No I'm not defending that move. I'm just saying that for most people it's cheaper. I think originally you asked why the heck nintendo would make it connect to a wii mote.

Alright, I thought so :)

Well, yeah, my original question was indeed why that company who makes this controller or nintendo would require another controller to be able to use it.

Okay, it's cheaper. But it's also more cumbersome that way. Why connect two controllers to your wiiu, to play just one, when there is a wireless connection in place there that allows you to connect the one you want.

But I've already said this before. I see you argument, but for me as a Wii U owner this controller is absolutely pointless to me. I only hook up my wiimote when I want to play Wii games, because it's necessary. I'm not going to do so to play Wii U games.

It's not "my argument" It's just why I think Nintendo is doing it lol. I think this entire thing is stupid as hell. This shouldn't even be a thing. Nintendo should just move on and force people to use the Pro controller or Wii Mote. instead of being stuck in the past because a few people who are afraid of change or (and the the possibility for improvement.) The smash zealots should just have to just deal with it.

Then we think the same way about this.

But it's not a big deal to me anymore. I was expecting a controller that looked like this lol:

The original GC controller is not good at all. It basically works quite well for a few genres (Third person shooters particularly) but certainly no more than contemporary rivals and compared to the modern standard fails completely. But then you have any game which requires anything resembling an even spread of buttons like a fighting game or a sports title and it's useless. That's without mentioning how cheap it felt or those awful triggers. One big "A" button and the rest felt like menu buttons. I certainly wouldn't be copying it.

But true to form, Nintendo have done the following:

1. Hinted a current design is inspired by the past to prey upon the nostalgia driven fans

2. Released a controller with unnecessary gimmicks which only make things worse, in this case having an uneven controller. They have the pro controller for this crap, they used tracing paper on an xbox pad and it works better.

And you still have to plug it into a wii mote by the looks of it.

What in the holy shit **** is that?

I'm not a big fan of the Gamecube controller, but it would've surely been a money printer for Nintendo with the WiiU.

This just looks like some deformed hybrid Sega/Nintendo controller experiment that escaped from the Nintendo HQ basement. Who gave this shit the green light? Why?

Just kidding btw, I know it's a cyborg guitar condom.

That's nice. The Gamecube had one of the best controllers ever.

Just get a Pro controller already.

These will still be tethered to a Wiimote, and we all know how fast those nom batteries.

Controllers are part of a console.

They have partnered with Nintendo, I'd imagine it has the Nintendo name on it somewhere.

Either way, your analogy still sucks. And my post was perfectly clear. Even if it was slightly off-topic.

Nintendo makes the best games. I think wiiu is underpowered, but Nintendo making consoles allows them to keep their design philosophies, which next to no other game studios carry.

They need to make consoles so they can keep designing 2d platformers?

Unless you mean design philosophy in input device. Which would be hilarious, considering how hilariously underutilized the gamepad is.

The NES, SNES, N64, GC, Wii, Wii U controllers are the same?

Unless you're talking about this gen, Nintendo had better graphics for two gens.

Care to elaborate how Nintendo games are the same?

Such baseless remarks.

They do now.

Barely, not significant enough to warrant a new console purchase.

They play the same. They make (usually fund, but still) some great new IPs. They are almost always on their handhelds. The ones they put on their home consoles are rare in quantity and sale bad.

There's one 2d platformer on wiiu? Nintendo making their own hardware gives them the freedom to have all their own release schedules for their games.

Unfortunately I do not know how nintendos financials work so I can't comment on why the gamepad is underutilized. If I had to guess I'd say that wiiu was in R&D for a long time, while wii was still considered hot. Then over time Nintendo realized that the wii was actually detrimental to the nintendo name brand. So now there's a device that was near completion with a lot of money already in the project. Scrapping the project would put nintendo out of the picture and perhaps there was a fear of the nintendo name fading into the past....anyways, wiiu does have a slightly unfocused life. Strangely enough there is a lot of core nintendo gameplay on the system.

@PurpleMan5000: They (users) can't use those controllers if the game isn't programmed for them, which my previous post (the long one) was all about. There are plenty of disadvantages from the devs side in having multiple control schemes. Especially ones that are extremely different from each other (Gamepad vs Wiimote vs Pro/GC controller). It just makes it all that much difficult. Sure there may be this or that dev that actually feels this or that scheme is best for their game, but they are the exception not the rule.

And in the end it's nothing but a needless headache for the devs as most of them don't want to limit their potential consumer base (meaning they'll feel the need to add at least another control scheme, especially for MP games). One that once again works against Ninty rather than in favour (even if in a very minimal way of course). This is obviously not a HUGE problem, but it's another drop in the pretty full glass of WiiU cons :P

This is all from a dev viewpoint mind you. From a consumer viewpoint, if you already own and/or have money to buy them, obviously it's a plus.

there will never be something wrong with options. if debs don't like something they don't have to use it. same thing with consumers. its a choice
