If Pachter says so, I expect the next gen to start next year.nethernova
I honostly think we should make a SW rule no more using Pachter or videogamechartz as a source of information...
[QUOTE="PAL360"]So eager to plunk down another 400 bucks for a new console? Not me. I'm inclined to disagree with you. PC tech has come a loooong way since 2005. The capabilities consoles will have will be extremely high...2015 is too long :|
As much as im loving this gen, i want next gen consoles like 2012/2013.
Bread_or_Decide
Imagine an average game typically looking like that running at 1080p. More will probably end up easily looking better as games mature.

Why not? Insteed of getting 2 or 3 consoles of the same generation that share 95% of their games, i prefer to wait a bit more and get a new console from a new gen.
SP says 2014... who ya gonna believe ? :P
Though I'd prefer MS launchthe.... Monster Box... Nov. 2012 !!
Pachter in his new show at Gametrailers says that the next successor of the 360/PS3 won't arrive until at least 2013 (most likely 2015).I don't know how much more the developers can push these consoles for another 4-5 years, because I see them peeking in the next 1-2 years. I could be wrong since I don't know much about their technical aspects but 2015 even 2013 seems really long because PCs are already so far ahead of the consoles in terms of power. So do you guys want this gen to last this long?

i think guy follows my posts and copies from me sometimes. i said before. i think natal and move will help the life of 360 and ps3 while forcing a wii hd in 2011 and that lasting 4 years. untill all 3 are ready for their next gen systems. As many times as Pachter has been wrong, I find it odd that I'm inclined to believe him here.
MS and Sony debuting their motion tech seems like they're trying to delay the start of the next gen and breathe new life into their aging but established consoles. Honestly, I'm all for it. My wallet will certainly be thankful. :P
If nintendo launches a new system, you can bet the rest will follow the suit.nintendo-4lifeLOL... Well I dunno all about that. Nintendo has done so well with the Wii sales-wise I dunno if they care to move on anytime soon until sales start slumping which is god-knows-when.

Actually.. if they fail that would probably ensure a new generation of consoles to come sooner than if they're successful. 2013 sounds like the perfect time for a new console I think, and I also think if Natal is successful and Move is not that Sony will be the first out the gate this time.As many times as Pachter has been wrong, I find it odd that I'm inclined to believe him here.

I just don't see it as a selling point this late in the game. There might be a Wii 2 with HD capabilities, but no Wii-HD. All that is, is speculation that was massively hyped up by Pachter, nothing more.
lol, just last year he was saying the new consoles would be announced by 2011 and released by 2012. Sure, I'll believe him this time......he has to get it right eventually............I mean so far he has guess from 2011 through 2015. May as well just say before 2020 that way he covers all his bases. How does this guy have a job?darthogreif you had watched the segment you would see the reason to why he changed his mind. The announcement of Project Natal and Playstation Move is the reason why. Pachter is saying that console additions like that might give the opportunity to console companies to hold off the next generation just by adding mroe and more features to their current console.
Pachter is right. There is simply no incentive for Sony/MS to release a new console. Sony is still trying to recoup the losses that the PS3 brought the company. Each PS3 still loses Sony money, a new console would be even worse. MS is still selling a ton of consoles every month which (I believe) actually make MS money. Until the competition is truly pumping out next gen graphics, MS is in a fine position to ride the Xbox 360 as long as it can.
EDIT: Also, a large install base is profitable cause MS/Sony get a cut of whatever games are sold on their systems. A new generation would abolish that.
On a personal note, I have no desire to spend another 600-800$ upgrading my consoles.
I can't see the current generation consoles lasting past 2012 or 2013 at the latest.
I know Sony will try to make their 10 year mark with the PS3, but the PS4 will have to be out a lot sooner than 2016.
Microsoft is going to have to do something about their disc size before 2015 for sure. It's not that DVD9 is bad, but when your direct competitor has a media format that holds almost 5 times the amount of storage it is only a matter of time until your games start looking bad in comparison. So either a new format, use Blu-ray, or bigger cheaper hard drives. Right now it is no big deal, but a year or so down the road it is going to make a difference.
wii hd 2012

