Aite, I'll clarify my point a bit further, I was in a bit of rush with the first post.

According to metacritic, gears 2 received a 93 overall score while R2 received a 87. So based purely on scores there a huge descripency. Gears 2 is rated a AAA while R2 is a AA according to matacritic.

But when we look at nominations, R2 had more Shooter of the year nomination across the board. While Gears 2 wasnt even on any nomination list at major sites, here at GS, over @ IGN, gameinformer, EGM, etc.

So either reviewers are abandoning their own critic reviews cause otherwise their decision would be paradoxical to their official insights on the two games.

Or

game reviewer these days thought R2 was a better game from the onset, but messed up their reviews

Either way, there is a huge descrepency in the review system.

And one last point, in the real world Gears 2 was not overshadowed by R2, having much better sales. But in the gaming community, Gears 2 is overshadowed by R2's plothera of awards. In essence, whereas in the real world, Gears 2 popularity is driven by sales, the popularity of R2 in the gaming community is driven by critical awards.

So are reviewers actively pushing R2 for nominations despite their apparent opinion (based on metascore) that Gears 2 is a better game.

Uhh yeah, last I checked, reviews contributed to the Metacritics score? Did it not?

You do realize that most websites have Gears 2 in a deadlock in terms of scores, and some decided to give it higher scores than others to contribute to a higher average? Smaller websites may have your precious Glitches of War 2 nominated, with the same ones being the ones that scored it higher, but maybe not. If you complain about this stuff, then you should be lucky the majority of us aren't complaining about Fallout 3 winning GOTY when MGS4 clearly has a higher metacritic score and one reviewer contemplated giving that game an 11 on that site.

Again, I say that it's quite unfortunate you weren't able to enjoy one of the biggest and best online multiplayer this gen.

i don't know if you guys noticed, but Gears2 looks much better, but Res2 seems to be more widely appreciated as a well-made sequel...

either way i've yet to play both so...

I played resistance 2 on my friend's PS3 for six hours straight, and at the end I seriously thought about going over to IGN, Gamespot and beating their editors with a chair for nominating this game for awards.

Its a decent enough game but nothing makes it stand out. Standard two weapon switch took out the best mechanic for the first game-the weapon wheel. The online co-op is surprisingly bland. lets not even talk about worthiness for nominations. R2 fans, sorry to break your heart, but I understand why this game is a big hit on a platform that has been starved for shooters.

But honestly, this game over Gears 2 for shooter of the year nominations??! wtf is going on.

your basing this opinion on a few hours of gameplay? when i played Resistance 2 for the first 6 hours, i was not into it, mainly because i was somewhat biased about the game due to being spoiled by a year of COD4 online and multiple playthroughs of MGS4.

However, as i got engrossed into R2's story and gameplay, i realized the inner masterpiece of the game. I now cannot get enough of the outstanding online and co-op functionality.

A game is supposed to GROW on its OWNER. You cant get the best of what a game can offer via a playthrough at a friend's house.

My advice: Buy a PS3, buy this game, and watch it grow on you.

BTW, arent you the guy that said Uncharted 2's graphics are a rip-off of Gears 2?
