Obsidian about to climb to Rockstar & CD Project Red levels. XSX will be gamers system of choice.

We already know Obsidian is a beloved developer by hardcore gamers and we already know that Fallout New Vegas is considered the best Fallout game and we already know that The Outer Worlds is a great new franchise.

We also know that Obsidian due to budget constraints has not been able to be a top shelf big budget developer like Rockstar and CD Project Red. This is all about to change and Obsidian is likely going to be sitting at the podium with the big boys now.

The latest scuttle butt is that Obsidian is working on a huge new big budget fantasy RPG in the vein of games like Skyrim. Bethesda has clearly got to be a little concerned now. Everyone already knows that Obsidian >>> Bethesda but never had the budget to over take them. That has all changed MS is making it rain at Obsidian and clearly MS has big plans for Obsidian.

MS knows that if Obsidian can produce a game in the vein of a game like Skyrim that it can be a huge mega hit and shift huge amounts of market share. It's looking like this is exactly the plan. This isn't going to be a budget constrained game like The Outer Worlds. The word on the street is that Obsidian has hundreds of developers working on a new fantasy RPG mega project in the vein of a game like Skyrim. MS is pumping the money into Obsidian now to make them a MEGA developer and to sit tall with the big boys.

With Obsidian's pedigree, and with MS $$$, and Obsidian going after the Skyrim thrown this is bad news for Bethesda and Sony.

Lets be honest here if Obsidian is making a huge big budget game in the vein of a Skyrim type game with a HUGE budget and hundreds of developers I think it's safe to say that the XSX and the XSS will sell like hotcakes because gamers will want this game.

Is the XSX & XSS now a must own system, and is MS poised to take back huge chunks of market share, and the XSX be the system of choice for games this gen? Sony fanboys have to be concerned and keeping an eye on this developing story, and they must be worried that they no longer have Obsidian on PS systems.

It likely will we already know Skyrim has sold millions of copies and we already know that Obsidian is a well liked developer. Gamers will defiantly be getting this game if it's AAAA like its being reported.

This could be a show down between Bethesda and Obsidian in the next 4-5 years. I bet Bethesda gets scared and delays the next Elder Scrolls game to avoid this incoming Obsidian masterpiece.

The best way to attack Sony is talk about their politics and censorship. They have people like Cuckman, Sarkeesian and are putting a tran sexual character in the new Ratchet game.

The Outer Worlds was good but you could tel Obsidian needed a bigger budget. With MS funding now this will happen with The Outer Worlds 2 and also with their new big fantasy RPG.

Well TC’s hyperbole aside, Obsidian is a very talented developer and I am very much looking forward to seeing what they can create with Microsoft’s resources. Should be some very good stuff.

however, there is more to making a great AAA game than just throwing more money at it. you need to have the ability to design and test the game properly which gets harder as games get more ambitious.

You're forgetting that it literally takes like 5+ years to build games that are the same scope and caliber as Rockstar or CD Project Red.

the outer worlds wasn't lacking budget, it was lacking an interesting story, engaging gameplay and a good inventory system. so much potential in the premise but the execution was flawed. alpha protocol the same. i haven't played pillars tbf but i wasn't a huge fan of new vegas either. there's a bit of the emperor's new clothes syndrome with obsidian for me. can't help feel reputationally they still live off the nostalgia from their black isle / early days

Rockstar comes close to having the amount of quality titles Obsidian has, but their reliance on a.) the same franchise for about 90% of the time (GTA) and b.) the whole open-world bullshit knocks them down a bit imo.

CD Project has good games in The Witcher series, but...that's about it. Not listing Cyberpunk bc it is not out yet.

Obsidian is the true king out of these three developers, and has been for decades.
