Official GTA4 Discussion Thread - POST HERE ONLY

This is what I had written in one of my Unions about GTA IV.

Here's the thing, we don't know which cities besides Liberty will be in GTA IV. For all we know R* could put in Libery, Vice, Los Santos, San Fiero, Las Venturas and then the main map for GTA IV which you'll be spending most your time on.
At least, thats what I'm expecting them to do.

Games are becoming huge. One city is no longer big enough, let alone one thats last gen version is only a couple of square miles. GTA IV will be massive, just like San Andreas. People will be saying "They put all that in one game?!"Bansheesdie

Did you find within SA though that there was too much countryside? I'd love if GTAIV was huge but I don't want them filling up the map with country.

The cities became smaller the more I played, yes. I thought there was too much country because there was nothing to do in it. If GTA IV has country, I say it will with 90% certainty, stuff need to be happening in it. Campers, animals, illegal races, drug smuggling, something. Then you can act differently based on the situation.

Those are all great ideas although I don't think there will be animals in the game. Animal Cruelty lobbyists went crazy when GTAIII was said to have animals in it.

I love the idea of running over campers though. Drug smuggling sounds great too. They have so many possibilites and I know Rockstar are very talented so I really can't wait for GTAIV.

I hadn't thought of animal cruelty, but if they have deer or other forest creatures that kind of stuff would be kept to a minimum. I mean, Oblivion has deer and nothing like that has come up.

lol, I know, but it sounds so fun.

I agree that one or two animals wouldn't really cause much drama. SA had birds you could kill with snipers (I didn't do that!:o Well that's not true, lol)

Birds have been in dozens of games though, those won't cause any turmoil. Animals need to be in GTA IV, just to add realism. With all of the controversy that will most likely be in GTA IV, I don't think some "animal cruelty" will be much concern for Rockstar.Bansheesdie

I want other parts of the game to be more realistic too. I'd like to bid in an auction for a house rather than walk to the front door, click L1 and purchase the house.

I agree about the animals but I don't want Rockstar getting into any trouble. Australia banned GTAIII for a while so I'd be furious if for some reason GTAIV wasn't allowed down here.

I'm still amazed whenever I see that. Not only did GTA beat one of the greatest FPSs ever, it beat a game that scored a Perfect 10 here at GS. Halo: Combat Evolved and Tony Hawk 3.

Rockstar could just make filling up your car like eating in San Andreas, its something you need to do but it doesn't constantly bug you.

The home invasion thing wasn't fully fleshed out in SA I think. Its cool at first and a good way to earn money when you're new at the game, but after you play SA a little earning money is too easy, I've had $50,000 before I did the first three missions. Stealing furniture, TVs, etc from peoples house to add to yours should be in IV, but people should be able to steal from you though if you don't have security, which you should be able to get.

Rockstar could just make filling up your car like eating in San Andreas, its something you need to do but it doesn't constantly bug you.

The home invasion thing wasn't fully fleshed out in SA I think. Its cool at first and a good way to earn money when you're new at the game, but after you play SA a little earning money is too easy, I've had $50,000 before I did the first three missions. Stealing furniture, TVs, etc from peoples house to add to yours should be in IV, but people should be able to steal from you though if you don't have security, which you should be able to get.

That sounds fantastic. I think we're both kind of asking for a lot from The Sims to be implemented into GTA.

You should be able to have roomates, who could be used for multiplayer in the game too. I don't want any of those limitations from SA in GTAIV. I'd like to have splitscreen MP without any limits. 

Halo CE got a 9.7 and is my favorite game, and I've never played Tony Hawk 3. I guess its just my fanboy, but I feel that Combat Evolved should have won. Whatever though. One reason I feel like that GTA III doesn't deserve GOTY is because I don't like GTA III for whatever reason. I blame it on the fact that I had played and beat Vice CIty mulitple times before I even picked up GTA III.Bansheesdie

THPS3 was my first PS2 game ever actually and was pretty damn fun but for obvious reasons, not deserving of the GOTY award.

I love Halo too and is the main reason I want a 360 in the future but as you can tell by my sig/ava/profile I think GTA is my favourite series which is why I was glad it got GOTY and why I'm going to be happy when GTAIV beats out Halo 3 for the award, hehe.

The co-op from SA should deffiantly not return, that was horrible stuff. Both of the players should be able to get into different vehicles, the aiming should be normal, and there should be a co-op story.Bansheesdie

Yeah, I really don't know what they were thinking with MP in SA. I can't find anything that I actually liked about it.

I like the idea of exclusive co-op missions that you can only do with 2 or more people. That could definitely be interesting. I don't really care if they don't have online play in GTAIV as long as offline MP is there.

I liked it just because I could hop in with my friend and drive around with him as the gunner and me saying "Don't shoot the cop, don't shoot the cop, don't shoot the cop. You idiot! You shot the cop!" Now I got to outrun cops as the stars keep piling up. But even that gets old and so does the co-op. Either redo it, or leave it out Rockstar.

I liked it just because I could hop in with my friend and drive around with him as the gunner and me saying "Don't shoot the cop, don't shoot the cop, don't shoot the cop. You idiot! Or driving straight into a petrol station. It's always fun seeing cars blow up.

I agree. I still don't understand the logic behind the MP in SA. My friend and I used to assume that it was "just a taste" of what is to come. That is, they make MP look terrible in SA but allow you to see the possibilities it has and then make them real in GTAIV.

I remember reading on a GTA forum once that some guys had taken the GTA3 disc, examined all the files on it and found remains of multiplayer in it that were never realized within the game. Which is why I think the SA MP was just a taste of what is to come.
