OMG, why did Resistance 2 get any shooter nomination at all.

I played resistance 2 on my friend's PS3 for six hours straight, and at the end I seriously thought about going over to IGN, Gamespot and beating their editors with a chair for nominating this game for awards.

Its a decent enough game but nothing makes it stand out. Standard two weapon switch took out the best mechanic for the first game-the weapon wheel. The online co-op is surprisingly bland. lets not even talk about worthiness for nominations. R2 fans, sorry to break your heart, but I understand why this game is a big hit on a platform that has been starved for shooters.

But honestly, this game over Gears 2 for shooter of the year nominations??! wtf is going on.

maybe because you like xbox360 more? or hate the ps3......

R2's gameplay was on par with Geow2

R2 was visually on par with Geow2 (consdering its larger areas)

R2's online is way better than Geow2 (this might have given the edge on which one to nominate)

Personally i think both games had to be nominated since I enjoyed both titles...

R2's camaign is convulted, i think most people whos played both games would agree that gears 2 campaign had the edge.

R2's gameplay is worse than R1, why limit the amount of weapon usage to 2 when weapons are the best then about R2

R2's visuals are worse than gears, its definitely polished, but how long ago did we end the discussion on this topic, remember when killowned got owned really badly for his R2 > Gears 2 graphics threads?

R2's online is fun, but it was way over hyped, its passable for a decent shooter and the online community is decent but the only recent it got the nomination for multiplayer is because of the lack of more quality titles for the PS3 base.

lol Ok TC, let me hit you with some knowledge. Everything you stated in your post is nothing but absolute opinion. No matter what I say to counter it, you will just reply with more opinion, so there really is no point trying to convince you. The way I see it, you sound like a X360 fanboy who is just pissed off that the game industry didnt think Gears 2 was all that great. But anyways, since you'll still probably whine and complain this will be pointless but I'll tell you where Resistance 2 is better than gears2

Online in Resistance 2 is better than in Gears2. Like you said about gears2 singleplayer r, most people will tell you that Resistance 2 multiplayer is better than Gears2. It has so much more going for it. Great Skirmish mode, your standard Deathmath, Team Deathmatch modes, your capture the flag modes, all with unnoticable lag (something Gears2 lacks) even on 60 player matches. The Coop mode is innovative and new to the FPS genre and it adds alot of great teamwork and is alot of fun. Complain all you want, the fact remains that people enjoy Resistance 2's online modes.

As for single player, both Gears 2 and Resistance 2 have pretty drab single player experiences. None are really worthy of mention, but the fact remains that (and this is by general consensus) that quality of Resistance 2's multiplayer over Gears2 multiplayer is greater than the quality of Gears2 single player over Resistance 2 singleplayer. At the end of the day, we all spend time the most time playing multiplayer.. And im pretty sure the fact that Resistance 2 pushed the franchise alot further than Gears2 had an effect. Gears2 is pretty much just a prettier Gears1 while Resistance 2 got a complete revamp.

P.S. I love how people play a game for 6 hours then complain. You do realize you could have stoped playing at anytime...right?

What do you mean it overshadowed GeoW 2? It didn't sell any near as much, didn't exceed GeoW 2s review score, came well under the average review score of GeoW 2 and people stoped talking about it a short period of time after it came out. People still mention GeoW 2 all the time, espically concerning graphics. These are usually the only topics that pop up about R2 (There is a good posibility this is damage control though.) Personally I prefered R2, but it's a bit of a long shot to state that it overshadowed GeoW 2.

It would have made much more sense to say, "Resistance 2 overshadowed GeoW 2 in the Gamespot GotY 2008 nominations, because it was better." Which would have had the same effect, only would have got the point across more clearly.

In the end of the day alot of us are smart enough to either A: Use Gamefly B: Sell our Games on Ebay C: Trade them on Goozex and therefore don't need to worry about the IMO highly overated Replayability factor.

Not everyone lives in a country that gives them access to gamefly, or goozex and alot of people are young and dont have immediate access to a credit card or an ebay account. And maybe, just maybe...some people actually like to keep their games...you know...like collectors, or maybe they realize "Hey! Maybe I might want to play this game at a later time! Let me save this game!" Just throwing that out there.....

but seeing as how he is complaining about R2 nominations, it should already be taken into consideration that we are referring to websites that nominated R2 over Gears2. He obviously isn't complaining about sites that rated gears2 better so there really is no need to assume we are referring to those sites.

Sorry TC, but after playing both Resistance 2 and Gears of War 2, I came to the conclusion that Resistance is a better game. Equally fun single player, funner coop, funner multiplayer. I never thought I would come to that conclusion, since I loved the original Gears so much more than the original Resistance... but hey, what are ya gonna do?

EDIT: The one thing they did do right for Gears 2 is Horde though... very fun.

people support resistance2's multiplayer because they dont really have anything else to support other than multiplat shooters, its really average. 2-3 guns that are actually useful, huge but empty maps, false 60 player bullet point, boring game modes outside of deathmatch..there's nothing special about the multiplayer honestly. hopesfall2own
