[QUOTE="Rocker6"][QUOTE="Ravensmash"] Cloud gaming is the future and should be pushed. I'd love it were it to get up to a better standard than at present. Anyway, it looks like this all a bunch of rumours - OnLive saying to numerous sites that they are NOT closing. and Michael Pachter tweeted this just now: "Michael Pachter: The OnLive story seems odd to me. I know them pretty well, and financing not an issue. It must be a changed strategy to an all IP model"Ravensmash
Is a future where you don't own anything at all really the future you want for yourself as the consumer?
Is a future where a client going out of bussiness permanently cuts away access to all of your "games" what you want?
Then there are risks of hacking,no user-made content like mods, huge potential issues for people with slower or unstable Internet connection such as myself,etc...
No,cloud gaming is not the future,it's a hot topic today, but I don't see it ever turning into something serious. If it does, that'll be my cue to find another hobby...
There'll always be a solid number of people supporting the traditional retail model...
What do I 'own' on Steam? I'm still paying for a license to access the content and it's still locked down by DRM. Heck, if I get banned from Steam then Valve can quite happily lock me out of any purchases made on their store (wasn't this actually highlighted in a recent TOU update?). I completely understand why people have objections, but let's not pretend that other online stores are a beacon of freedom and consumer rights here. You download and run the games locally, you can back them up on external drives/discs in case Steam goes down, you don't need permanent and fast Internet connection, and game files are accessible, which allows for user modding...
No,DD stores have their share of DRM and limitations, but they're nowhere as bad as the concept of cloud gaming...
Also, being banned from Steam for reasons like cheating allows you to play your owned SP games:
