This was pretty much common sense as soon as they announced it was a Tegra.

So anywhere within a large range..? lol. Sounds good to me, that would be insane power for a handheld system. I'll let the games decide if it appeals to me, deciding based on pixels is what children do.

Why are they even mentioning the ps3 in 2016? Aiming for the ps4 specs is a joke but aiming for 06 specs is a mindf*ck. This time around, their Nintendo system may be not one, but two gens behind.

As an X1 and PS4 owner, I'm more excited for this than either the Neo or the Scorpio. Power be damned, I want good games. If I'm concerned with power, I'll game on my pc.

How would a hybrid handheld/console be much more powerful than that? This is what we should be expecting at this point. And I'm more than fine with it. An even more beautiful Mario Kart game on the go? 3D mario? Yes please. You guys can have your pointless TFLOPS. All they are going to get you is more cut-scenes and less gameplay. Enjoy!

gives a bit more credence to the eurogamer rumor mind....though i still dont know how they are going to get the power draw of an X1 or an X2 down to below 5W.

at the end of the day its going to be a machine buit for the needs of nintendos, and only nintendos, developers and business. anyone expecting 3rd party multiplat support...well you either setting yourself up for dissapointment or your playing the SW game of setting the system up for failure in the meta game. if its the latter....well played sir :P.

Games and game play are more important than graphics. I swear if some of you were alive when games started you wouldn't be gamers with this graphics fixation.

It's a handheld, so it's weaker. It's not yet possible to make a handheld as powerful as XB1

By underclocking it, of course. They'll have to cut the speed in half, and then the power draw will actually drop by much more than half. An X1's GPU at 500MHz draws just 1.5W, though that's just the GPU.

I don't get what Nintendo is trying to do here. It sounds like shit to be honest. If they honestly think they can get mobile gamers to drop their phones and tablets for a dedicated Nintendo handheld then they are totally out-of-touch.

Also if this device is bulkier than a 3DS XL then its going to turn off a lot of people who want it mainly for handheld gaming purposes. People are already carrying 4+" iPhones and 7+" iPads on them these days. Do people really want to carry a 2nd or 3rd device on them just to play some Nintendo games? Might sell to kids who don't already own a tablet, but I don't see this turning into a mainstream success.

isnt that the level of WII U already? somewhere inbetween ps3 and ps4.. (though certainly on the lower end of the spectrum ) . I'd say the NX is 99% going to be weaker than the Xbox one. That is a guarantee . It will probably at best equal wii u or just be a TINYYYYYYYYYYY bit ahead in graphics.

I think this console is gonna flop , but!!! if the price comes out like around $300 or less.. Then i'd say it might do pretty decently ( better than wii u) . But if more than $300 for essentially a tegra tabloid , It will flop to wii U proportions.

If its a handheld console hybrid I can see how that will work. Not sure its wise though. Don't get me wrong, a Nintendo handheld will always sell, but limiting yourself to the handheld crowd effectively kills off their console aspirations. No third party, the ever continuing perception that Nintendo is for kids only, it's not a good move.

I did think they might actually bring out two versions and just have a standardised platform so their main games could be played across them which meant you could effectively play your Mario game on both but certain games would be console only etc. But this sounds like they are giving up actually ever being competition again.

I'm keeping an eye on this as I always do with consoles, I wont write it off. But I don't think the apex console Nintendo brings out being underpowered once again is a good idea. I just don't.

So Nintendo have left the home console market then, this is just a more powerful handheld with a TV out. I was kinda figuring it would clock itself down for mobile use and up the clocks for home or something like that, but this just sounds shit.

well that makes sense considering that nintendo literally says this. Reggie said something like they don't want to compete with MS and Sony in their red ocean. Ergo, they aren't making a red ocean product.

If they're melding the handheld and home console markets (like is heavily speculated), then power is really a non-issue for me. So long as there is sufficient power to create decent looking games -- without relying heavily on art style -- then i'm cool.

Nintendo completely bowed out of the specs arms race way back with the Wii. It should come as no surprise that raw horsepower is not their number one criteria in a new hardware platform.

This is a product made strictly for Nintendo fans, but in the most efficient way in terms of profit margin per customer. This can sell half as much as Wii U and 3DS combined and still produce dramatically higher profit overall, especially combined with profit from mobile. You're going to have to hope for a massive failure if you want Nintendo to go third-party after this. I don't think that your 40 million minimum is going to hold up.

@techhog89: Do you think that it potentially being a bigger device than the 3DS XL could be an issue with appealing to the mainstream audience? I'm sorry, but everything about this so far is really just disappointing me. I still don't see the hook of having detachable controllers.

Tegra X2 even at full blast won't be able to hit XB1 performance let alone PS4. It will be even weaker in a dedicated handheld that requires less than 8 watts.

Nonsense. I grew up with gaming since the Collecovision, and I always desire better presentation. Of course gameplay is more important, but it can always be made better with better graphics.

Still hoping for a hat trick. A discrete GPU in the docking station might make this a damn good machine. It makes me wonder if Nintendo has a road map to an NX Neo when 4K gpus can be produced on the cheap.

I cant help but think that if the handheld part has this kind of power on tap out of th3 gate, they will easily be able to traverse a generation with that. However, they would be short sighted to expect the consumer base not to transition to 4K tvs in the course of the 9th gen.

Going by WiiU sales I'd say it does matter. Nintendo does have more high profile IP than Sony or M$ but without 3rd party support and comparable specs to the competition they will remain a non factor in the home console space. Just look how much games like GTA, Battlefield, CoD, Overwatch and Madden/2K/Fifa sell. That is a massive chunk of the gaming market that Nintendo has no chance to capture every time they release a console with no 3rd party support.

ITT: So many people thinking of it as a console when it is actually a hybrid console-handheld, meaning it's power won't be top end for consoles, but will be something the handheld market has never seen.

@NathanDrakeSwag: I'm ok with that because I know what I'm purchasing when I buy a Nintendo console. I don't stress power level because I've seen what they can do with little power. Would I like to see a Nintendo system with comparable specs? Sure. Does it matter to me from a game standpoint. Not at all.
