OMG, why did Resistance 2 get any shooter nomination at all.

Sorry TC, but after playing both Resistance 2 and Gears of War 2, I came to the conclusion that Resistance is a better game. Equally fun single player, funner coop, funner multiplayer. I never thought I would come to that conclusion, since I loved the original Gears so much more than the original Resistance... but hey, what are ya gonna do?

EDIT: The one thing they did do right for Gears 2 is Horde though... very fun.

If you play it for single player...it sucks The story is boring The Main Character nathan is so unlikeable...and so are the rest of the sentinals The ending will make you feel nothing The boss fights SUCK....hella scripted The gunplay is solid at best The AI is rather cheap as it'll avoid everyone else and point directly at you...especially the zombies Now the Multiplayer on the other hand is awesome...Very well done...and the 8 player coop is a blast :D Resistance 2 was IMO the best competitivve MP game of 2008....and yes Gears of War 2 sucked at competitive MP ..because gears of war was always only average for competitive MP :Pjg4xchamp

At least you teammates actually DO something. I just wish they would give you more of the story upfront rather than make you search every nook and crannie for the intel, THEN have to buy all the merchandise.

people support resistance2's multiplayer because they dont really have anything else to support other than multiplat shooters, its really average. 2-3 guns that are actually useful, huge but empty maps, false 60 player bullet point, boring game modes outside of deathmatch..there's nothing special about the multiplayer honestly. hopesfall2own

That's not really the same as saying, "Resistance 2 overshadowed GeoW 2". The only time this has actually been the case is in the 2008 Gamespot GotY nominations. It would have made much more sense to say, "Resistance 2 overshadowed GeoW 2 in the Gamespot GotY 2008 nominations, because it was better." Which would have had the same effect, only would have got the point across more clearly.

And IGN! But they don't count. Anyway, it should have been obvious that that was what I meant.

Even if it seems obvious to you there is a barrier that exists between you and other users on an internet forum. It's a good idea to try and get above that barrier as much as possible, otherwise people are going to have problems understanding what you are trying to say, espically if they are not used to the language (That dosn't include me.). I just saying you should make things as obvious and clear as possible if you want to put a point across. I had a general idea as to what you were saying, but I don't want to have to make assumptions if I'm not 100% sure about something. That allways ends badly.

I'd like Gears and R 2 a hell of a lot more than LBP, personally. And MGS4 and GTA4 are equal in System Wars, a minor fraction of the overall site, but Gamespot preferred MGS4 to give it the GOTY award. But since scores matter more than anything else, they are indeed officially equal.Floppy_Jim

I've played so many shooters over the many years, so LBP does more for me. They don't make enough mascot character-driven games and platformer games anymore, so it's like heaven when we get something decent-good in that genre, and every once in a while we get something truly brilliant (SMG, Braid). Shooters are a dime a dozen, though. Kinda sad, because it was once my favorite genre.

R2's camaign is convulted, i think most people whos played both games would agree that gears 2 campaign had the edge.

R2's gameplay is worse than R1, why limit the amount of weapon usage to 2 when weapons are the best then about R2

R2's visuals are worse than gears, its definitely polished, but how long ago did we end the discussion on this topic, remember when killowned got owned really badly for his R2 > Gears 2 graphics threads?

R2's online is fun, but it was way over hyped, its passable for a decent shooter and the online community is decent but the only recent it got the nomination for multiplayer is because of the lack of more quality titles for the PS3 base.

I just finished Res2's campaign and I wasn't impressed. It was fun, but why oh why do you take out the Weapon Wheel when the weapons are the highlight of the game? :?

Doing so made the campaign feel so scripted:

• Hey....here's a LAARK....I bet there's a Titan nearby
• Hey....here's a Fareye....I bet there going to be some enemies in the distance for me to snipe
• Hey....here's a ROSSMORE....I bet I'm about to get rushed by some Grims

REs2's graphics aren't on par with Gears2 graphics, but they still look good.

LOL unique thats a good one dude. The game is RE4 with Killswitch. Theres nothing unique about it. Its just another TPS. I give gears the SP just cause it has some sort of character devlopment. While R2 didint really have none. In hte end both the SP were just ok. I like your opinion on gears 2 being graphics king. I still say it looks like gears 1 with just a touch up here and there.

Aite, I'll clarify my point a bit further, I was in a bit of rush with the first post.

According to metacritic, gears 2 received a 93 overall score while R2 received a 87. So based purely on scores there a huge descripency. Gears 2 is rated a AAA while R2 is a AA according to matacritic.

But when we look at nominations, R2 had more Shooter of the year nomination across the board. While Gears 2 wasnt even on any nomination list at major sites, here at GS, over @ IGN, gameinformer, EGM, etc.

So either reviewers are abandoning their own critic reviews cause otherwise their decision would be paradoxical to their official insights on the two games.

Or

game reviewer these days thought R2 was a better game from the onset, but messed up their reviews

Either way, there is a huge descrepency in the review system.

And one last point, in the real world Gears 2 was not overshadowed by R2, having much better sales. But in the gaming community, Gears 2 is overshadowed by R2's plothera of awards. In essence, whereas in the real world, Gears 2 popularity is driven by sales, the popularity of R2 in the gaming community is driven by critical awards.

So are reviewers actively pushing R2 for nominations despite their apparent opinion (based on metascore) that Gears 2 is a better game.
