....ati gave up.dukenukemfoeva
Your wording makes it sounds that AMD has no high-end single GPU cards.
their highend single gpu cards arent faster than nvidia and released after nvidia. that's proof they arent competing in highend anymore HD 5870 takes a dump on the crappy 480... 100 dollars more for a measly 10-15% performance increase, but 30+% wattage increase, a lot higher temps etc....Overkill.. I can still play anything and everything on high or maxed at 1680 x 1050 resolution with my Radeon 4850 video card. A card that I spent $110 on.

Otherwise, I really don't see that as much of a downside.Your wording makes it sounds that AMD has no high-end single GPU cards.

tri SLI 460 GTX>580 GTX
Disturbed123
You can't tri SLI a 460 can you? Pretty sure it only has an adapter for one bridge and not 2.
I don't see any PC games coming out that are going to require a GPU this powerfull.... So, whats the point?
