Well alot of Half-Life's appeal is the engrossing storyline, whereas Doom's storyline is more downplayed by the action. So i dont really think its fair to make those an analogy

Blizz games have always been more about unique artstyle that is designed to operate on even the lousiest machines available.

Never played DOW though, im thinking I should pick it up.

Does anyone know if it uses the Coh game machanics? i.e the destrucable cover etc. I cant bring myself to play other rts games now, as they are all about pumping out 100 tanks and rushing, or getting to the top tech then nuking etc. Coh is an absolute milestone, and the most important rts since maybe Dune.Bazfrag

Yes, it uses an upgraded version of theessence engine. So all of CoH innovations should be there its been said to be less base building than CoH.

Destructibleterrain, cover and everything else is said to be in, some may have been modified toincorporate HtH combat (I expect cover to change slightly) and all the finishing moves have beencompletelyrevamped.

I agree, in alot of rts games the only real strategy is creating as many units as possible and ordering them towards the enemy's base before they do.

no surprise there, dawn of war looks great but blizzard games never push the envelope graphically because they want to reach the largest market possible.htotheo

Starcraft is still being played today because there isn't a better Dune 2 clone on the market.

DoW and CoH have pushed the genre forward, they are trying new things.

Starcraft 2 will be starcraft in the Warcraft 3 engine. Now that isn't a bad thing, its just that I find the CoH style of fighting far more fun.

How? They are nothing the same.

Starcraft is not great for its graphics, it's good for its high level of polish, balance and faction diversity. I think that Starcraft 2 will be good for these reasons.

Dawn of War 2 will be great for its gameplay (CoH route = epic win) though Dawn of War 1 has horrible balance.

I will personally enjoy Dawn of War 2 more, but I cannot call myself a RTS gamer if I miss out on either of these titles.

With Dawn of War 1, they patch it and patch it and finally get it balanced then release an expansion that screws it all up again. Then they patch patch patch and just about when they get it right again they release another expansion. It drives me crazy! :)

I would still buy SC2 because,

1. I can run it on my abysmal laptop

2. It's Blizzard!

3. It's not all about graphics....people will never learn.
