@pc_rocks: Pokémon sells so much because it appeals to a huge variety of gamers of all ages. You, as a hardcore gamer, may not like it, but it appeals to many casual players out there, and casual players greatly outnumber the hardcore players.

The PS1 graphics kill the immersion for me. Would have been awesome if the game actually looked like the promo art which could have easily been done with todays technology.

PS1?

Yeah, it totally looks like a Saturn game, not PS1.

Know the damn difference.

For now, yes. But industry trends would point to mobiles likely becoming a bigger source of revenue in future.

FIFA is the official tie-in license, a household name, with casual brand recognition, the COD of sports games. It's unrealistic to expect PES, a cult franchise targeting hardcore fans, to match its sales. Gameplay matters more to hardcore fans. But brand recognition matters more to casuals.

No...........FIFA is winning because of it being the more authentic experience, having far more modes, has women teams ( US women's team are more popular than its men's team), and has far better licencing. It does a lot of things far better than PES.

@dorkmeister579: Was going to say something similar, about Pokemon and Star Wars being the biggest media franchises because of how much mass appeal they have to casual audiences. In Pokemon's case, it's a multi-media franchise that transcends far beyond its original medium (video games), gaining unprecedented success in other media (e.g. anime shows, films, cards, toys, merchandise, theme parks, etc.).

@texasgoldrush: As we've already established, PES has the more "authentic" gameplay. FIFA has the advantage of more quantity, in terms of modes and licensing (since EA is the bigger company, it can buy-out more licenses). But the biggest reason FIFA sells as much as it does is brand recognition. In Europe, FIFA is a household name. EA can screw up badly, and FIFA will still sell loads, because of the brand.

@scatteh316: but you used to be one of those clowns??? it’s so confusing when cows change personalities over night...

I've never been that bad and tended to argue a lot more with Hermits more then anything else, Hermits HATE the fact I used to game exclusively on PC and have moved back to console and are happy with the swap.

Oh and I'm still a clown ?

Nobody actually cares about you that much.
