Official Bioshock Review Discussion Thread - 9.0 (POST HERE OR BE SUSPENDED)

At least it didn't flop, but this review is really an eye opener as to how terrible gamespot's new review system is. I still wish for them to change it back, as now gamespot is way down on my list of credible reviews, and it used to be the #1 and the deciding point on most of my purchases. It's great that gamespot is being brutal with their reviews, I don't know if their trying to get the name of toughest critic, but bioshock definitely deserved a bit better. I would have liked to have seem numerical values for each statistic to see how exactly the score came out the way it did, but alas gamespot reviews have really gone down the hole so that's out of the question. Anyway, I'd recommend going to a site that's not steering for toughest critic; bioshock deserved a bit better 9.0. Only two critisisms in total... very slight slow down after a few hours of play time and a respawn system that eases the difficulty a bit. C'mon Jeff.

By the way, not that it matters much, but I'm probably never going to post on GS again. But OH BOY, look at all the attention your getting Jeff, I'm sure you feel it's worth it.

I know this is a Gamespot forum, but there are reasons you don't base a game flopping or not on a single person's opinion. It makes so much more sense to use Gamerankings for "ownage" that it's mind-numbing.

It's sad and stupefying to see people in this thread gloating that Bioshock "flopped" or "almost flopped" because one guy didn't think it was as good as 20 other guys who thought it was a masterpiece, and also when they probably haven't played the demo. Oh well.

This review confirmed two things for me:-

(1) the new review system sucks badly

(2) gs reviews are not to be trusted anymore

i am not exactly mad it just seems very strange that would encounter a graphical glitch that no other site has had a problem with...

this game flopped by those standards even though it was hyped AAA it was hyped 9.5 or higher. and people compared it to OoT. still i will pick up my copy tommrorow. but this game floped in alot of systemwarnites minds

The game isn't even out yet! You haven't even played the full game yet, but you are convinced it's perfect? IT'S A FREAKING AAA! IT'S LIKELYA BEAUTIFUL GAME WITH SOME INCREDIBLE IDEAS!

Used to be one of GS's favorite scores. Wouldn't be surprised if it was true.

lets just hope jeff realizes the game comes out tomorrow. this review was as much abot his skills as a reviewer as the game. millions are going to play the game and judge jeff byhis review. his openion and credability may take a huge blow, and gamespts rep along with it. with a score that much lower than all the other sites i'm skeptical of jeff but i'll wait until i play the game. rdo

I think this is the first time that I have been dissapointed in a low 9.

I saw the review and my face was litterally like: =/ "That doesn't seem right"

Oh well, Jeff seemed seriously inclined to make an example out of this game. I guess I know how the TP people felt only less terrible because of the lack of flopage.

btw, what was the flop threshold score for Bioshock? (the minimum score the game is allowed to receive at GS without being called a flop)

I believe it is just GS's 360 because I also haven't seen any other reviewer mention this. Ghost in the machine review possibly.

I'm on a P4 running at 3.0GHz, XFX GeForce 7600 GS 512MB version, tossed in with 512MB RAM and even I don't think the requirements are high. :|

They have been annoying for years. Once in a while he nails it though. Greg has and always will be better.
