Quit whining and trying to grasp straws, Who cares about Open CL performance on a Nvidia gpu, they tend to use CUDA and the 680 is a gaming card not a focused on Gpgpu so much at this point and time, then tests prove that the "GPU boost"does not work correctly for all games and they are only the first set of drivers. NVIDIA has put absolutely no time into optimizing their Kepler compiler for SmallLuxGPU So quit bashing the card.... Its faster and cheaper then AMD's offerings the field it really counts "gaming", just wait for more driver updates which will optimize their drivers for better performnce on all fronts.

04dcarraher

Quit whining about me and address the issues at hand. Also be consistent with a range of workload types like with CPU vs CPU PC benchmarks.

lol im not the one complaining ,

Techreport did a better analysis than just those "push button" benchmarking websites.

Driver optimizations can go both ways. Please be consistent. For example, AMD's Catalyst driver already provides GPU load values and ability to change core clockspeed. Direct3D frame rate counters can be linked to V-Sync settings. 3rd party overclock tools already has access to these values.

forget benchmarks, here is why im getting a gtx680 over previous Nvidia and AMD graphics cards.

TXAA - 8x msaa with just 5% performance hit GPU Boost Tech - dynamic oc when you need more fps.

Adaptive Vertical Synh - eliminates screen tearing for the smoothest gameplay possible.

Frame Rate Target - eliminates screen tearing, eliminates stutter, etc.

so while you kids fight over frame rates ill be having fun with these new features.

ronvalencia

Did you read techreport.com frame render latency and stutter?

On "GPU Boost Tech", I have successfully overclock to 1GHz with two 6pin PCI-E power connectors.

Did you read why there was issues with Batman AA and a few other games? the gpu power does not scale correctly and the easy way to fix it is to disable the gpu boost....

I doubt driver optimization will make the card worse, they will fix these small issues its not like the 7970 has issues with lantecy in TW2 or flashing issues ethier..... Also those features of monitoring and overclocking are in Nvidia drivers aka ESA Tools. For the average user they can care less about the advanced options.

Right, I said that the last one was the only one where they showed they overclocked.

That's the last pic in the link :P

ronvalencia

They all show 1006 Mhz core i.e. 30 percent overclock over 706 Mhz core.

its not 30 percent overclock, don't you know how to do math? 706*1.3 = 911

706x=1006?? whats x

correct, its overclocked 42%! now does the driver do that dynamically, because if it does, thats awesome

Either way, it's not overclocked, because 1006 is default clock...

I love the sound of TXAA.

So this is what next gen consoles will be like. Nice.

Why are you laughing? 720/ps4 are likely arriving in around 2 years. That seems very plausible to me.

because you aren't getting 500-600 dollar enthusiast GPUs inside consoles

Because if consoles got any gpu anywhere close to a 680, it would cost upwards of $800

Not only that but the power supply and cooling required would defeat the purpose of consoles being small and cheap. the GTX 680/ 7970 will use upto 220w under major stress by themselves not including the whole system.

Certainly not blown away. But without a doubt GTX 680 is better. Performs better in most games and draws less power (which I found was the biggest improvement on this series, given that in the mid-high end segment, AMD has been beating nVidia over the last couple of years). And the prices is just icing on the cake.

It depends on how long it is before the new consoles arrive and if Microsoft is willing to sell the new console at a loss like the last two times. Also they would need to make the console larger for better air circulation. My guess is that they will do as they have done the last two gens and offer a card that is below high end cards (maybe mid end) but offers some new tech features to stay relevant. The Xbox's GPU was weaker than the higher end Geforce 3 cards but had certain features of the later Geforce 4. The Xbox 360 was weaker than the higher end ATI 1xxx series cards but had new unified shader tech. These features were new so they were not as well implemented as when added to newer PC GPUs but they still helped both consoles, especially with the original Xbox.

They'll outdo the 3DO in price.

AMD has not been beating Nvidia especially on single gpu performance, The GTX 580 held the performance crown for over a year before AMD came out with the 7970 /7950, and even with Nvidia's last gen Fermi 480 still gave the 6970(which came out vs GTX 500's) a run for its money. Funny thing is that GTX 580 vs 6970 for power draw is nearly the same. AMD only had a lead in cheaper prices for their cards , but this 7000 series has nothing on Nvidia's 600's now since its price to performance ratio is better.
