Did anyone see how well Crysis was performing on their rig?

A Core 2 Duo

2 Gigs or ram (I think)

And a 8800 GT

It was running on High to Very High (No medium) at a steady 30 FPS......

This makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside knowing Crysis will run nicely on my comp:)......

Good point because I have heard that even 8800GTX are having problems. I HIGHLY doubt that it does not dip below 30. Other tech forums are showing people with 3.6+ OC quad core's and 8800 GTX's getting lower framerates at resolutions above 1280 by 768. SLI SHOULD show modest gains but that is disabled for the DEMO.

it wasnt a demo build...it was the final, retail version of the game they were playing.

Open ended sand box gameplay, the best physics ever seen in a video game, insanely destructible environments, awesome suit powers, cool multiplayer, epic fights against intelligent solidiers involiving lot's of vehicles like tanks and helicopters, epic fights against aliens, general badassery like throwing soldiers through sheds and jumping 50 feet through the air, and, of course the Nuke gun.

Any questions?

I get average 24fps, and it drops to 18.xx is intense firefights. This is with high shaders, high everything except medium shadows. post proc and water. I did add in sunrays and motion blur to the medium sets in post proc though.

Well obviously he is comfortable with the way it is running. Why the hell would someone lie about the performance they are getting? they usually complain but not lie.

Not to sound like I am being all down on Crysis but from what I am hearing it deserves GOTY for things that we have come to expect from FPSs? I mean, having good physics and smart AI is kinda well... expected now isn't it? In so far as "epic" battles go that is like saying C&C3 should when GOTY becuse it is a RTS. I mean, the Rainbow 6 series doesn't have "epic" battles but the gun play is top notch. Just seems like more run of the mill with pretty graphics to me.

Don't know about you man, if you do have a 640meg one too than I feel sorry for you cause you should be getting better frames. I have 320 meg. I get 45-50fps when nothing is heppening and 31-39fps during gun fights and major explosions. Only time it ever drops below 30 is when the guy in the beginning hanging from a tree gets vaporized. I'm playing on the 1240x1080 res

Halo 3 does nothing new either, from what I hear is that it does what a shooter is supposed to do well. What Crysis does though is not just only have these insane physics and gameplay elemnts but it at the same time just drops you on an island and say PLAY!...not walks you through the game. That is what made bioshock suck, the entire game was so linear that it made me angry.

I never really mentioned specific games for GOTY when I posted and I certainly think neither Bioshock nor Halo 3 should get the gold, though I can site reasons they would be in the running over Crysis. Your statement about Halo 3 is just wrong, like have you even played the game or tryed any of the features? For Forge alone I would give it a serious nod for GOTY. Bioshock blends an atmosphere and story together better than anything this year, or maybe even ever. Nevermind the freedom it gives you to accomplish things the way you see fit.

For games with an intricate story ala Bioshock you can't just drop them into the city and say PLAY! It needs some amount of structure, otherwise it would be like telling a reader to open the book to a random page and start reading, and every ten pages have them close the book and do it again.

forge is nothing new at all...the crysis sandbox editor is decades ahead in power....

and bioshock....well bioshock is bassiclly identicle to system shock 2....except its been towned down for casual gamers....bioshock doesnt give you any actual freedom...you might get the illusion of freedom at first....but actual freedom is being able to approach any situation in any way like you can in crysis.

Ah what? Your telling me we are seeing something in a video game now that we wouldn't otherwise see until at least 2028? As far as Forge goes nothing has ever been seen like it in the console market, nothing else can be said about it after that, it is the first of its kind for consoles. Therefor it broke ground. Just to reiterate one more time though, Halo 3 isn't in my opinion worthy of GOTY. Crysis having an editor that is better than games before it is again expected.

Bioshock isn't identical to System Shock 2 because System Shock 2 has a completely different story and setting. It is like saying The Tale of Two Cities is like X-Men #64 becauseboth areprinted on paper.

Maybe I am expecting to much from games? Maybe the advancement in Crysis's technology and game mechanics are revolutionary. I sure hope not though, cause the way I see it Crysis is just Doom with todays video game know how applied to its face.

Go check the "On the spot" Crysis part on gamespot. A lot of amazing gameplay in there and it just gets better.

Umm dude, I have the game. Never found dropping weapons and vehicles around while trying to kill people fun at all. In-fact there is nothing special about forge. The map editor of Crysis is more impressive. I love shooters man, but halo 3 was linear too...not as much as bioshock. This was ok for some games back than....half life 2 was pretty linear as well...but that is really what Crysis does well and how it gets seperated away from the other shooters. The single player is by far stronger in Crysis so far judging from the demo, more options and ways to play. The multiplayer will probably be debatable for ever and I don't care to jump into that debate.

