ITT: So many people thinking of it as a console when it is actually a hybrid console-handheld, meaning it's power won't be top end for consoles, but will be something the handheld market has never seen.

Nintendo is a lost cause. Not even trying to be competitive any more.

Hey!! Was wondering where you've been. Glad your back.

I really hope when it comes out the WiiU drops mightily in price. I don't care about a new Mario, I will never play a Pokémon game in my life so all I really was looking forward to is Zelda.

Doesn't bother me that much tbh... if I was going to get the NX, it'd only be sort of a backup console to my XB1 anyway.

I like Nintendo and i like their games, but to be honest, it would be nice if i didn't have to buy 2 consoles again in order to enjoy most of the multiplats...so yeah, i have serious doubts about this.

So anywhere within a large range..? lol. Sounds good to me, that would be insane power for a handheld system. I'll let the games decide if it appeals to me, deciding based on pixels is what children do.

Handheld market was in 2009 70%, now it's just 3% and rest are tablet and mobile. Good luck with flop system. Mobiles are already more powerful than shitty handheld that nobody cares to buy just to play nintendo games.

You know that tablet and mobiles have button, right?

People are not going to buy handheld to play few Nintendo games when Mobile gives more than gaming. And then Handheld too weak to fight against sony and microsoft.

It's old as 3D gaming. Nothing new.

The hardware isn't a issue. Its the support that the console gets and I don't think Nintendo is going to have a easy time selling a "hand" held system at a higher price than their 3DS did at launch since that didn't take off until the price drop... I don't think this will go down so well with consumer joe.

Also what's more concerning than hardware is that he states that Nintendo is targeting a demographic in between mobile users and console gamers... That to me echoes again that Nintendo is not really making games for their fan base or a console that they actually deserve.

That being said I will get a NX for the new Zelda alone so there... But this "console" will flop hard in the mainstream.

Good luck investing your money into system that is dead, dead like Sega was back then. Glad you not running the company. You would go bankrupt. For a handheld its crazy powerful. For a console its a disappointment. Would have loved it if it used Polaris 11.

Considering Pascal has way better power efficiency then Polaris, that would have just left us with a weaker performing NX.

I am excited for this thing as a handheld... As a console it sounds like under powered trash again.

Thats very true.

That being said the NX will more likely when docked and powered perform with different clock rates than when in hand held mode... That to me is a little concerning, how will the framerate be when using it as a handheld or will the games resolution scale.

Lots of questions and I guess we wont know till its released.

My biggest concern is that the hardware needs to be docked in order to get the full wattage and full performance... So will games be built based on the performance of the device as a handheld or a console because the two are a lot different in terms of power. Either way this looks like a bad console.

Facts are facts the NX is a shield tablet with a new controller and a docking station. If you don't care you in a very small minority of the gaming market.

PS4 was mid tier at best technology wise by 2012 standards (it's not unrealistic to expect a 2017 console to at least match it power wise).

So what? You don't root for your favorite sports team because they have the highest market value, or have the most fans. You don't own a F150 Ford truck because they sell the most vehicles every year. So why should anyone care about popularity and trends?

Nintendo handhelds have always had amazing libraries of games and have outstanding Eastern third party support, which, along with first party Nintendo games, is why people enjoy them. Nintendo will be expanding on what they do best: handhelds, and making them even better with HDTV support.

A full home console, yes. A battery powered handheld hybrid running cartridge based games, no. That would not be possible even today. Especially not at a consumer price point.

Since when Nintendo fans are into graphics anyway? It wasn't with Gameboy, it wasn't with Wii, you'd expect them to do so with their new console?

So a true gamer just buys hardware no questions asked ???

I guess I fail the "true gamer" litmus test then. I try to make informed choices and don't care who makes the platform.

If Nintendo would enter the race I would consider them but I will not just buy hardware based on the name alone. You look at the emulation landscape and the only platform I can't play on my phone is the wii u currently but I can on pc for free. So I ask why should I invest in a NX that will most likely be emulated on my phone in the near future ??

This is what I can't wrap my head around. This is also why I think the NX will fail and why anybody should exercise extreme caution before buying the NX.

True sheep no but we already saw what making a sheep only console can do for Nintendo's bottom line. This platform is unlikely to offer much 3rd party support so why do I need one is the question I ask myself ???

I am a handheld gamer first and foremost. I wasn't going to buy the NX if it was another typical console like the other two systems. I wasn't going to buy the NX if it was a streaming box.s

Needless to say, I am thrilled that Nintendo is focusing on handhelds, and NOT competing with the bro machines.

I am also a handheld gamer and I have more games than I can ever play using emulators for free. I have yet to hear why the NX is a compelling reason to spend more money and carry an extra device to do the same thing but with diminished function.

The only thing Nintendo can say is new mario upgrade but call me crazy that IMO is not enough for me.