I don't think Sony is going to give M$ a 2 year head start.
Yes!! i dont want any new consoles to come out. i wouldnt mind a new psp but ps4 hopefully by 2014/15
Agreed. Sure it's just one person's opinion, but I hope what he says is right. Not only has this generation been rather expensive but I think you need more than one console this time round in order to fully enjoy it, making things even more expensive :P. Anyway, I sincerely hope that the next generation of console is in the distant future.I hope so the way the economy is going i dont want to buy another 400 dollars console in the next 2 years

Wow I can't believe people are still misunderstanding Sony's Ten year plan. Sony doesn't RELEASE new consoles every ten years, they SUPPORT it for ten years. The PS4 will be out way before 2016. ;)I can't see the current generation consoles lasting past 2012 or 2013 at the latest.

New Xbox = November 2012. There is no way Microsoft would wait more than 7 years to kick off another Generation.KittenWishesonly reason they started so soon this time. was because they took losses on each xbox sold and it wasnt getting very good support from japan devs. this gen they got great 3rd party support and they make a good profit off each system sold. and they are selling alot each month still. after natal launch it will be like a new launch for them and sale might double each month. if it catches on
The new consoles, from Microsoft and Sony at the least, are not coming for a while yet.
How many times do these companies have to say they are looking at a 10 year lifespan for their current-gen consoles before it registers...

Both MS and Sony are still taking a cut in profit on each console, so they arent making money on selling the console. They are making money only on the games, accesories, and fees.
When thinking on console lifespans, I've considered the following.
Considering the significant amount of support consoles require from the 1st party this generation, when the 1st party moves their focus to the next generation; how long will the previous generation consoles survive? The PS2 survived so long because of its unparalleled 3rd party support; and as we know 3rd party exclusivity has diminished greatly this generation. So when Sony/Microsoft turns their focus to encouraging PS4/Xbox3 adoption, will the previous generation consoles be able to meet their product life cycle expectations?
But to counter that...
When the 1st party brings new consoles to the market, will the 3rd party transfer? The 3rd party want to put off the next generation as long as possible, development costs are already high; and they will be even higher next generation. The 1st party are of course going to want the 3rd party to transfer over to the next generation, as they are unable to fill out a consoles line-up just by themselves and the developers they pay. But the 3rd party will likely be reluctant...
Why potentially double your development costs on unknown hardware with a tiny install base? You already have a platform with a install base in the 10s of millions and you know how to work with it.

Yes. Duhh! We don't need to have upgraded graphics for devs to be CREATIVE. There no time in between 4-5 years of new system, new system... to make more games! If next gen consoles are actually only released in 2015,the PC´s advantage will be ovewrwhelming by then.
That's assuming the tech in consoles stays the same.[QUOTE="BURSTIIIFIRE"]

What are you thinking?!:ook when did I ever mention graphics in my post? I said power which could mean lots of things...like huge levels with a lot of things happening simultaneously, better draw distances, more AIs on screen etc. There is a reason why the consoles can't handle Crysis and that is not just because of it's graphics but also the huge sand box enviorment it's set in. So next time read what I wrote before you start bashing.
PC's are not only for video games. PC's competitors are Mac's. Unless there is some revolution in making video games quicker that still retains their "power" qualities then consoles don't have to upgrade. As far as I'm concerned a video game with huge levels, lots of things happening simultaneously, better draw distances, more AI's on screen are up to the developer. They're limit is only what the consoles can handle. It just happens that there is no game out that wanted to use these qualities for their game. And if they did, this takes time. If it takes more than 2 years to dev a shooter game you're pushing it. You're looking for a Crysis game on a console. PC's should stick to communication and RTS. PC FPS's are more fun then console FPS's? Pfft.ok when did I ever mention graphics in my post? I said power which could mean lots of things...like huge levels with a lot of things happening simultaneously, better draw distances, more AIs on screen etc. There is a reason why the consoles can't handle Crysis and that is not just because of it's graphics but also the huge sand box enviorment it's set in. What a load of crap. Its not a load of crap, the 360 has nearly a 50% KIA ratios with pre 2008 manufacture dates, and the warranties are out on those. Plus MS doesnot cover all problems with the 360 only a select few. And both companies dont make any money the "console" itself. Sony takes almost a $100 cut with the slim and the 360 and MS. Its only on the games, accesories, and fees are where they make their money on their systems.
