We know that feeling: the one where you sit down, wait for a new game to finish downloading and installing, start it for the first time, and want it to rock. The intro sucks you in, you press a button to shoot, jump, or talk for the first time, and then it's suddenly three a.m. We know that feeling, and the one afterwards of knowing that not only does a game rock, but that it was worth every dollar you spent on it.

We hope every game you play on Origin will meet this high bar, and we're happy to say that starting today, we can guarantee that we'll make things right if you decide the game you just bought didnt live up to your expectations.

The new Origin Great Game Guarantee works like this: You may return EA full game downloads (PC or Mac) purchased on Origin for a full refund--within 24 hours after you first launch the game, within seven days from when you purchased it, or within the first seven days after the game's release date if you pre-ordered it (whichever of these conditions happens first).

If something doesn't work outyou arent riveted by the storyline, or sucked in by the action, or even just if the game doesn't play well with your video cardweve got your back.

Requesting a refund is quick and easy. Just visit your order history and click the request a refund link next to your recent purchase, answer a few quick questions, and well take it from there.

For more details, you can check out the full Origin Great Game Guarantee policy details posted on Origin.com. The Origin Great Game Guarantee is effective as of today in 20 countries. Like the improved Origin Store, we are rolling out the program worldwide over the next few weeks, and everyone will be covered by the Origin Great Game Guarantee by the end of September.

What do you think? Wed welcome your feedback in the comments below.

 EA

This is actually an incredible move, and one of the first genuinely good things EA has done with Origin on their own; it looks like between this and the Origin Bundle, EA really does want Origin to be taken seriously. I'd be glad to take it seriously if they continue making moves like these.
Your move, Valve.

I mean it makes sense, unless the person can finish the whole game in one day.  If they were going to pirate it they would just get a pirated copy, rather than downloading it, copying the files, cracking it, then returning the game

Indeed. Digital sales act or something. Up to 7 days from the date of purchase we can return any item bought online for a full refund. That includes digital items.

This is the second time in as many weeks, I'm getting worried now.

Valve legally has to allow it in the UK, though from what I understand, it's still a complicated process and nothing as elegant as this.

What I want is the ability to trade-in at any time. If Steam did that, my god, the amount my library would decrease.

This is a good first step though, and by EA no less.

Slashkice
Yeah; they're growing surprisingly nice with Origin lately. Wonder what is up there.

It's a good idea, but the problem is that the "I'm only trying it because there's no demo" crowd will just fabricate another justification.

I'm surprised, apparently (I may be wrong and if I am, please just tell me instead of jumping down my throat, PC gamers*), consoles have more demos for games than PCs these days. *Comment not aimed at you, Clyde :P

EU regulations allow customers to return items bought online within a period of 7 days, but that didn't include digital items, so this is a really pleasant surprise.

I remember getting demo discs with OPM, you don't get that now. I remember at the start of the 360 era that almost every game had a demo, then publishers started to hold back demo's till games released because they feared poor sales. Now we very rarely get demo's. Its once in a blue moon on the PC.

That is awesome. It's for EA published games right away but it's still a great step in the right direction. Seems that EA is really working on fixing up their brand.

Wait wait wait wait wait. You can pre order a game, play it for 6 days (easily enough time to beat a game like Tomb Raider), return it and come out paying no money? It can't be that easy or it will be abused like crazy.

I'm sure there will be some system to regulate this. They'll probably have a record of your playtime, how far did you get and so on. And you'll most likely have to provide a really good reason.

Only if you live in UK. I'm not sure about the US, but you can't return digital content in EU countries.

Really? Then why won't Steam do it?

Steam is probably obligated to as well, but they are likely skirting the line and playing the legalese very well.

Basically you hate EA and assume that them doing anything good is a legal obligation? Really, if it was based on it being a legal obligation and there was a way to skirt around it, wouldn't you think EA would be the one skirting around it rather than Valve?
