it will give Direct x 11 time to grow and by then Dx 12 will be out. 04dcarraher
Indeed.

If next gen consoles are actually only released in 2015,the PC´s advantage will be ovewrwhelming by then.

That's assuming the tech in consoles stays the same.

They will stay the same until the new ones come out they.

ok when did I ever mention graphics in my post? I said power which could mean lots of things...like huge levels with a lot of things happening simultaneously, better draw distances, more AIs on screen etc. There is a reason why the consoles can't handle Crysis and that is not just because of it's graphics but also the huge sand box enviorment it's set in. So next time read what I wrote before you start bashing.

LOXO7

PC's are not only for video games. PC's competitors are Mac's. Unless there is some revolution in making video games quicker that still retains their "power" qualities then consoles don't have to upgrade. As far as I'm concerned a video game with huge levels, lots of things happening simultaneously, better draw distances, more AI's on screen are up to the developer. They're limit is only what the consoles can handle. It just happens that there is no game out that wanted to use these qualities for their game. And if they did, this takes time. If it takes more than 2 years to dev a shooter game you're pushing it. You're looking for a Crysis game on a console. PC's should stick to communication and RTS. PC FPS's are more fun then console FPS's? Pfft.

umm...yes PC FPSs are always better than the ones on consoles. So what you are saying is that if a dev wanted to, they can make Crysis on the consoles?

[QUOTE="Mystic-G"][QUOTE="nintendo-4life"][QUOTE="Mystic-G"] All they did was downgrade from godly profit to legendary profit.

which they will still go down until they can be called "slumping". I did not say we will see a console this year or the next. But I think 2012 is a definite possibility. Once Nintendo starts the new generation, Sony and MS will have a hard time following with outdated technology, they will need to upgrade.

Nintendo needs to come up with a new idea though which is a whole lot harder than a PS4 or 720. I think next gen is gonna be a whole lot harder for Nintendo because they gotta create a whole new idea that will sell.

That doesn't matter, because as i've said, Nintendo will be the first to start the next generation. PS4 and X720 won't be out by then. For a short while the new Nintendo console will be competing against the PS3 and 360, which aren't that much of a competition really. Sony and MS will be forced to released their new consoles in order to maintain their market share. I've never once said Nintendo will win next gen, I just said that if they were the ones to start it, the others will have to follow.

Pachter is wrong a lot of times...Jamani
And yet the current state of the economy (which isn't likely to heal itself for at least another 5 years) lends some credibility to his argument.

Nintendo starting is merely speculation, nothing more. Sony and Microsoft have more reason to push forward than Nintendo. As long as Sony and MS make their consoles backwards compatible with the PS3 and 360 along with the Natal/Move then they'll be fine with their investments.

I don't think the counsels are far enough behind the PC for the average gamer to notice. If you had them side by side I'm sure everyone would know the PC looks better, but it's just not drastic enough. I think waiting a few years more seems entirely plausible.

I think the big three will all be launching consoles at the same time. Sony won't let Microsoft get a years head start like this generation, it cost them too much.

Nintendo doesn't need a new console right now, the Wii is still selling like hotcakes. For those saying it's starting to lose steam, no it isn't. It just isn't breaking the records like it used to. Unlike Microsoft or Sony, Nintendo is in the perfect position if they want to drop the price or bundle. Don't they make $100 off each Wii sold? Perfect position. Besides, launching a console way before the competition can have devasting affects. When the new consoles come out, yours instantly feels dated.

Personally, I don't want new consoles right now. I'm content with the graphics AND am willing to suffer a few years with outdated technology if it means the tech is cheaper next gen. I want $200-300 consoles at launch next gen, none of this $400-600 crap. Plus, we just got into the sweet spot of this generation where we are getting great games constantly and quickly.

If Nintendo is going to launch a new handheld this year (as the rumors suggest), I'd be all for it.

I don't really care when the next gen comes out. I am not going to wait in line for an overpriced glorified prototype only to get left out in the cold due to shortages again, just so that I can play a boring new FPS and a glossied up buggy port of a sports game. I'll probably wait a few months before buying a console next gen, and for now I am perfectly happy with PS3 and I think that it's got tons of untapped potential still. Xbox 360 does, as well. The only company I can see bailing on this gen any time soon would be Nintendo, because the motion control gimmick won't be exclusive to them anymore and they're going to need to up the graphical ante. Even that is hardly a sure thing, though, and I wouldn't be surprised if Wii is around for just as long as the PS3 and 360.

I agree with him. It still feels like the beginning of this gen to me. It's not all about technical specs anyway. Bring on the good games. :)

Consoles don't need to keep up with PCs, they can't do that worth a flip anyway. If you want the latest cutting edge tech, get a gaming PC. Between super high development costs and a still struggling worldwide economy, their is absolutely no choice for the console manufacturers but to extend the life of the current consoles beyond initial expectations. A new more powerful console with even higher development costs, a new learning curve, and a tiny installed base would simply not get any bloody support. It wouldn't be worth the investment.

Still doubt it... Nintendo sales are far from low for them to move on. They're gonna ride this investment into the ground which is a smart business decision. IDK your idea of slumping but that's not what Nintendo sales are anywhere near yet. For them to end their Wii sales prematurely is idiotic especially considering their next console might not fair as well at all.

Okay before I begin I have to say you have one kickass sig :P okay moving on. Sales for Wii were strongest in 2008. 2009 was incredible of course, but it showed that Wii is beginning to lose steam, 2010 is also following the suit. That's why I think sales will continue to deteriorate until they can be called "slumping" by 2011-2012... I know Wii is still making a hell of a lot of money, but it's just not doing it as well as two years ago. Furthermore, DS proved to us that Nintendo won't wait till the sales are "bad" for them to release a new console, "lower than expected" is enough for that move.
