I think the big three will all be launching consoles at the same time. Sony won't let Microsoft get a years head start like this generation, it cost them too much.
Nintendo doesn't need a new console right now, the Wii is still selling like hotcakes. For those saying it's starting to lose steam, no it isn't. It just isn't breaking the records like it used to. Unlike Microsoft or Sony, Nintendo is in the perfect position if they want to drop the price or bundle. Don't they make $100 off each Wii sold? Perfect position. Besides, launching a console way before the competition can have devasting affects. When the new consoles come out, yours instantly feels dated.
Personally, I don't want new consoles right now. I'm content with the graphics AND am willing to suffer a few years with outdated technology if it means the tech is cheaper next gen. I want $200-300 consoles at launch next gen, none of this $400-600 crap. Plus, we just got into the sweet spot of this generation where we are getting great games constantly and quickly.
If Nintendo is going to launch a new handheld this year (as the rumors suggest), I'd be all for it.
