[QUOTE="Vinegar_Strokes"]motel art at best-The-G-Man-

never played SOTC? or Okami?

I could say the same thing for any other form of media. But it'd be ignorant.

maybe games will get there somebody, but those are only two examples (and I'd say Okami is only there for visual style) out of few enough to be counted on one hand.

Your wrong, simple as that :P.

It wouldn't make a difference to me. I played Halo because I loved the gameplay, co-op, and multiplayer. The story was nice, but if the gameplay wasn't there I couldn't care less. I stand by the belief games absolutely do not need stories, because gameplay is the underlying foundation of this medium. If you need a story to push you to finish, then I would say that means the game isn't worth playing.

Just because something is a game doesn't mean it shouldn't tell a story, hell in my opinion video games are the best platform to tell a story because they are interactive. Due to the interactive nature of a video game you can get so much more immersion and developement between characters and depth that is not possible in a passive medium like movies or books and the ability to make the story play out differently and allow the user to make choices and decisions that affect how the story plays out and how it affects the characters is something too awesome and impactful to miss out on.

Just saying, I don't think Uncharted 2 would have won as many Game of the Year Awards that it did if it wasn't for the Story.

And if its gameplay wasn't there, it wouldn't have gotten one of those awards. Stories can spice the game up, but they are not the most important factor, nor necessary. They're called video games, because we interact with them. If that wasn't the case, they'd be no different than movies, and that is why I answer the TC's question with a "no."

Yes we do. Stories and character personality are important in some games. Such as yakzua dang the story and characters in that series are good.

Need? No. Look at Mario, or Pac Man. But I like stories in games. I really don't think they are all that bad. Are we talking Shakespeare quality? No, but Arkham Asylum, Uncharted 2, ODST, Deus Ex, Ico, are game stories I liked. It made me want to play through to find out more.

I don't care for it. In my opinion games should strive to be games before they strive to do anything else. That's just me.