Is there a brain desease going around that makes people think that when a game has good graphics it automatically can not have good gameplay? Crysis has both.

[QUOTE="donny666"]Not to sound like I am being all down on Crysis but from what I am hearing it deserves GOTY for things that we have come to expect from FPSs? I mean, having good physics and smart AI is kinda well... expected now isn't it? In so far as "epic" battles go that is like saying C&C3 should when GOTY becuse it is a RTS. I mean, the Rainbow 6 series doesn't have "epic" battles but the gun play is top notch. Just seems like more run of the mill with pretty graphics to me.donny666

When talking about GOTY you must take all aspects of the genre from every system.. The Forge is nothign new and has existed asearly as Doom for the PC. The only thing remotely new and interesting they have added to the game is the 4 person co-op mode for the single player campaign.

Bioshock blends an atmosphere and story together better than anything this year, or maybe even ever. Nevermind the freedom it gives you to accomplish things the way you see fit.

Never mind the bogus decision making which never relaly made a difference? It changed gameplay in no way and only differed by giving you a different 25 second PREDICTABLE ending. The story telling and atmosphere was great but this game was clearly dumbed down and I most definitly would say due to consoles.. RPG elements? There is none, you can do eveyrthing and anything on the word go, there are entirelly too few gene tonics and plasmids.. And there are even fewer good ones fromt hat list.. In the end most the time you will be using the exact same plasmids and genetonics through each playtrhough nor is there erally any big decision makign in the game.

For games with an intricate story ala Bioshock you can't just drop them into the city and say PLAY! It needs some amount of structure, otherwise it would be like telling a reader to open the book to a random page and start reading, and every ten pages have them close the book and do it again.

Apparently it needs the objective arrow too, I am sorry but Bioshock has been dumbed down.. Linearity is one thing but making the game able to be played bya 8 year old easilly is another thing.. Not knocking the game I like it alot but it could have been so much better.. Hopefully mods will fix this on the PC.

The hilarious thing is the hypocritical nature of these statements.. I see more graphic whoring arguments between console fan boys then I ever do for pc gamers.

Seriously, how many CoD4 PS3 vs. 360 graphics comparison threads have we seen in the past two days alone, like 80? Besides, I've also seen plenty of praising of Crysis' gameplay.

I play it @ 1280x1024 resolution with Objects, Textures, Shaders and Water @ High detail and Postprocessing, Shadows and Volumetric lights @ Medium detail @ a steady 35-40 frames, sometimes it drops to 25 but only very briefly. It looks pretty amazing and runs good enough for me, i dont have DX10 so i cant run it at very high though:(, thats why im planning to upgrade to the HD 3800 series.

You people aren't listening to me. Forge is a new feature for the Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sego Genisis, Playstation, Nintendo 64, Neo-Geo, Gamecube, Playstation 2, Dreamcast, Xbox, Xbox 360, Wii and Playstation 3. If we are talking about the PC game of the year then sure whatever. If we are talking about the GOTY than Forge in it's application on consoles can not be ignored as ground breaking, like Halo 3 or not that is a fact. And for the guy talking about picking things up and what have you that is just the means to the end. What is the end? Again, the first real map editor for CONSOLES. Again, for consoles, not the PC butconsoles. I feel I should say the word "console" 3,434 more times just to get it to stick in your minds for the duration of this post, but for fear of the mod stick I will abstain.

And then there is the playback feature, outside of third party applications that has never been done on the PC or otherwise. Another huge factor is how well it did. Again no one can claim more sales than Halo 3.

None of these things are my point though as again I don't think Halo 3 should get GOTY. My point is Crysis shouldn't either. For points already mentioned by myself and others. It is even restrictive to its target group. My computer (R.I.P) could play most games I looked at but would have been absolutely buried by the reqs on Crysis, that alone should say "not GOTY material".

[QUOTE="jethrovegas"]Crysis = GOTYdonny666

Outside of it's graphical awesomeness what does Crysis offer again that gives it a shot at GOTY?

Um, maybe gameplay. ****, I played it at lousy framerates and still thought the gameplay was pretty good.

Thread's about how much more optimized the retail version seems than the demo, and that chart shows demo benchmarks.

Your eloquent post has inspired me to respond in kind.

Um, maybe not. ****, framerates would and do directly impact gameplay. To say it was lousy only to tout the gameplay as still good as a result is only fanboyism.

What it doesn't show is what version of drivers it is running. The new 169.04 drivers run the game much better. You people do realize that the game is not OUT actually yet right? right? Those charts have to be old, cause if not I am running the game better than a GTX is with my GTS...now that doesn't make any sense now does it? Believe the benchmarks once the game is out and everyone is running a driver that is not a beta driver.