Welp, NX won't appeal to me, either.

Looks like I'll be going from:

PS4 ===> NEO

Xbox One ====> Project Scorpio

So basically PS3< Wii U< NX< PS4 ? Ok cool the PS3 is a great system. Games are still coming out for it.

Given that we have a ballpark of the specs of this things, I'm now more interested in the form factor, design, and features. Those will have to be the things that sell this Frankenstein of a platform.

“It won’t appeal to PS4 fans. Nintendo seems set on trying to upgrade smartphone gamers. That’s going to be a big job for the marketing department.”

Wow "upgrade smartphone gamers" lol?!?! Well I guess it doesn't really mean anything, but it sounds awful.

How old are you that you fail to grasp such a simple concept and are willing to buy a shield k1 tablet with a new controller and a nintendo logo on it ????

I get that your a hardcore sheep and you love nintendo but Jesus does value and common sense factor into your hardware choices at all ???

Will you at least wait and see or just blindly follow anything with a nintendo label on it???

Son, I have more Sony systems and games than you do. I play games for fun, not for fucking pixels. I am a true gamer, you probably bow to Sony and empty tech.

Bigboi500 is one of those people who don't understand how world works. He just spend money on useless items instead of buying something quality and have better life. He rather buy 3 weak PCs than just 1 powerful and quality PC. And he just said he gonna buy NX to play Zelda... game that was suppose to be on Wii U only. And diden't Nintendo said that those games that gonna be released on NX are Wii U remakes. Also it was known that Nintendo games that are going to released on NX about 6-10 month after NX release are Wii U ports like Mario and Zelda. And i wonder what 3rd party support he is talking about? Nobody is gonna invest money on console that flop and game sale is low.

Also in fact 3rd party support will be even lower for 2 reason.

First, let's think logically. Wii U was released 2012 and console hardware was weak. No 3rd party support. Now releasing NX console that is still almost same weak like Wii U but releasing in 2016 against Neo and Scorp means even less 3rd party support.

Second, when it's handheld then this means that PS4 and Xbox games are not coming to NX because it would take extra money to make extra port on NX.

Third. We all know that Nintendo gamers not buying 3rd party games. GTA flop on 3DS, Dead Space flop, sniper game flop, assassins creed flop, call of duty flop. No point to make games on NX when people already OWN PS4/PC/Xbox One.

Bigboi500 fails to understand concept. Sad.

I'm not sure how sold I am on the hybrid design rumor yet but if it's on par or better than a Wii U I think I would be fine with it.

Imagine the library a Nintendo handheld gets along with console style releases that are playable on the go or at home. That's awesome

If breath of the wild is an example of what this hybrid could do graphically though I think I will be pretty pleased in the end. My worry is it's going to be a great handheld but won't be able to transition to the big screen without being underpowered.

In the end it's a Nintendo console. I love their games and wouldn't skip the system regardless because I know the games will be great.

A powerful handheld while at the same time being a weak sauce home console.

I don't get what Nintendo is trying to do here. It sounds like shit to be honest. If they honestly think they can get mobile gamers to drop their phones and tablets for a dedicated Nintendo handheld then they are totally out-of-touch.

Also if this device is bulkier than a 3DS XL then its going to turn off a lot of people who want it mainly for handheld gaming purposes. People are already carrying 4+" iPhones and 7+" iPads on them these days. Do people really want to carry a 2nd or 3rd device on them just to play some Nintendo games? Might sell to kids who don't already own a tablet, but I don't see this turning into a mainstream success.

This.

On one end, you have what will likely be a very bulky handheld. And on the other hand, a very underpowered home console. The Wii U is already in that gap of between PS3 - PS4 power.

This seems like an inevitable disaster.

Since when Nintendo fans are into graphics anyway? It wasn't with Gameboy, it wasn't with Wii, you'd expect them to do so with their new console?

Probably since hardware power determines 3rd party support. I personally couldn't care less about power. Nintendo has shown that they can make a game on anything. But 3rd party wants certain things to get their support.

I just hope they'll bring their glory back because Wii U was total failure IMO, I don't game on consoles generally - I'm a PC gamer but I went and bought the original Wii because it brought something new to gaming - almost every house bought the console whether there're gamers in the family or not - that's where Nintendo really shined IMO

I just hope the concept is a good one. Wii U had no concept and it hurt them bad.

True... It will literally be like having a PS3 in your hands.

I am excited for this thing as a handheld... As a console it sounds like under powered trash again.

The shield k1 already has that power. The snapdragon 820 already has that power. So what are you excited about ???

Because those things have the commercial relevance and first party franchise catalogue of a Nintendo-branded handheld.

If NX is mobile, it's doesn't directly compete against desktop game consoles.

$199.99 for NX handheld mobility would be pretty good.
