BF3, Crysis 2?I don't see any PC games coming out that are going to require a GPU this powerfull.... So, whats the point?

[QUOTE="AdolescentDon"]BF3, Crysis 2? Thing is, you could probably max out both those games on a GPU that costs half as much as the GTX580.I don't see any PC games coming out that are going to require a GPU this powerfull.... So, whats the point?

[QUOTE="mitu123"][QUOTE="AdolescentDon"]BF3, Crysis 2? We will not need a GTX580 to run those games... How about to max them out? And I read the PC version of Crysis 2 might get delayed to take advantage of that card.I don't see any PC games coming out that are going to require a GPU this powerfull.... So, whats the point?

I can almost guarantee I'll be able to max both of those with my 480. :P

unless crysis 2 is indeed being pushed back on the PC to take advantage of the 580 :Pthe 480 is better than 5870 in every way possible.
more speed, better dx11, better drivers, better sli scaling, the list goes on.
the person who said 5870 takes a dump on 480 must be a die hard ati/amd fan.
i read somewhere that Crysis 2 will be very heavy on the cpu, up to 12 cores.
so if you're still gaming on dual core cpu i suggest to upgrade if crysis 2 is on your wish list.
nvidia cards are overpriced, and they produce alot more heat than the amd cards :P and use alot more power... why hasn't amd comepletly taken over the gpu market?
Because Nvidia cards are more powerful. Maybe that's why they use more power and are hotter? These AMD/ATI fanboys get really annoying after a while.nvidia cards are overpriced, and they produce more heat than a first gen xbox 360 :P and use alot more power... why hasn't amd comepletly taken over the gpu market?

the 6850's power is that of an gtx 460, and uses less power and runs alot cooler.
the 6870's power is that of the gtx 470 AND uses less power and runs alot cooler.
And the price.
I think I'll stick with my current setup for now. I'm yet to find anything that even comes close to stressing my rig.

yeah... but can it run crysis? ... At "maximum speed!" :P

I got my 480 GTX early, when it was only like 50 bucks more than the 5870. It was worth it. Especially when we take physics into account.

Wait till the 6970 comes out :P btw what performance do you get out of crysis with your rig?

I use a modified autoexec.cfg with Rygel's texture mod and I get a solid 30 fps throughout pretty much.
I'm using a 4 year old motherboard though lmao. I'm sure that bottlenecks the real performance. Probably gonna upgrade beginning of next year.

Same reason I got mine as well, I was ready to buy 1 or 2 5870's but they were going for $450 and the MSRP when the cards came out was $369. In the end I got the GTX 480 for $499 with no tax. Its still the best single GPU out there especially if you over clock it, got 25k in Vantage with mine

Yeah the 480 GTX is the better card, but it came out too late for me. I got my 5870 at launch for $400, and thanks to its low power requirements and low temps I've been able to keep a nice overclock.Yeah the 480 GTX is the better card, but it came out too late for me. IMO, The GTX 580 should run nicely under water, Still not sure if it'll be cooler or hotter then the GTX 480, Can't find solid Information.
I'm waiting for the 5970's to drop or maybe get a 6870 since it's been coming back with good reviews on performance. I've been VERY happy with the 4870, but it's time to move on to DX11.Heil68The 6870 isn't a big enough jump from the 4870, you should wait for the 69XX cards

Uhh.. What are you talking about? Power consumption is not a telltale sign to what piece of hardware is more powerful.. ATI and Nvidia have been trading blows since the beginning in constantly taking the lead or losing it in numerous price brackets..

There is absolutely no reason to upgrade a 4870 right now.. It can still play any and all games at high to max settings..

Well from all the reviews that I've seen, most games get almost double the fps. (About 75-80%)
Its to bad i could probably buy all 3 consoles for the price of it.
warmaster670
Cool never knew they were gonna cost 1,400 a card. You must have a magical crystal ball! Can you tell me if I'm going to win the lottery too?
Just saw the reviews for the gtx 580 and it is still slower than the 5970 and both cost $499. Oh and the amd 6900 is still coming in a couple of weeks. Looking at the benchmarks the 5870 is a little slower or even a little faster in a couple benches vs gtx 480 and only cost $330. Nvidia is getting left behind it seems.
Pretty impressive card.... beats the GTX 480 by a good 30% or more in most test.

Not that impressive the 460 in sli and the 6850 in crossfire beat it for under $350 and it's not 30% faster hell not even 20% in some games.Pretty impressive card.... beats the GTX 480 by a good 30% or more in most test.
